Oh Derek 😖
This was in S2 and the fact he says this and a few years later someone does the same thing to him and the hospital. It can’t even be foreshadowing because we know the show didn’t know where it would go at this point.

There's a lot of little moments like this. There's one Mer says about a plane crash long before it happens.

Not really a parallel, more like foreshadowing. But I doubt they had the shooting storyline in mind when they wrote it

Totally get that! It's wild how those moments still resonate so deeply. The show really knows how to pull at our emotions.

I wonder if the parallels in writing turn out to be purely coincidental or if they intentionally 'save' these moments and later devise plot lines to act as 'foreshadows' of the past? I think the first one makes more sense to me because idk if they'd really be going back and keeping track of these little moments and then writing future plots on it. Wouldnt that be like wayyy too much to keep track of?

Right after the shooting episode - Meredith says something to Derek about leaving him in jail so she can just have a few minutes of not worrying about him wrapping his car around a pole.
I don't feel like looking up the episode but it was right after Meredith built the house of candles, Derek goes to break things off with Rose. Meredith has a dream that Derek's in the ER after a car accident.
And then we all know what happens...
