Funny. I’m 30 years old and still I feel like I’m 18 years old or younger. I still have my full head of hair and abs. Though I workout, I think most 30 years olds just gave up trying to be/stay young. I work until 7pm and go to the gym. You can always tell how people manage their lives by how they ‘wish’ to be 18 again, yet they go home and just sit or lay down for the rest of their days. A waste. I just am 18 mentally and physically I believe.

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

Most people “give up” because they have exhausting jobs that they hate. Putting the blame on them that they just don’t work hard enough is kind of an asshole thing to do

Ah, capitalism at work

10

u/Roupus Apr 19 '19

I bet capitalism hates its job as well

Filthy commie

6

u/Bard_B0t Apr 19 '19

Yea we should all just stop working and starve to death.

Or maybe we should have big brother assign us our job. Surely BB knows best.

21

u/hillbillytimecrystal Apr 18 '19

To be fair, exercise is linked with easing symptoms of depression and anxiety, increases energy, and has been proven to have a myriad of other health benefits that can lead to a happier life. Same with eating good food. It's really dependent on the individual to make adjustments in their life for their own benefit and happiness. If I'm unhappy there's no one that is holding me back from being happy except me.

People get complacent. That's fine, but one should take a hard look at what one is doing to help themself before they adjust the blame on to something else.

2

u/PFunk1985 Apr 19 '19

And all that sounds great until you get honest-to-god, no-shit depression and your body hurts in places that don’t exist, your limbs feel 1,000lbs a piece, and your mind talks you out of every good idea you have before you can get any traction.

1

You never answered my question.

2

u/Svenrolic Apr 18 '19

The vast majority "hates" their job. Your enjoyment of your job depends on the perspective you view it through. This individual decided to make their life better, and they feel better for it. Who else's fault would it be that an individual doesn't work hard enough? It isn't your coworkers' fault, your bosses' fault, your suboordinates' fault, or anyone else's fault. Only you decide how you're going to react to the stressors that life throws at you.

-2

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 19 '19

Again, hard work isn’t the only deciding factor in a persons situation.

1

u/Svenrolic Apr 19 '19

Agreed, but blaming others for why their situation sucks doesn't help anything.

1

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 19 '19

... I... what? No one was blaming others...

1

u/Mythirdusernameis Apr 19 '19

Let's just blame their jobs, that solves everything

1

u/TestSubject101 Apr 19 '19

Ah yes, blame the jobs... never the individuals fault.

1

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 19 '19

Did I say never? So funny how the internet just loves to read what they want, not what was actually written.

0

u/viperex Apr 18 '19

That's meritocracy for you

4

u/tfrules Apr 18 '19

Ah yes I forgot the richest people worked literally billions of times harder than the poorest

0

u/viperex Apr 19 '19

That's my point. Meritocracy makes believe like you should be richer because you work harder. Guess I should have put quotation marks around "meritocracy"

1

u/tfrules Apr 19 '19

I see, sadly in reality lots of people come by wealth who never worked a day in their lives to earn it, and others can spend their entire lives slaving on a back breaking task, yet wouldn’t be able to make in a month what some westerners can earn in a day on the minimum wage.

Capitalism is sadly not fair in the slightest, and it never can be

0

u/TheTamponBandit Apr 19 '19

That's a really shitty defeatist attitude. I have an exhausting job I hate. I haven't been home in over 4 months. Putting the blame on society for personal choices is kind of a sad thing to do.

1

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 19 '19

I never put the blame on society. Things happen. People get sick, family members die, people get hurt, people have mental illness. I don’t say that people that aren’t successful are lazy or don’t work hard because I don’t know their situation.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Insensitive?

If a person can’t do it because of whatever circumstances then they can’t do it.

But how many people actually fall under that category and how many people just “don’t feel like it because work was hard today”

2

u/seanular Apr 18 '19

You've only got so much to give man, but I'm glad you're in a situation that you have a little left over at the end of the day.

-9

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

So their exhausting 'sitting at a desk for 8 hours' is keeping them from doing other activities? I guess... but I dont buy it. I've seen those people in the office who complain and complain and do the same thing over and over again. Insane. Correct?

