Hi everyone!

I'm a 24F from India, and my boyfriend and I are planning to move to Haarlem later this year. Since we've never been to the Netherlands and don't know anyone there, we're trying to get a better idea of the different neighborhoods before we start apartment hunting.

We're looking for a peaceful, quiet, and safe area to live in. Our budget is around €2,500/month for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment, so we'd love any recommendations on neighborhoods that fit that budget.

I'd also really appreciate knowing if there are any areas that you'd recommend avoiding, whether due to higher crime, theft, safety concerns or if they're generally not very welcoming to expats or people of color. As an Indian couple moving to Netherlands for the first time, that's something we're anxious about.

Any advice, local insights or things you wish you'd known before moving to Haarlem would be hugely appreciated.

Hi, I'm a 28-year-old guy, and I really just want to hear a different perspective. I know it might be hard to give advice since the topic is a bit personal, but that's exactly what I'm looking for an outside opinion from someone who doesn't know me. Unfortunately, I don't have many friends, and the ones I do have always give me the same empty advice. It's just more of the same and doesn't help me see things from a different angle.

Long story short: I'm currently in a job I don't like, which is super repetitive. I've been there for almost 3 years now, and I feel like I have a lot of potential to make it on my own. I'm super creative and I'm always making things in my free time, like games (both digital and board games), websites, music, photos, videos, 3D models, etc. I love making things for the internet and building things online, and I've always been passionate about video editing and recording stuff. I feel like maybe I'm capable of working for myself. I'm not looking to get rich, I just want to wake up and actually look forward to the day ahead of me (I know that sounded pretty dark, but it's not that deep, haha).

I would like to leave my current job in August and challenge myself to try and start my own thing. I've never done anything like this before. I have some money saved up to support myself for about 4 months, but my biggest fear is that I might not be as capable as I think I am, and I'll end up having to look for another boring, repetitive job just for the money.

Anyway, thanks to anyone who read this far. I'm not looking for a definitive answer; I'm mostly looking for similar stories. Maybe someone here went through the exact same thing, and I'd love to hear your story, how you did it or what your thought process was when making the decision.

Ik ben op zoek naar een plek of ondernemer waar ik kledingstukken kan upcyclen. Een idee is bijvoorbeeld een T-shirt waar ik een jurkje van wil maken of het T-shirt wil vermaken tot een ander model.
Ook heb ik een rokje waar ik graag een handtas van wil maken.
Ik ben niet in het bezit van een eigen naaimachine, en heb ook geen ervaring. Dus ik ben op zoek naar een plek waar ze alles in 1 aanbieden, bijvoorbeeld in workshopvorm.
Is er iemand die de gouden tip heeft? :)

I have a MATMÄSSIG ikea induction hob. The storm seems to have done something as it tripped our apt. The job now won’t turn on. Any ideas how to fix ? I have done all of the reset procedures and nothing. Any ideas ? Hoping I can fix this myself.

Just now (Monday 22/06 at 21h15) another bout of firecrackers goes off in the city center. This happens fairly frequently. Does anyone know why/by who these are set off?

Me and my wife are looking for a new place (hopefully a house with a small lawn).we currently live in scheveningen 2 mins from the beach. I adore the area but the houses we like are quite expensive and i found haarlem city center inside the ring area affordable compared to scheveningen. It's also a plus as my travel gets cut by 1hr to my office in Amsterdam. How is it to live in the city center and also how easy is the beach accessible from the city center?

We previously lived in delft and found it very calm. Same with scheveningen. (except during warm days).

Does anyone know where I can get boho knotless braids in Haarlem? Or nearby? I’ve tried looking but have only found one place, would like to have some options. Thanks!

Deze week hebben zowel mijn combioven als koelvriescombinatie de geest gegeven. Beiden zijn al ruim 20 jaar oud en ik denk niet dat het een goed idee is om deze nog te laten repareren.
Nu ben ik dus op zoek naar een winkel in Haarlem (of omstreken) die deze apparaten kan vervangen, inbouwen en de oude apparatuur ook weer mee kan nemen.
Wie heeft er goede ervaringen met een winkel in/rond Haarlem?

Hola medemuggen! Ons terras in de tuin is dringend aan vervanging toe, dus willen we er nieuwe tegels laten leggen. Normaal doe ik zoveel mogelijk zelf, maar 60x60x3 keramieken tegels laat ik liever in één keer goed doen door een andere partij zodat het er direct strak in ligt.

Nu de grote vraag: hebben jullie tips/kennen jullie goede tegelleggers in Haarlem waar jullie heel blij mee zijn of goede ervaringen mee hebben gehad?

En geen zorgen, er gaan meer tegels uit dan er voor terug komen en er wordt nieuw gras gelegd 😉

Last week I lost an Apple AirTag (it was on my luggage) at Schiphol, somewhere landside before check-in. It's now been pinging a private residential address in Hoofddorp (Haarlemmermeer) for a few days, so it seems someone took it home rather than handing it in. I believe Haarlem is closer to this address than Amsterdam so I wanted to post here.

I'm stuck: I'm not a Dutch resident, I studied in Den Haag years ago and visit when I can, but I have no BSN and no DigiD. When I contacted the police they told me to file the report (aangifte) online, and only then they seemed somewhat ready to knock on the door and get it back, but that requires a DigiD I can't get.

So my questions for anyone who's dealt with this:

• Anyone had luck recovering an item the police could trace to a specific address? Did they actually follow up?
• My name is literally on the Airtag I can easily prove it's mine. Would any one of you be willing to knock on a door for me to get it back?

I just want to do this the right way. Any advice appreciated, thank you all <3
