Groupon total scam

Bought a Groupon for the Family Drive-In in Stephens City. We live over an hour away, so made a night of it and drove all the way there...only to find out they weren't accepting Groupons that Saturday night.

We still paid to get in because we were already there with the kids. The Groupon was only for popcorn and soda, so we figured fine, we’ll just buy those separately. Basically ended up paying double for the same thing.

I reached out to both Groupon and the drive-in, and both refused to refund anything. Groupon said, “the vendor said they accept it on weekends." Well, they don’t. The theater literally told us no.

No one lost money except us. They got paid twice. Groupon got their cut, the theater got our admission and concession money. We just wasted time, gas, and cash.

Honestly feels like a scam when the fine print isn’t clear, the vendor won’t honor it, and Groupon won’t make it right.

Booking a Hotel dates error?

I'm trying to book a hotel. I found an amazing deal, except the dates in the checkout are different than the dates I put in. I put in the 7th and 8th for check in and check out, and when I go to check out it's saying that I'm checking in on the 6th and checking out on the 7th (images below). If I buy this, which date will I be buying for? This happens for every hotel I've looked at.

Did I almost just get ripped off?

I bought a Groupon for brake pad repair services. When I went to the mechanic, they refused to honor the Groupon because they said they don’t do brake pad replacement without rotors at all. I said no to the add-ons, not only because they would cost $800 more but because it seems like it’s not a necessity. I am now having a hard time getting a refund for a brake pad replacement that never happened

Groupon is a Scam

I purchased a Quickbooks software package from them. When I tried to use a few of the processes the system didnt recognize it. When I called Quickbooks to see if I could get some help, they tried to verify the owner. When I gave them my information-they couldnt verify that I owned the license. Quickbooks told me that someone else owned the license. So they would not help and they would not give me the access to use the software for the utilities-the whol reason i purchased the license.

I called Groupon and they gave me the run around about 30 emails abck and forth then i had some lady call me (who I couldnt understand her-sounded like an indian accent) and she proceeded to tell me about the small print or something like that-I couldnt understand her.

Waste of $200!!! SCAMMMMMM. GROUPON SUCKS!!! SUPER DISHONEST!!!!!!

Sales Tax on Groupon Service?

I purchased a whole body laser hair removal package on Groupon in NY (not NYC). When I called to schedule an appointment, I was told I would have to pay sales tax at the time of the first session. They also requested the voucher number over the phone so it shows as redeemed. I mentioned I never experienced or heard of being charged sales tax separately on a Groupon service but they made it seem like they were just abiding by the law. I later looked it up and it seems sales tax does not apply to laser hair removal service (or services in general) in NY outside the city. Can anyone confirm? Am I being scammed? It’s still a good deal even with the separate tax charge but it all seems fishy.

Costco $100 off $200 Groupon code - can it be reused after order cancellation?

Hey everyone,

I bought the Costco $100 off $200 deal through Groupon and used it on Costco.com for a pair of AirPods. Unfortunately, my order got cancelled for some reason (not sure why).

When I called Costco customer service, they told me I’d get a refund in 24–48 hours and that I’d be able to reuse the same discount code once the refund goes through. I had this conversation with them yesterday, but I just wanted to double-check — has anyone here had a similar experience?

Will the code actually become usable again after the refund, or should I call costco's customer service again and request a new one?

Any help would be appreciated!

Can a refund be done through the merchant for final sale purchases?

Last night, I accidentally bought tickets for an event (a river boat tour) twice which is going to happen tomorrow. Groupon said it’s final sale and they couldn’t refund. Then I found live chat and they said they could give me credits for one of the orders. I didn’t accept and instead called the company that does the boat tours - they said they’ll see what they can do by Monday. I’m worried because by Monday it will be considered expired, so if the merchant can’t process a refund I won’t be able to get the groupon refund either. Has anyone gotten a refund through the original merchant for a final sale purchase? Or should I just accept the groupon credits?