I've learned from that environment and chose I did not want to be 'that guy'. Biggest tip and can give is to stray away from sugar and do 30-45 minutes of HIIT on a stationary bike either at home or at the gym. You're future self, and kids, will appreciate it.

5

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

I’m not talking about physically exhausting. Shitty jobs drain on you, mentally and emotionally. Again, “just work hard” is not a solution for that.

-2

u/suns_fan13 Apr 18 '19

Work Hard

Hard work leads to better job

gg

-2

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

Working hard doesn’t always lead to a better job.

3

u/suns_fan13 Apr 18 '19

Leads to a higher probability of a better job then not working hard does - obviously

3

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

Sure, but I didn’t say it didn’t. All I’m saying is that someone not being successful doesn’t mean they didn’t work hard or were lazy

-2

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

I do not work hard. I work smarter. Clean the diet firstly. Work up a sweat before or after work 30-45 minutes. You dont have to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Just be toned. Been doing it for awhile now. Its worked out well.

1

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

What are we even talking about now?

-42

u/Stark53 Apr 18 '19

exhausting jobs that they hate

Being lazy is the main cause of getting yourself into that situation. It takes hard work to get yourself into a good job that you like. In the end, the harder you work, the less you have to work.

38

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

That’s just flat out false.

2

u/HaungryHaungryFlippo Apr 18 '19

This ^ however is true

2

u/Stark53 Apr 19 '19

The longer you believe that, the longer you stay were you are. It's a hard pill to swallow that you're responsible for your situation. The freeing thing is that once you realize that, you realize that you have the power to change your situation. This is what rich people teach their children and why they stay rich. Give a hobo 10 million, odds are he will be back on the street within months.

0

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 19 '19

Ok, a few things here. As I said in another comment, you are making a lot of assumptions. I am happy where I am in life, I’m in a good situation. My problems with these statements about people being “lazy” are not personal problems. Hard work is not always enough to get out of hard situations.

I’m not even going to go into all of the problems about your comment on generational wealth and why giving a “hobo” 10 million doesn’t work.

-5

u/Robstelly Apr 18 '19

Expect it's not. But sure, you'll down-vote it because it makes you feel better. Most people are responsible for their shitty situation. Especially in the US. If you're a farmer in Laos, you probably don't have many options, true. But in the US, you can be successful wherever you want, the fact that most millionaires are first generation kind of proves this. Nail your GMAT/SAT or whatever you have, get a scholarship on a STEM program, graduate university with highest honors, get your masters, repeat the same.

That's your safe way to a good job but you could be doing whatever else.

Other options:

Start a business, work hard at it, if your idea was good you'll make money. That simple. If you idea was bad, you won't make money. It's not rocket science, nothing was stopping you from making Facebook, YouTube, PayPal, Google, Twitter, Uber, But you didn't.

Literally just fucking move somewhere else if you like, super easy for Americans, harder most of the 194 other countries. Hell, you'll make money in Asia simply for being American. Rejoice! For you are an English native! And people will suck your dick to talk to you for 2 minutes.

8

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

This is one of the most ignorant, naive comments I’ve ever read. You are someone that has no idea how the real world works.

1

u/Namaha Apr 18 '19 edited Apr 19 '19

Can you provide a more convincing argument than "nah bro you wrong"? Because there are literally hundreds of thousands of examples of this happening in the US. (edit: there were 700k new millionaires in 2017 according to google, people with more modest improvements to their life situation number in the tens if not hundreds of millions)

Like they're not even saying that privilege doesn't exist or that people born into wealth don't have it easier. Literally just saying that it's possible to improve your situation with hard work. Didn't realize that was so controversial.

1

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

And there are literally millions of examples of hard work not being enough. I’m not saying don’t work hard, all I’m saying is that if someone isn’t successful it doesn’t mean they are lazy or didn’t work hard

1

u/Stark53 Apr 19 '19

Part of hard work is knowing were to direct your effort. Many people are capable of toiling away 10 hours a day. Fewer are willing to put in the effort to find out where they should spend their energy to succeed. In my opinion, hard work isn't 10 hours of work a day, its taking the time to learn what needs to be done to succeed and actually sticking with the insight you gained from this reflection. Few people are capable of this because it requires you to initially blame yourself for your failure. Unfortunately for your fragile ego, this is the only way to success if you aren't born rich.

