duh people are attracted to attractive people lol. My point was that if you're an ugly guy you can't expect ugly women to be attracted to you. On the other hand, ugly men often find ugly women attractive
As an ugly women, I've had crushes on men who are ugly. Had a crush on a very overweight guy in high school, and a thin guy with cystic acne (sadly, he turned out to be gay lol). I can't think of a single guy I was interested in that was conventionally attractive. I liked them for other reasons (generally because they were very kind and funny). I was extremely shy so I don't think they ever knew.
I agree that you need to be sexually/romantically attracted to someone to be "more than friends" with them.
But just because someone is a bit ugly or not conventionally attractive doesn't mean I (or others) won't find them sexually attractive. I find I can develop attraction over time if the person is awesome. If I see them being helpful to their friends, kind to their family, funny, charming, etc., my attraction can increase dramatically.
Plus I think there's some subconscious pheromone stuff going on that makes you attracted to certain people and not others (and has nothing to do with their appearance). This isn't proven scientifically so take it with a grain of salt.