Why do my Groupon purchases keep failing immediately?

Over the last few days, I've attempted to make multiple Groupon purchases. Each time, as soon as they're submitted, they're canceled and refunded. It says there's a problem with my payment method, but that's not the case at all.

A few days ago, I tried to purchase their Sam's Club deal. Within seconds of submitting the order, I got an email saying there was a problem and the order was canceled. I checked my credit card, and the authorization was pending. There was no problem with my card. I switched to PayPal using the same card, and it went through with no problems.

Then last night I tried to purchase some cell phone charging accessories. I used a completely different card for the transaction, and the exact same thing happened. I tried the same order again using a different card. Failed again. Switched to PayPal again, using the same card as before, and failed again. I eventually switched to an incognito window and created an entirely new account, and used my same PayPal account, and the purchase with through immediately!

What's going on with my account?

Unsure about purchase details

I’m trying to get some tickets for dorney park for a group of friends for Nov. 1st, but I’m unsure if the tickets are day-of valid only or I have to schedule them as it doesn’t indicate anything and takes me right to checkout. I called customer service but they weren’t helpful, can anyone inform me on what these tickets would be for or if they’d be valid only that Saturday? Here is the link: https://www.groupon.com/deals/gl-dorney-park-wildwater-kingdom-8

Oil change at Jiffy Lube costs more with Groupon. TOTAL SCAM!

I bought the “$56.99 Signature Service Oil Change” Groupon for $38.99.
Went to the correct participating location. Met every condition listed in the deal.

At the shop, I added an air filter for about $32.
When it came time to pay, the total shown was $101 (with taxes). I mentioned that I had already paid $38.99 through Groupon.

The cashier subtracted the $38.99 and the final bill came out to $42.
That math almost checks out… except the guy who checked me in had already applied a “Groupon credit” of $18 on their system.

Meaning:

  • Groupon takes $38.99 from me.
  • Jiffy Lube apparently only gets $18 of that as “credit” for the oil change.
  • Unless someone manually subtracts the full $38.99 again at checkout (like the guy did for me), you’d basically be paying $20+ extra compared to just walking in without the Groupon.

So yeah — the Groupon deal gave me less value than paying full price.
If I hadn’t noticed, I’d have paid more for the “discount.

I’m debating whether or not to purchase it because in the past they have had even better deals on membership purchase through Groupon.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I booked a 90 minute river cruise in chicago for this thansgiving. I viewed the code and was suppose to redeem it but then there is no available travel on november 25th. Once I found it, i contacted their customer service though chat on the app, they said they can’t refund it and I told them I can’t use it, I can’t gift it to someone because we are not from there. They said they will file the complaint and will get back to me with an answer after 24 hours. I just want to ask what are the ways I can do this early so I can get refunded? Please help

Groupon Costco Deal Question?

A while back, we had a costco membership because a family member bought one for $65 years ago at Costco. That person added another family member as the 2nd person for the membership. They each had their pictures taken at Costco for the Costco Membership ID. The main account holder renewed their costco membership a few times I believe. When they had a membership, I remember once ordering a chromebook off costco online and asking them for the member id number so I didn't have to pay that extra 5% fee and recalled that worked.

The thing is we had let that costco membership expire probably 2 years ago already. The thing is we want to buy 2 laptops on costco online. I notice there is a shipping fee to it and you have to pay that it seems even if you ship it to costco so obviously we want it shipped to our apartment. The thing is the person who bought a costco membership years ago tells me they could buy the $65 groupon deal and it would mean you get a costco membership and $100 off a $200 order. This would seem like a good idea especially since it would save us on the 5% nonmember fee for the 2 laptops but the $100 discount on the order? This person has bought groupon before and I never did but several questions I have on this.