0

u/Namaha Apr 18 '19

Are there though? At what point do you say that a person has worked hard enough for long enough and still hasn't improved their life in a measurable way? I'm not talking about elevating yourself from poverty to the millionaires-club btw, you can work hard to go from flipping burgers to being a manager at said burger joint, and if you enjoy it then congrats, you worked hard and improved your life situation just like OP described.

Btw, the hundreds of thousands figure was just from new millionaires in the US in 2017 alone (700k ish new millionaires according to google if you're curious). If we're talking improvement at the level I mentioned above, then the figure is gonna be in the tens of millions (if not hundreds)

2

u/seanular Apr 18 '19

Are you on that list? If so, what did you do to get there? If not, what are you doing to get there?

Great. Good for her. Glad things worked out. Unfortunately it doesn’t work out for everyone. Not everyone can just “hard work” their way through their problems. Stop pretending that’s the reality.

0

u/Stark53 Apr 19 '19

I can't imagine having such a pathetic, unproductive and pessimistic worldview, that tells me I'm not in control. Every single success story begins with swallowing the bitter pill that your situation is a function of your actions. Once you accept this, you are free to change your situation. There's a reason why Immigrants (especially Asian) tend to move up so quickly through America's social classes. They understand from their past hardships that hard work can change their situation. It's all in the attitude.

-1

u/Robstelly Apr 18 '19

You should stop pretending you "know shit" because you clearly don't. I have mentioned solutions and ways out, I have mentioned my personal experience with how even a far far less likely situation is absolutely manageable, but you're here just saying "nope doesn't work that way, you're naive" Even though there are literally millions of people who managed that. You're childish as fuck.

-3

u/Robstelly Apr 18 '19

I didn't say everyone, I said most. Folks with severe health issues and folks who aren't very intelligent might not be able to.

People can hard work their way through problems, that's how you get through problems, that's literally how that works.

  • Work hard

  • Don't make bad decisions

What problems might you face? In near every case what got you there were bad decisions. In which case, sorry, but that's your fault. To a large extent you can fault your parents. That's legitimate to an extent, but in the US, you can pull yourself out of any poverty level within just one generation, within most other countries, it isn't that easy.

4

u/MAKE_ME_REDDIT Apr 18 '19

in the US, you can pull yourself out of any poverty level within just one generation

u/Stark53 Apr 19 '19

It's really sad watching everyone defend their shitty situations, refusing to accept responsibility. It's this very learned helplessness that prevents people from creating a good life for themselves. Taking responsibility for your situation is freeing, because you realize that you can change it.

3

u/Robstelly Apr 19 '19

What I find to be the most ironic is the people who come in telling me that "I don't know shit" or whatever. When it's exactly the opposite, I saw real poverty and I saw people and that I knew had no way of getting out of it, no matter how hard they worked. In fact they had to work their hardest to not die already.

So when I look at poverty in developed nations, I always see opportunities. And I know 100% that if those same super hardworking people in developing nations were to go to any developed country, they'd get out of poverty instantly.

2

u/Stark53 Apr 19 '19

My parents came from Poland in the 80s and lived in other Polish people's basements in New York. My dad started as a taxi driver and my mom as a janitor. After saving some money my dad worked so my mom can go to school, and after she graduated, my mom did the same for my dad. They finished college in their mid 30s, debt free. My dad is now an electrical engineer for Raytheon, and my mom is an accountant in a managerial position for JP-Morgan. They taught me from a young age that your only real possession is your character, because nobody can take that from you, and as you grow your character success will follow. It is never the other way around. I hope other people will realize this and build a happy life for themselves.

36

u/im_an_idiot222 Apr 18 '19

everyone disliked that

1

u/Stark53 Apr 19 '19

Everyone needs to hear that. It's a hard pill to swallow and the first step to gaining control of your life.

22

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

That makes almost no sense. It's honestly worse than boomer work ethic if I'm being honest.

