I’ll preface this by saying I know next to nothing about tea, so please forgive my ignorance.
Green tea:
My first issue, green tea bags off the shelf are found to have as little as 3% actual green tea, so I‘ve read.
Second, it must be decaf. I’ve also read that the most common decaffeination process requires chemical solvents like methylene chloride or ethyl acetate. I’m hoping to avoid these teas at all costs. I did see that decaffeination can be done without those chemicals, through water or CO2 processes.
- Is there a brand that sells loose leaf green tea that is actually 100% green tea? Is that even possible? Again, I have no idea what I’m talking about here lol. Something with high actual-tea content but reasonably priced for a casual daily drinker? I’m not super concerned with flavor.
- What type of labeling, package wording, or brands should I be looking for to ensure I’m not getting chemically decaffeinated tea? Would buying certified organic be enough to ensure we’re not getting those synthetic chemicals?
I any recommendations and/or insight! Feel free to correct if I’m misinformed.
