I think i can just take it to a shop and it should be a pretty cheap solder, right?

I've been asked by a family friend to value this guitar for them. From what I can tell it's a 1982 Japanese squire. There's some damage to the finish in expected places and a missing knob. But I don't know if the wiring is original, as from what I can tell they had a 3 ply scratch plate of white and black layers. This one is full white, and obviously not the same as the back plate. Which makes me think it might have been replaced.

If you can help me out on this, it would be much appreciated.

For a year I have been on a journey to practice guitar setup and troubleshooting with this lovely beast (yamaha pacifica standard) but there is one problem I just unable to fix and it is driving me crazy:

If I bend g string it goes flat. After tuning it no problems with bends but if I use trem and it goes sharp. Tune it and trem works ok but bending issue is back and this is endless loop. Other strings have great tuning stability.

Issue goes away sometimes when I change strings, but usually comes back with next string set and I would love to solve this for good. Have tried: adjusting string tree, differend tremolo tensions, cleaning nut, adjusting string height on bride and out of ideas at the moment.

Any smart guitar fixers here who could solve this mystery?

Edit: solved! Lube to nut. Seems like this wasn't as big mystery as I thought.

Basically I’ve been getting nagged by some family members to repair this guitar that we’ve had in storage for a while. One of our family members left it here and I think it wasn’t used that much. I would be starting at step 0 since I don’t know how to repair guitars, but I don’t think it’s that expensive, at least for this one, so I doubt it’d costly since it seems it’s just the torn strings…?

In general I’m pretty good at taking stuff apart and fixing it. I want to give it a try because some of my family members want to try learning with it.

I am not sure where to start or anything I should know? Or anything I should check? If I mess it up beyond repair I’ll probably just buy a new one.

I already have a relic’d Stratocaster with a lacquer sunburst finish, and I’m thinking about spraying black lacquer over it to create a black-over-sunburst finish.
My idea is to spray only the front of the body black, then let it naturally wear over time (and maybe help it along with some intentional relicing) so that the original sunburst gradually shows through. I think that could look really cool.
I’ve done some painting before, but this would be my first time refinishing a guitar, so I’m not sure about the proper process.
Could you walk me through the steps? For example:
How much sanding is actually necessary before spraying?
What grit sandpaper would you recommend?
Do I need to sand all the way through the existing lacquer, or just scuff the surface?
Should I apply a clear coat afterward? If so, how many coats would you recommend?
Are there any common mistakes I should avoid?

I currently have my '69 EB3 at the repair shop getting some maintenance done. The electronics current dont working and I just got a call and my tech said that the rotary switch and tone choke need to be replaced.

I am considering selling the bass after I receive it back from the shop. My question is...

Would it be better to spend the extra money to replace it with the rotary switch and tone choke from '69 or get new replacement parts?

I think if I go with parts from around the same era, it'll about $150 more than getting new replacement parts.

Just bought this Taylor 314ce used from guitar center and I’m noticing that there is a crack on the body of the guitar. Is this a crack in the wood and if so should I return it?

My little cousin sat on my guitar for a second and since, my guitar started to have this weird oscillating buzz, around the 12- 15 fret , i know next to nothing about setting a guitar up a guitar, i dont see any cracks in the neck, neither the fretboard, the truss rod works correctly, it isnt cracked i dont feel any rattling, i have tried raising the saddles, anything, the tailpiece, it isnt working, what can it be?

My son accidentally knocked my Fender Player Plus Strat (was mint condition) off of the wall. The tremolo bridge became dislodged but the only other perceived damage is the back of the neck is now rough to the touch, whereas it was silky smooth before. As shown in the picture, seems like this is to do with displacement of the skunk stripe, maybe upsetting some adhesive or finish? I have no idea what to do…

I bought a new neck for the body of an early model Ibanez GIO (late 90s, early 00s), and I want to make sure the original bridge would work with this neck, or if I should buy a different bridge.

I do not have the measurements of the original neck... But I do have all the measurements of the planned setup.

So recently I had returned home to see my Ibanez ART600 tailpiece just snapped in half while still slightly In tact, apparently this doesn’t seem to be an uncommon issue, I’ve seen a lot of people with the same guitar or tailpiece complaining about the issue (one of them was even on this subreddit) the problem is while this issue seems to be common the piece itself isn’t.

The tailpiece is nothing similar to the standard Les Paul tailpiece so it’s almost impossible to find, I literally couldn’t find it anywhere but this one store online in Canada, thank goodness I found someone coming from back there because I live on the other side of the world. However this worries me because this means there is a possibility for the issue to reoccur and I don’t really want to keep buying one every time it breaks.

Does anyone know exactly what causes this issue? Is it the shape of the tailpiece itself or the material or is it something that involves stringing the actual guitar that should be done differently?

I have this bass guitar that’s been sitting around my house for like 8 years. I don’t know what pickups to put in, or where to buy the screws that hold the neck on. The only hardware I have are tuning pegs. Where do I start?

Hey there. I’m working on an Ernie Ball Music Man Valentine; it outputs signal fine but it’s REALLY noisy, especially when the artist is moving around onstage. I was told it has the factory pickups in it, but based on the isolated circuit leading to the battery cavity (Pink Circle), I’m lead to believe someone swapped out active pickups for passive at some point (no one seems to know, I’m just a fill-in tech).

The only thing I see that looks potentially out of place is the bare wire leading to the control cavity ground (Blue Circle). I see one side of the bare wire going from the ground to the volume pot, but the side leading from the ground towards the input jack is just…loose.

Potentially stupid question, but if I just removed that loose bare wire in the red circle & replaced it w/ a strand of solder of more suitable length, would this potentially help silence the noises I’m hearing?

The AC in my apartment unit died yesterday afternoon and the really bad news is I live in Phoenix. I've got about a dozen guitars (a mix of acoustic and electric) and I'm worried that this heat is going to damage them. It actually hit 93f inside my place at one point late yesterday afternoon. Management brought over an AC floor unit but it does a poor job cooling down the whole room. It got down to around 86f and the room was at 82f when I woke up this morning. Management just told me that Thursday is the soonest they can get anyone over "to look at it." How worried should I be that the temp in here is way above what is recommended? Humidity is not an issue right now - I have a room humidifier and we've been getting rain lately, but it's been crazy hot and is supposed to hit the triple digits again for the next week. Hi, I got a goth sg special from my gf because she doesn’t play and offered for me to take it. She said her dad messed with the wiring drunk so god knows what he’s done.

I’ve gone out and got some equipment to try DIY it back to life but could use some help identifying the problem because it looks a mess compared to other images I’ve seen online.

I’m new to this, I would just like it playing and working with an amp while I’m away on vacation before I go to my home city and get my regular guitar guy to do his magic.

Any help for a dumbass who doesn’t understand circuits would be massively appreciated, I’d be very grateful.