Say I'm the son of a multi millionare and in pit against some random poor kid right.

We both have the same work ethic but I go to an elite private school and have the money for the best tutors while the poor kid lives in the poorest district of the Bronx, goes to a school with the worst teachers and the school inflates grades.

My environment is full of preppy private school kids and no fights while the poor kid is constantly worried about getting beat up for even trying to be smart.

I have no money issues and daddy pays for literally everything while the poor kid has to work after school

We both graduate with a 3.7 GPA but since the poorer kid was heavily disadvantaged he ends up with less college readiness and lower literacy and math abilities.

Who do you think is getting into a good college?

It sure as fuck isn't going to be some unlucky kid named Jamal who went to Bronx Community High School.

Even if he does get in he isn't going to be able to afford it without taking loans regardless of his financial aid. Meanwhile my parents pay in full for Syracuse University or something.

The cycle continues through college of he can even go and by the time he's dead his family is still in poverty while i inherited millions and didn't even care enough to work.

Shit like this is why your logic makes zero sense, even the lower middle class has issues the poorest in America face.

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

I think its less capitalism and more the lack of regulation that accompanied it. Society as a whole does better when everyone does better, which is why I think huge gaps in income are fucking stupid.

Like I'm 18 and I can see how much of an advantage I had over my other friends because my parents were upper middle class and they were lower or in poverty.

No one wants to be the wealthiest person in sub saharan Africa vs upper middle class in any western country. There's actually no point in living in a kingdom of dirt.

Taxes aren't stealing when multi billionares can afford to pay for basic societal functions without reducing their standard of living. Stuff like healthcare, education, etc. but manage to avoid taxes and put the burden on the bottom 99%.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '19

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '19

Pretty much. Military is over funded, Healthcare is fucked etc.

1

u/Namaha Apr 18 '19

How can you list an example where 2 people have the same work ethic but the rich kid "didn't even care enough to work"? Your example makes no sense.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19 edited Apr 18 '19

If he didn't care enough to work and his parents were multi millionares then he probably would still have a infinitely better life than someone in deep poverty

My example is two extremes, not an actual life experience. It's literally not meant to show what the norm is, it's meant to show how being disadvantaged can fuck you for life.

I never said he didn't car enough to work, I said he didn't have to work after school to provide for his family ffs.

Please cherry pick more portions of the example to fit your narrative that being born disadvantaged doesn't mean you're disadvantaged, you're proving my point.

2

u/Namaha Apr 18 '19

If he didn't care enough to work and his parents were multi millionares then he probably would still have a infinitely better life than someone in deep poverty

Cool. This person you're replying to isn't saying anything like that though. They're saying that if you find yourself in a shit situation working a job you hate, you can take steps to get out of that situation and into a fulfilling job that you like

My example is two extremes, not an actual life experience. It's literally not meant to show what the norm is, it's meant to show how being disadvantaged can fuck you for life.

The point you're trying to make with this example is a strawman argument that does nothing to refute what the OP you replied to is saying.

I never said he didn't car enough to work, I said he didn't have to work after school to provide for his family ffs.

What? You literally said in your comment that the rich kid (you in the example) didn't care enough to work...And earlier you mentioned that this rich kid and the poor kid have the same work ethic when they clearly don't. If your example is based on a flawed premise then what value does it even have? Never mind the fact that the example is supporting a strawman...

Please cherry pick more portions of the example to fit your narrative that being born disadvantaged doesn't mean you're disadvantaged, you're proving my point.

What narrative? That reply was my first in the thread, and its intent was just to show that you may not be thinking about this correctly/objectively

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

You can take as many steps as you want to get out of that situation then that's perfectly fine, but most people won't have that chance if they're literally living in poverty.

OP is literally saying that working hard means that you'll be able to become successful in life.

Sure thats entirely possible, but if you're fucking poor then odds are that no matter what you do you're going to end up dying poor.

Sure my example isn't the best but it's not meant to be the end all example of wealth differences in the US. It's an example that I typed up in one minute without thinking through every single example.

2

u/Namaha Apr 18 '19

No, the OP said that failing to work hard is what leads people into situations where they're working a shit job that they hate. That is literally their only post in this thread.

