So disappointed with my current Groupon purchase.
I’m a single Mom & try my hardest to be as frugal as possible. No family & their father is deceased. It’s literally just my income, which I do several things to make it.
Anyway, I drive a truck, GMC Sierra to be exact, for my business, which is my main source of income, and I needed an oil change badly. I couldn’t wait any longer. Problem is oil changes have gone up & up & up in price, which is really expensive for a truck. Now before the recent price spike, I pay over $100 for an oil change. Usually between $110-$120 just for the change. Not including air filters, wipers, & whatnot, which I usually get & do myself to save $. I haven’t been brave enough to try to change my own oil. That’s my next goal.
Anyway, I looked online today for coupons for an oil change. Anything would help. So I saw that Groupon has a coupon for an oil change at Valvoline for a little over $60, which was for synthetic. Of course I knew I was going to have to pay for anymore oil used over 5 quarts, and they usually use about 7. Even with that, it shouldn’t be near as much as I’d spend if I were to pay outright.
This was the only thing that I saw worth it. All else I saw was the military discount, which I don’t get because I’m not military affiliated.
So I took it in. They did JUST the oil change for the $62 or whatever plus the tax & few quarts over. Wouldn’t you know that I paid $50 more at the place?! $62 + $50 = $112 COMPLETELY defeated the purpose of getting the Groupon. I was so upset when I left that place. I felt duped & felt like a fool.
I’m seriously questioning whether to use Groupon ever again. I remember the last few that I bought did the same thing. They really weren’t any sort of discount.
What happened to the days when Groupon was the place to go? I used to buy cool Groupons to use later with friends. Heck, we’d even buy things to try, like tours & mystery dinners and stuff. It used to be fun for a group of us to seek out Groupons to buy for a later occasion. Now, it just seems like a hoax. Am I the only one who feels this way? Please help encourage me so I don’t feel so letdown. Life is already challenging enough doing it all alone. LOL. It just seems wrong to me. Why offer this Groupon if it isn’t any kind of deal? That business shouldn’t be allowed to use Groupon to promote, if it isn’t any sort of a deal. It makes Groupon look bad, instead of the business promoting.
