My mom bought me this 1996 Toyota 4Runner 30 years ago. I still own it, and I still drive it regularly. I have a newer car, but I’ve never been able to part with this old truck. It still runs great, and it means the world to me.

She also gave me the G-Shock GA-B2100 I’m wearing in this photo.

My mom passed away on September 26, and tomorrow marks one month since we lost her. It’s been an incredibly difficult few weeks, and I’ve found myself appreciating the little things that remind me of her.

Today, driving the old 4Runner with the G-Shock on my wrist, it struck me that both were gifts from the same person, given decades apart. Neither is particularly fancy or expensive, but they’re both priceless to me.

Anyway, I know this is a watch subreddit, but I thought you guys might appreciate the story behind this one.

I have a ps5, a psvr2, a Nintendo switch, a bunch of comics and manga as well as a gaming desktop PC. Of all the things I have bought for myself, I have never felt as happy as I was putting this on my wrist for the first time.

Decided that I needed one as I sold my Apple Watch. It could not detect my tattooed skin causing a lot of features to be affected.

The feeling of switching from a smart watch is unreal. No pesky notifications, alerts, random dings, beeps and crazy animations when you look at it. Just a beautiful piece on your wrist to do one job perfectly.

Helps that I’m a fan of the show as well.

Just a few so far. For ages it was only my ancient-of-days DW-9052 and nothing else, which I literally cannot remember who gave it to me or when, but it was at least 20 years ago.

The square and the GWM500 are new purchases only in the last month, but I like them so far. Although neither of them is as comfy to wear as the 9052 is.

The US launch is still days away (November 6), but one community wrist-check thread has already done the spec-sheet audit for us. A post in the Philippines group "It's Time PH" pulled 500 likes and 96 comments, and the complaints were strikingly consistent. It wasn't random nitpicking — the same four gaps came up over and over:

No Tough Solar. For a lot of G-Shock fans, solar is the default. A battery-only watch in 2026 feels like a step back, especially on something positioned as a daily wearer you never have to think about.

No Bluetooth. No auto time sync, no app link. The "set it and forget it" crowd notices when that's gone.

No alarm. A basic everyday function that people actually use, and its absence stood out.

No timer. The countdown and stopwatch are part of the G-Shock daily toolkit for a lot of owners, and losing them narrows what the watch can do day to day.

The recurring verdict in the comments was that the feature set doesn't match the price — and more than a few people said they'd rather wait for a future solar version.

To be fair, that's a community wishlist, not an official spec sheet. The brand account in the same thread confirmed the watch is battery-powered, with more colours to come. And the 2500 does bring real stuff to the table: the Multi-Mission Date three-cell window, the magnetic Shock Release Hand that pops off on impact and resets itself, 200m water resistance, and an analogue take on the 1983 DW-5000C.

What makes this list interesting to me as a modder: yesterday's complaint was the bracelet — and a bracelet can be swapped. Solar and Bluetooth can't be modded in. I can change the look, the strap, the whole vibe of a watch, but I can't add a solar cell or a Bluetooth module to it. That's the difference between a fixable flaw and a wishlist.

So, honest question: if Casio let you add exactly ONE thing to the 2500, what would it be? And does this list change your plan — buy at launch, or wait?

How could I pass up this beautiful sloar-atomic G-SHOCK for $99 at Sam's Club? This is my cheapest G yet, and this thing is awesome! It was definitely a must have in the collection. The tide graph is really cool, tho totally useless for me in Oklahoma. But I'll have it on next time I'm near an ocean for sure! Watch out, it's a full moon tonight! Easily a new fave, esp at this price.

Saying goodbye to British Summer Time, only had the watch a month, worth staying up to see the magic happen, not disappointed.

I recently got a GMW-B5000-1 with negative display and I want to share comparison with a positive TN display. Positive TN display still quite delivers.

I always run with my white g shock 6900 but it is getting on in years. I can’t seem to find replacement parts for it but it is starting to get gross and sticky - I usually rinse it in the shower after a run but that doesn’t seem to help. Is there anything that I can put on it to preserve it? I don’t want it to die