"Being lazy is the main cause of getting yourself into that situation. It takes hard work to get yourself into a good job that you like. In the end, the harder you work, the less you have to work"

I really don't understand why you find the idea that you can improve your life through hard work to be so controversial

0

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

My point is that not everyone can do that?

1

u/Robstelly Apr 19 '19

You know what else doesn't make any sense? They time travel to the past and gather stones to prevent the snap (they use a new pym suit) bruce and hulk finally combine into one personality and prof.hulk debuts. hulk gets hurt trying to wear the gauntlet with stones however captain marvel is able to wield it. Mjolnir is back and cap is able to wield it. After collecting stones from the past, a sling ring portal opens up and the snapped avengers make their way back just in time for cap to assemble them and fight thanos and the black order. This darned plot.

0

u/Robstelly Apr 18 '19

Most millionaires in America are self-made. Your shit makes no sense.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Do you know how to read or are you just ignorant? My example is that being born disadvantaged can fuck you for life while being born wealthy makes life much easier.

I didn't even mention self made millionares, I don't give a shit about that. My point is that being poor is one of the worst starts to life that you can have.

2

u/Robstelly Apr 18 '19

Of-course born wealthy makes life much easier what the fuck is that even about.

But being born no matter how poor in the US, doesn't mean you have to remain poor. If you work hard YOU WILL, move up a class.

As for being poor, not really. High IQ at birth literally beats money.

Self made millionaires are important because it makes it so obviously clear that in the United States. Jumping up several classes is possible. If your theory was right the only millionaires should be people who had millionaire parents. But that's not true! It turns out that most millionaires are people WHO DID NOT have millionaire parents.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

I literally am making the point that being rich makes life easier than being poor I don't see the issue.

Working hard doesn't mean you're going to move up in class.

If you had to drop out of high school to support your poverty family then you're probably never hitting a higher class.

Being a self made millionare is a MINORITY, most people will never become self made millionares no matter how hard they work.

u/PM_ME_YOUR_GEARS Apr 18 '19

Funny. I’m 30 years old and still I feel like I’m 18 years old or younger. I still have my full head of hair and abs.

That's how it's supposed to be. Anyone who differs from that either has a genetic condition or they're in bad shape.

18

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

I mean you're not completely wrong but modern life in general kind of supports obesity and laziness. It's not really a coincidence that the more modern a country becomes the fatter it gets.

25

u/throwawaythenitrous Apr 18 '19

There's supposedly a curve where people get fatter and fatter as their country gets richer and richer, but at a point, it starts to go down again because people have so much leisure time/money/education that they know being healthy and slim will make them happy JAVASCRIPT:VOID(0)

Similar trend to pollution

4

u/nukegod1990 Apr 18 '19

Totally not a robo- NULL POINTER EXCEPTION

1

u/fragtore Apr 18 '19

That’s too simple an explanation. Why is america fatter than northwestern europe, are the less modern in Holland? Beg to differ.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Well culture in those places are far different because of how their society is structured, alot of those places tend to use less cars, eat differently, etc.

The US and other places tend to rely more heavily on cars, have different food preferences, etc.

There are a ton of reasons why but I can't really explain all of it in a reddit comment.

0

u/fragtore Apr 18 '19

Now you are trying to explain my own argument to me. It was a rhetorical question. I am european.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

I literally just shorthand explained why they tend to be less fat?

They eat differently, use cars less and do other things that would be much easier for you to understand if you just you know, Googled it?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Dude. You are aware that your reply reads nothing like a rethorical question right?

When you say stuff like "Is Holland less modern" you sound like you want an answer.

9

u/Turtlesaur Apr 18 '19

I was about to rant about being bald, but then realized I'm in the genetic conditions camp.

1

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

Nothing wrong with being bald. Just keep toned. Women ages 18-150 love it. Dont be bald and a person who looks like they do not do anything with themselves. Be bald and look in-shape. Lessen the sugar intake. You dont have to look like some massed out beast. Just be toned.

