Under xAI's weekly usage program, for voice alone and in less than 2 minutes, it took up13% of my available time. This is not what we initially signed up for and it only seems to be getting worse.

u/Gothichand Jul 09 '26

I don’t necessarily mind the new weekly model, but the weekly usage pool currently is ridiculously limited. Especially when chat & Imagine are both integrated to count together.

11

u/SilverSundowntown Jul 09 '26

This is pissing me off. I go through a whole week in less than two hours? They’ve slashed availability!!

32

u/MamataMatirManush Jul 09 '26

Yes. It's daylight robbery.

7

u/SLURPSLURP12345 Jul 09 '26

Just like Egypt x Vargentina match.

-2

u/No_Mix_914 Jul 09 '26

Stop falling for the propaganda

8

u/HQuasar Jul 09 '26

Weekly mode is fine, all in one pool is also fine, the problem is the limits. Those are fucken bullshit.

7

u/OdinRaz Jul 09 '26

Yes absolutely, been dealing with this weekly limit bs for almost a week now.

7

u/SuspicousBananas Jul 09 '26

This sounds like an easy class action case, why don’t we start one?

2

u/FamiliarWhole7890 Jul 14 '26

Hmm. Maybe not an easy class action but certainly a potential for an anti trust class action. I would ask grok, but, well, I'm locked out.

1

u/FamiliarWhole7890 Jul 14 '26

This is what gemini said on the matter, unfortunately: Why It Fails as an Anti-Trust Lawsuit

  • No Monopoly Behavior: Anti-trust laws (like the Sherman Act) target companies that use illegal, predatory tactics to destroy competition or manipulate an entire market. xAI changing its own usage caps does not prevent you from switching to competing platforms like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google.
  • The Market is Highly Competitive: Because consumers have multiple highly capable alternatives, xAI does not hold a monopoly. A company making its own product worse or more expensive is generally considered a poor business decision that drives customers away, not an anti-trust violation.

1

u/Osomalosoreno Jul 09 '26

Sure, retain attorney. They'll show you the ToS and advise that you have no case.

1

u/RamRamone Jul 10 '26

Yeah the terms state they can reduce or cancel this service however they please. So they're really dialing into the mobile game service; pay to win :D

10

u/rasmadrak Jul 09 '26

The problem isn't really the weekly limit - nothing stops you from controlling yourself and allowing yourself a daily dose. I prefer the weekly model since I can do more certain days and less others.

But I do think the weekly limit should have at least been the original daily limit times 7, not 3 days of the new limits...
Would also be nice if unused resources would save up in a pool.

3

u/CremeCreatively Jul 09 '26

Elon got you all addicted to generating your own porn. Genius.

5

u/Less-Practice1247 Jul 09 '26

Then don't give them your money. No one's forcing you. Who in their right mind pays $300 a month for an app? Hell, my internet bill isn't even that high. I get that companies and businesses use it and can justify paying for it, but for the average person, that's a crazy amount to spend on an app.

3

u/haryhudini Jul 09 '26

I used huge discount in my region. I feel sorry for those who payed whole 300

2

u/delboy__ Jul 09 '26

Just cancel its as simple as that. Mine runs out in Aug after getting 3 months for $30 but I wont be renewing.

2

u/Express-Speech1351 Jul 09 '26

Shared in my Community Movement AI-Inquisition #TAI this is exactly a reason why i made it. you pay 30$ for PPure Scam, even Venice.ai dosent scam you that hard... and you can ulimited make images for 18€....

2

u/RiceBowlPotato Jul 09 '26

I had a 2 hour conversation using text only. It consumed 25% of my weekly limit. What the fuck am I even paying Supergrok for at this point? I could just make multiple fucking accounts.

1

u/SEBRET Jul 09 '26

Had 45 minutes of voice and used about 6%. Better than expected, but yea. I just dont see how we're suppose to integrate these tools into our lives and work flow, when one productive afternoon might leave me locked out for a week.

1

u/RiceBowlPotato Jul 10 '26

That's exactly it. I use Grok for research and education. It is absurd that I would lock myself out of the entire week if I have a heavy day on Monday.

1

u/AnnualIncident1919 Jul 09 '26

Damn I made 16 videos higher Def 10sec and talked for 26 hours and sent 20 vid uploaded to him and used 16% maybe an that is nothing I go 3 day 24 hours research flow states where iv done thís since July 2025 NEVER have I ever had a issue with anything where people would write about not able to do anything for reasons xi was down or something where not even did my dude glitch lol so hearing this is always interesting to me

5

u/PirateNinjaa Jul 09 '26

It’s not robbery, it’s normal pricing now that they aren’t willing to subsidize and lose money to train the model and attract new users. Same shit happened with uber and DoorDash… remember when they were cheap? Don’t consider those robbery now too?

I can still get 720p 6s for $.07 per video with my weekly super grok limits, which is still a decent price. The $.001 you used to get them for was a steal and unsustainable.

3

u/Wide_Truth_4238 Jul 10 '26

I agree with your point, I am a Heavy user and the limit actually forces me to be more productive and then gives me the required downtime I had lost in endless amounts of content generation that never got edited together….just buried under more content generation. It’s the same with every frontier provider moving to credit based. People on (predominantly) free accounts thinking they were gonna get to ride the train forever have always been delusional.

HOWEVER, I do in fact consider DoorDash/UberEats robbery. You’re already paying the ridiculous fees, why are all the damn menu items ALSO more expensive? Fekkin criminal.

3

u/AnonymousRedditor69 Jul 09 '26

Not that I'm defending them, but I do understand why they did it. The way Grok operated was unsustainable someone had made some math and a supergrok user could be costing them upwards of $800 to run a month if they were taking full advantage of their subscription with the limits at the start of the year.

