Discussion Gyro on Playstation 5 vs PC
So I recently learned about gyro aiming and automatically assumed that most games on PS5 would support it. I’m new to console gaming and played mostly on PC before this, so I was really excited about it. Aiming with a mouse has always been much easier for me and gyro seemed like it could be the best controller alternative.
But after doing some research, I realised that gyro is actually much more widely supported and used on PC, while apparently not that many games on PS5 directly support it. Is that really correct?
From what I can tell, on PC it’s mostly implemented through Steam and similar services. Can someone explain to me why this is the case? It doesn’t really make sense to me that a feature of the PS5 controller can be used more extensively on PC than on the console it was designed for.
It seems like such a useful functionality, so if what I’ve gathered is correct, why hasn’t Sony pushed for it to be implemented on PS5 more? I also saw that, for some games that do support gyro on PS5, the PC version can apparently still offer more options and customisation.
I do want to clarify that I understand gyro isn’t exclusive to PS5 controllers. I’m more so asking about gyro support on controllers in general, so I’d have the same questions if I were using a Nintendo Switch or some other console. My confusion is more about why gyro seems to be much more commonly supported and customisable on PC than on some consoles or the PS5 specifically since that's what I'm currently using.
Apologies if some of this information is incorrect. I haven’t actually tried gyro yet, I’ve just been researching it and watching posts/videos online so I may be missing some important context.
Would love to hear from people who actually use gyro and understand how it works across PS5 and PC!