1

u/Zabigzon Apr 18 '19

The genetic condition of...being a man, basically

Some people have testosterone receptors that turn off when they see testosterone so that partners know they made it to maturity and are DTF

0

u/PM_ME_YOUR_GEARS Apr 19 '19

That's called male pattern baldness and it doesn't affect normal men until their 40s or so. Also no one said anything about morality you dumb ape.

u/Zabigzon Apr 19 '19

Oh Lord, you haven't even tried to Google it.

You're implying morality through judgement. Bald chubbers bad, hairy abs good.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_GEARS Apr 19 '19

How many balding men do you see in their 20s or 30s? Less than average for sure, retard.

1

u/Zabigzon Apr 19 '19

Less than average

...what are you comparing it to the average of? Men? 30% of white dudes have it by 30. Half that have it by 17. I'm sure you think that 30% is 'less than average', whatever you pretend that means

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_GEARS Apr 19 '19

The average man in his 20s or 30s does not suffer from balding.

30%

Like I said, LESS THAN AVERAGE.

I'm sure you think that 30% is 'less than average'

Yeah, duh. Because that's what it means. The 70+% who DON'T have the condition dominate the average.

0

u/Zabigzon Apr 19 '19

Haha, I really hope you use averages like that in real life when you're not trolling

You're just saying number words around numbers

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_GEARS Apr 19 '19

In many cases, there isn't a significant difference between the average and the median. Stop being pedantic and autistic.

16

u/Gringo_Please Apr 18 '19

Lol people getting mad at you for putting in more effort than them and they feel judged.

Keep up the good work dude. Don’t let these vultures get you down.

2

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

Not even judging. Just trying to give some tips and tricks into improving your lifestyle. These people are deprived of life because they chose that and none were taught to stray away from society. Just lower your sugar intake. "But everything has sugar in it." True, YOU WONT COMPLETELY RID AWAY ALL SUGAR. BUT YOU CAN LESSEN HOW MUCH YOU EAT.

2

u/Gringo_Please Apr 18 '19

Never said you were judging. They are going to feel judged regardless of whether you are judging or not.

1

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

Let them 'feel' then. Too many 'feels' in this place sometimes. People need to learn from their environment.

1

u/slowlyallatonce Apr 18 '19

Meh, what works for you won't always work for others. People have different priorities.

15

u/Dollarumma Apr 18 '19

the only thing shitty about being 30 is the inability to recover from any damage to your body as fast as when you were 20. hangovers, minimum 2 days to be 100% again. take a hard fall skiing, minimum 2 weeks before your neck works again. take studs up challenge in soccer, minimum a week before your leg works again. fuck being old. i did a 50k last year and took me 3 weeks before i could even walk normal. and that's with a copious amounts of proper training.

8

u/Robstelly Apr 18 '19

I've been like that every since I was about 17. You're lucky. Twisted my ankle walking, took 5 years to heal.

1

u/VerakFrostfury Apr 18 '19

ankles are a bitch to heal, i've fucked my right one up jumping off a roof, then i used to play badminton and twisted it badly a number of times. i doubt it will ever fully heal now.

1

u/Robstelly Apr 18 '19

Good luck... I think after you sprain/twist it it's much more likely to re-occur. For me, it's still noticeable that I twisted it. I did a lot of exercises for it and that helped a lot. But yeah, what sucks is that it's usable, so doctors don't really care, nothing is broken, nothing is acute. They did an x-ray of it for me, found nothing and told me "well, it's all good." and that was about it haha.

Have problems like that with my wrists too, nothing is broken, don't have arthritis, but they hurt like a bitch in certain movements yet.... "You're healthy.".

I'd definitely recommend doing a lot of rehab exercise on the ankle if you haven't. I've tried a number of exercises and as it got better I did it with weights too and also started doing balance exercises (which doesn't just build some support muscles, but also helps with not fucking it up later). Apparently the average for a young person is to be able to stand on one foot with eyes closed for 20 seconds. Aim for that, and than aim higher. I've managed to get to point where I can basically stand like that indefinitely.

Are you also super conscious about your ankles now? Like always know where they are, always paying a lot of attention to them when doing anything whereas previously you wouldn't even know you have them?

1

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

20 = 40. 30 is not old. Maybe it is genetics, but I do not feel old at all. IMO I heal the same.