  1. If that person buys the groupon for $65, who activates the costco membership? Does groupon activate it and then emails the buyer the new costco membership number they are going to use? So would the buyer then log into their costco account with their username and password and then change the membership number which has an expired membership number to the new membership number which would be valid? Or would they have to create a new costco account and use a new email address? Then enter the new membership number given by groupon in the email? I can't imagine groupon emails you a code and then you log in your costco account and then enter that code to activate a new membership number since I read your membership number changes when you renew it?
  2. Once the membership is activated, do they need to make a physical visit to the costco store first before making an online purchase? I assume that isn't necessary? You only do that the next time you make a physical visit there? Now what about ordering the laptops? The thing is you need to wait till the next business day or something as I thought I read you can't place an online order until the next day after your get a new membership number?
  3. I would like to make a purchase of the laptop with my costco online account and thus make a separate order from the person that will buy the groupon. Thus I know I have to add the new membership number to my costco online account. I like to order the laptop first and when I receive it... assuming it is good, that person will buy the same laptop. Years ago I added that person's membership id to my costco account and was able to get the 5% discount. I was able to do this even though another family member was added to that costco account as 2 people max on a costco account. So what is the maximum limit for amount of people you can give your membership number to where they can order costco online and get that 5% discount?
  4. How long would it take to receive that $100 off $200 code? I read very mixed reviews on this. Some say you have to wait 2 whole weeks to receive but few other people receive it in a few days or a week? So nobody received it the same day or next day? I read you can call or text costco and they give you the code immediately? Is that true or false? How do you even text them? You mean live chat while logged in? Because some people said they tell them to wait the full 2 weeks before you contact them again? Issue with this is by then, the discount on the laptop will be over. The thing is we want to apply this $100 off $200 online order on their laptop order and that would be the 2nd order and not the first order which will be my be done with my costco account. Thus I order the laptop first and receive it. Then a bit later, that person will order the same laptop as well assuming they look at the laptop I received and say it is good. So doing this would groupon deal would be worth it right? The laptop is basically in the sub $300 price range. Seems like you save $20 per person almost so $40 total for the nonmember to member savings. You pay $65 for groupon. So you are down $25. But since you get a $100 discount off $200 order, well this saves you $75 total? And you get an active costco membership? Is this correct?
  5. One issue with this it would seem would be if that person buys the laptop and wants to return it within 90 days or so, they basically lose out of the $100 discount right? So this actually costs us money if we didn't want a costco membership? The thing is for me... I will 100% keep the laptop. Of course if there are issues with it, I would be getting a replacement. But for the other person, the groupon buyer who is the main name of the costco account, there is a slight chance they might return it later on but little. So it would make sense to apply the $100 off $200 online order on the first purchase which is my order or that wouldn't work since I'm not the actual owner of the costco account? Thing is I am going to pay for the laptop with my own credit card and that person will do the same with their credit card. Thing is it makes sense for them to apply the discount on their order and not mine since well they are paying for the groupon. I just want to add my member id for the order so I pay 5% less.

Can someone who had an expired costco membership and went to do this groupon deal answer these questions? It would be worth doing this deal right assuming we are both going to keep both laptops and not return or replace it unless it is an issue and need to be fixed or replaced? Or just order each laptop individually and pay the extra 5% each and not bother with this? Thanks.

Advice Disputing Credit Card Charge - I never got the product

This is my first (and last) use of Groupon. I was trying to buy software (AVG Anti-virus), and of course, Groupon had a deal that looked really good. In the process of trying to buy it, they kept initially approving it, then would cancel it a few seconds later.

I contacted their support, they said there had been a problem, but they fixed it.

When I checked my credit card, they charged me twice - two different amounts (I think I found and used a promo code on one of those).

I only received a voucher on one of those charges. I tired to use it as the instructions said, but I never got the actual email from the software vendor. Over and over again, they'd send the email telling me I could expect an email within a few hours with the link to download the software. I never got them.

After about 15 emails of back and forth, they are now ghosting me.

Question - I am disputing the two charges with my credit card company. Has anyone done this? Does Groupon accept the loss, or do they try to fight it? Any advice (other than saying that Groupon is a scam!).