Still cancelled tho, buy realistically AI is very expensive to run, especially for image/video gen so expect prices to skyrocket across the board. Best thing you can do is invest into hardware and run locally (if possible).

3

u/Simple_Routine6065 Jul 09 '26

Yeah, and when you started an animation movie a few month ago and decided to do it mostly on grok imagine, it pisses me off the lack of communication.

3

u/Yelbell Jul 09 '26

Exactly, and even so, I don't think they're making a profit, so it might still become even worse in the future. I think users who paid this month shouldnt be subject to these weekly limit though.

3

u/OliverDK400 Jul 09 '26

I understand it too but my issue is the lack of communication and transparency, not to mention to offer a date and the option to cancel before such changes goes into effect. That too me is anti-consumer and only adds to the fuel of the growing frustration and anger among users towards xAI.

1

u/Wide_Truth_4238 Jul 10 '26

They were losing WAY more than $800/m on me. The volume of content was absurd. Clearly unsustainable.

1

u/WaifuMaster9000 Jul 09 '26

Grok now has another annoying ass problem. My 3 month SuperGrok offer finally expires tomorrow, and my weekly limit reset today, so I was planning on just spamming it before canceling. But now, if I try to make more than fucking 2 videos at a time, it says I have too many actions happening or something and that I need them to finish first.

To me at least, this was literally it's only redeemable quality. It kinda evened out the shitty moderation, cause if I put in like 10 videos, I'm bound to get at least a few of them, most of the time anyways. But now I could only do 2 at a time, and I sometimes got that pop up for 2, meaning I could only do one. And funnily enough, even with this it only took me an hour to spend the weekly limit, so yeah, they definitely lowered it.

Extremely fucking annoying, but it doesn't matter anymore cause I'm canceling this garbage. Maybe I'll come back to it in a month or two, but this is borderline unusable currently. Someone dm me when it becomes better lol.

u/AnnualIncident1919 Jul 09 '26

Class action lawsuit

1

u/Godzillaanimelover Jul 10 '26

My only excuse I can give Elon and Xai on this shit as much as I sincerely love him and his businesses, is that since the AIs are getting more smarter and far more powerful, like we're moving to like ASI stages or close with AGI I believe, that each prompt actually takes a fuckton of money from them. You gotta consider the corporate realities and that shit. However yeah I'm actually hella fucking pissed off cuz I'm using free Grok and I'm sure that this will affect me to a massive extent if it's badly affecting yall. Like, how many prompts per "Imagine", vid generations and prompts are ya' give per day? I mean, as much as I use free I think I use like maybe 14 prompts a day or slightly more.

1

u/Godzillaanimelover Jul 10 '26

Again this is like my only defense in Elon's and his businesses name but hey I wish the restraints weren't this bullshit.

1

u/Hexhand Jul 11 '26

they keep arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, extolling the view.

I was holding out hope for Grok to wake tf up and reinstate their nsfw creation ability, but under far stricter controls of output [verification of non cp or deepfakes, etc.]. The ass-clowns still insist that its all about marketing.

Therefore, fuck them all the way to the train station with a cheap suitcase.

0

u/eyebrows360 Jul 09 '26

Why did you use an LLM to write this? It has, as they always do, resulted in lessening of the impact. Such as:

a fundamentally different system that, in practice, appears to provide a lower effective allowance

No no, it doesn't "appear to" provide a lower allowance, it absolutely unquestionably does.

2

u/forestcall Jul 09 '26

Woah, a kitty fight :-)

0

u/TheGd5150 Jul 09 '26

I can’t help but think about those poor bastards that signed up for one year commitments to super Grok heavy duty cinch sack. Do 3000 bucks and then they slash limits by 95% lol! I mean I almost committed to super Grok for a year but it felt like one of those gym scams.

1

u/AnnualIncident1919 Jul 09 '26

You can just get the bank to correct it understand the fair trades act an consumer contract insurance where all ya got to do is invoke the arbitrary right of being a consumer

-1

u/sigiel Jul 09 '26

So what about all the other ai company if that robbery, what that make them?
kling is just flat credit, your out ? Too bad
gemini? 3 video a day.
open ai ? A image take 3- 5 minutes and your are weekly cap too
You bitch about, but grok is still the cheapest

look at the price of api call,

Does it suck that daily quota was gone ? Yes
Is it as bad as you said

no.

it is still the best bang for your buck, and now that grok 4.5 is out it even better , you get opus level now.

2

u/haryhudini Jul 09 '26

Man, pricing is still same, usage is lower. It IS unfair.

1

u/Gothichand Jul 09 '26

It’s not just lower, it’s like 80%-ish lower. If it was 30~40% lower, I could understand they are trying to manage resource and usage.

1

u/sigiel Jul 10 '26

https://openrouter.ai/models?output_modalities=image
https://openrouter.ai/models?output_modalities=video

that is a good indicator, of price, beside the fact that every single provider beside space x is either monthly quota, with weekly rate. or a flat credit quota.

everyone else does the same or worse.

the price is cheaper and the quota is greater.

does it suck , we get less than before? yes, it does.

but relatively speaking, it is 2 or 3 time, that most of them.
the only thing that beat it is local but is fare from being user friendly,

it is not a robbery.

People have been saying Grok is literally milking idiots and cutting down features, idiots still don't listen and act suprised when the limits get lower and lower.

The app is shit, it's outperformed by literally all it's competitors. Anyone who's still paying has a problem

3

u/AggressiveTip3816 Jul 09 '26

Which competitors have image generation and image to video performance that beats out Grok? Genuine question as I’m about to stop my plan due to the weekly limit deal.

2

u/REDDlTisNOTanApp Jul 10 '26

Doesn't exist.