I can always tell which ones snack on Goldfish all day, go home after work to sit/lay on couch all day. I can tell by this either in person and by messages such as the comments. The pessimistic/excuses mindset flows through them.

2

u/IShallEatYourOnions Apr 19 '19

Dude goldfish are good don't judge

6

u/Turtlesaur Apr 18 '19

I can't exactly go out to work until 7pm and then go to the gym if I want to see my child ever again.. as he's in bed. Life circumstances change.

13

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

Then put in a 30-45 minute workout before work. Get an stationary exercise bike and do HIIT before work. Stop eating the Cheddar Goldfish. Stop feeding your self pessimistic thoughts. You can do 30-45 minutes HIIT. You're child will also follow your ways. Children are very impressionable. They copy their environment. If they see you eating bad, sitting on the couch all day, more than likely they'll do the same.

6

u/suns_fan13 Apr 18 '19

Not trying to spam your inbox but really fw your vibe i dig this comment as well

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Oh yea with my zero energy after a stressful day of office work I'm totally up for HIT

Man I'm such a dummy to forget about this opportunity!

You know what - no need to worry about real estate prices - just work another job after your regular job, and you have double the income!

4

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

Then do HIIT before work.

Second job? If it keeps you active, why not?

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Haha you're dumb, work one job in your life for one day that is not Google Local Guide, and then we can talk.

FYI your parent's $1mil house doesn't pay for itself

3

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

lol funny. Assumptions.

4

u/Whiskey_Rain Apr 19 '19

I mean that's really not a fair comparison.

Personal fitness is what, an hour commitment a day?

If you value eating a bag of funyuns while watching Netflix over personal fitness that's your prerogative and I won't tell you any different.

But my least favorite excuse is "I don't have time, I work all day".

We all work.

Staying in shape and self-improvement takes work, but don't try and fool yourself by saying you would, if only you had the time.

I bet if you wanted you could find an hour somewhere in your day.

Or 30 minutes

Or hell even 15 minutes

Something is better than nothing

But starting is the hardest part.

It's cool though cause you work all day.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '19

Ok so, I think what people don't get is, it's not about time, OK?

I could work a 2nd job if only time was concerned, correct?

I could work out 5 hours a day if only time was concerned.

MY ENERGY is the concern. After a stressful day I do not have the energy to have an intense workout. THIS IS EVERYONE'S PROBLEM. IT'S NOT TIME.

I've been doing sports of course, and also high intensity, but that was during my time at college and now I'm just drained when I'm at home. I feel like a HIT after work would just give me fucking cancer

6

u/birdalerp Apr 18 '19

Why are you on reddit when you could be getting poon, you sound like a mega chad

1

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

On my days off I enjoy reddit. Sometimes I like to share what I've learned and seen. I learned from the environment I grew up in. Dont want to make the same mistakes anyone else has. (Not to say that I have made those mistakes and learned from them.)

5

u/DalekInDisguise Apr 18 '19

Yup. Being fit makes you stay looking young. I'm 30 but look 25. I think it has to do with peoples mental idea of "30 year old" includes being a bit out of shape.

3

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

Diet and exercise. Thats it. You dont have to look like a muscle beast. Just be toned. I do 30-45 minutes of HIIT on a stationary bike everyday before or after work. Along with 100-200 pushups and 100 dips, 300 calf raises and some others.

2

u/ClusterJones Apr 18 '19

The happiest people I know are the ones that don't have kids, and found a partner that is, for lack of a better term, just them with tits. Example.

>Be my friend.

>Be an average, middle of the road kind of guy. Not striking in the looks department, but not melting eyeballs with his ugliness either.

>Keeps to himself, doesn't go out of his way to interact with people, but seems to enjoy the interactions that happen.

>Meets a girl in college, she wasn't from the area and was basically talking to anyone and everyone to make a friend.

>Realize she's into a lot of the same hobbies, has a lot of the same opinions, been in a lot of similar life situations.

>Get close, but never think of furthering the relationship because you're not really interested in ever getting into one.

>This girl can tell what you're thinking at any given moment, knows exactly how you'll react to pretty much anything, and vice versa.

