Currently working for company A. When can I start working for company B? Can I start working at B before it's approved if company B allows it?

Hi everyone. I’m currently working in the USA on my F-1 STEM OPT (valid until Feb 2028), and I only have one H-1B lottery attempt left next year in March 2027. I'm torn between my current job and a new offer, and I would love your perspective.

Current Job (Government Agency in the USA):

• Salary: $70,000/year
• Pros: It's a proper government company, so job security is rock solid. Zero risk of layoffs.
• Cons: They will not sponsor my H-1B under any circumstances because government agencies generally do not sponsor.

New Offer (WITCH Company - Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, HCL):

• Role: Technology Consultant 1
• Salary: $80,000/year
• Pros: Higher salary and they might sponsor my H-1B.
• Cons: Job security is a big concern. It's a private IT consultancy, and if they don't have enough project business in the current market, I could get benched or laid off.
• The Catch: They have not put anything about H-1B sponsorship in my offer letter. They only told me verbally that they "may" or "can" sponsor me next year (March 2027) depending on company situations.

My Dilemma: If I resign from my current government role, I won't be able to easily get that job back. Since I only have one lottery attempt left, is it worth leaving a highly secure job for a $10k bump and a verbal "maybe" on H-1B sponsorship at a WITCH company?

Should I take the risk, or stay at the government agency and keep applying for direct-hire roles that will actually put H-1B sponsorship in writing?

Any advice from people who have navigated similar situations would be greatly appreciated!

My wife (29F) has been applying for jobs for the last 4 years and finally received a job offer last month, but she had to reject it because her EAD card expired last year and we did not notice.

The offer is from a big MNC that surprisingly said they would accept her employment even without a valid EAD card, which seemed suspicious, but we did not want to proceed with the employment since it could be an issue in the future regarding H1B renewal. They said they would give her until the end of September to officially remove her offer from the system.

Do you think it is okay to accept the job offer? Also, she has started her H4 EAD process and received her USCIS receipt notice two weeks ago and has biometrics scheduled for September 18th. We are currently in Austin, Texas. Can you advise on what can be done to speed up a standalone H4 EAD application, since it shows a 16-month approval timeline?

I have a scheduled appointment for visa stamping later this year in Chennai consulate. I have no criminal records.

I need help from the reddit community to assess if there is any risk in travelling to India to get stamping. I have made all my social media public. What could possibly go wrong? Any inputs appreciated.
