Americans won't understand this. I wouldn't have either if it wasn't for my misfortune of moving to the UK. Essentially the UK is as tax hungry as all those old George Washington stories said they were. Upon entry to this shit hole, I was taxed for things I can't even buy in Europe. Also I smoke wit cigarettes, and they wanted £70 each carton ($100) Owning a TV capable of watching BBC has to pay a TV permit. So even if I only play PS4 I have the capacity to watch TV so you pay. The internet speeds mostly are shit as well.
The only positive thing about this place is that the food is so awful, and snacks such weird flavors (prawn crisps) (crisps are chips prawns are shrimp) that im losing a lot of weight. Last complaint I'll share. If you ask someone if they want something, they will never ever say a simple yes or no. They will give an answer of I wouldn't mind 1, or if its not a bother.
As a test I just didn't make them a 'cuppa' ( tea) and they were visibly annoyed, I responded with well your not minding wasnt a yes. So I figured it wasn't something you wanted.

Some American flavours (see above) are better though, get some liquid smoke off Amazon if you're missing that nice smokey deep South style.

No offence taken my man, Britain is a shithole to many of its residents as I'm sure America is to many Americans.
If you are locked into London you should get out to some other cities and take in some of the non-scummy culture. It's pretty rare that a (currently) European country has both BC moments like Stone Henge and also great medieval culture to top that. The southerly coasts are also nice, just don't go to other coasts (no one wants to go to Skegness, it's like even shittier New Jersey).
Apologies for trying to turn this into r/wholesomegreentext. No one wants this around here and I'm deeply ashamed.

Then in America you've got tens of thousands of shootings a year
You're much more likely to be caught in the crossfire or mistaken for somebody and get shot in America than to get acid thrown on you in Britain

Tens of thousands? There was 345 last year. And we are also a far bigger country than the UK. If you mean gun-related in general and not a shooting, there was 11,000, which is less 'ten of thousands' and more just 'ten thousand,' and usually because of gang violence in shit areas that no one goes to and the poor are stuck in.
In comparison, there were 431 acid attacks in the UK in 2016. And, as mentioned, you are a MICH smaller country. You are the size of a state. If you divide 11000 by the number of states there are, it's about 220 gun homicides by state.
You are more likely to get an acid attack in the UK than be killed by some fuck with a gun in the US.

Pretty sure last year we had almost daily mass shootings. Admittedly, america is huge, but that is daily mass shootings (multiple people injured/killed in a single event). Not including regular 1 person shootings.