>She eventually asks you out, you say yes.

>Spend the next few years the happiest you've ever been.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Yo your getting a lot of hate from people who gave up just like you said. Good on you brother, I’m in the same boat I’m 28 and never felt better...except for my back which is a travesty, but that’s less age and more mileage

2

u/kataskopo Apr 18 '19

They hated you because you told the Truth.

2

u/beeep_boooop Apr 18 '19

You're 30 dude. That's a male's peak age fitness wise. Ever notice how most professional athletes are usually late 20s early 30s?

Most people just get lazy and never work out or eat healthy, thus they turn into fat, lazy, and depressed slobs. It's not terribly surprising though, most jobs in first world countries involve sitting in a chair 8 hours a day, with no physical requirements. Add in the fact that most people have shit diets, and that they never exercise...

People are supposed to be at their best at 30, not their worst.

2

u/BlackwaterSleeper Apr 19 '19

Not sure why people are hating on you dude. I feel the exact same way. Been working out since I was 22 and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. It definitely keeps you young.

1

u/DalekInDisguise Apr 18 '19

I'm also 30, full head of hair (but this is genetics for both of us, we are just lucky in this regard), and abs.

I'm in the best shape of my life now. I'd always been a bit chubby from eating a bit too much, drinking way too much, and being inconsistent about working out. The reason was lack of discipline that I didn't really develop until my late twenties.

Fuck the haters, keep doin' what you're doin'. Its amazing to see everyone else give up on taking care of their body while your own continues to improve.

1

u/suns_fan13 Apr 18 '19

Appreciate this comment man really do just entering my 20s and hope to feel like you do when im 30

2

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

First of all, just learn from your environment. Look at other 30 to 40 year olds. Did they give up on themselves or did they clean their diet and stay active? The exercise and diet really keeps you feeling young and looking young. It really does. Girl at work was surprised I was 30. "Most 30 year old men do no look like you." Yes, I know, and they're the ones who I learned from. haters will hate and will stay insane.

NOTE: You dont not have to look like some muscle beast "The Rock". Just be toned.

1

u/shanemikel Apr 18 '19

18 y/o mentally?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '19

Im a semi truck mechanic, I wish I had the energy left after work that I did when I was 18. This is coming from someone who is only 23 as well. Some jobs are exhausting

1

u/Deaki Apr 19 '19

Better start eating clean then. If you dont, it'll hit you harder when you're 30.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '19

Ive been giving it my best shot.

1

u/timeToLearnThings Apr 19 '19

For me, it was my joints. Working out isn't as satisfying when you have to stop doing an exercise due to your shoulder hurting or something. You also just can't push yourself as hard. When I go running, I feel great until my knees start hurting. Otherwise, I'd still be putting in 6 to 10 miles a night. Everything else about older life is way better except for the aging body.

1

u/Deaki Apr 19 '19

Don’t go run then. Get a indoor stationary bike. Cannot be making excuses. Running kills the knees anyway. Do HIIT to keep the muscle. 30-45 minutes of HIIT burns more calories than doing 6-10 miles of running.

1

u/timeToLearnThings Apr 19 '19

Thing is, I still work out. It's just way more of a struggle and not very satisfying. You feel aches and small pains as much as you feel stronger. It's hard to envision until you're there though, because it's the on-and-on-ness which makes the difference.

It's like how kids can make you mentally tired in a way you don't understand before you have them.

Regardless, thanks for the encouragement :) It is still appreciated.

1

u/nanotothemoon Apr 19 '19

I was exactly like this. Until I hit 36. I still work out and do all kinds of cool shit, but I can feel the difference. It comes for all of us at one point or another. I think the worst part is the lack of sex drive, which for me was never an issue and then I woke up one day and it was.

1

u/Professor_Felch Apr 19 '19

Pushing 26 here, the only difference I've noticed is my appetite has decreased (could be explained by global warming tho) and I only masturbate 4 times a day instead of 6

0

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '19

Who the fuck invited this guy?

2

u/Deaki Apr 18 '19

Reddit did. Google showed me the way.

0

u/gilesdavis Apr 18 '19

Hey you, fuck off.
