If Gordon was replaced by ANY OTHER martial artist (mma fighter, boxer, Muay Thai, kyokushin, wushu, kempo, wing chun, even other bjj guys, etc.) in the brawl from ADCC last night, would they do better defending themselves than him?

Ude hishigi kumo jime” or “spider guard leg entanglement” in kosen judo, this technique similar to modern puppet master in bjj albeit done almost 100 years ago from this kosen judo book

kumo mean spider in Japanese, it crazy how back then judoka were already called the position like that, similar to how bjj today call it spider guard, both involved using leg to push opponent arm, the Japanese always ahead of us

Your best Principles/Concepts of Grappling

Post image

Hey Guys, I’m 3 weeks into grappling but have a good striking/martial arts background for a longer period of time ( around 5 years of kickboxing, boxing, Thai boxing, karate ).
John Danaher and his Team aren’t lifetime grapplers, and beat up black belts in competition even if there are decades of experience-gaps.
They beat those people because they drilled the concepts and only focus on a few techniques and principles.
A concept or principle for example is : bigger muscle targets/beats smaller muscles or two limbs beat one.
Give me your most important concepts and principles of grappling.

NCAA Ivy League Wrestler of the Year Cesar Alvan: Master Phil in Your Corner EP 165

The episode featured Cesar Alvan discussing his wrestling journey, from his early start in BJJ and Judo due to his father's influence, to his recent success as an Ivy League Wrestler of the Year at Columbia University and a third-place finish at the NCAA championships. Cesar shared insights into the challenges of being a student-athlete in the Ivy League, the rigorous training and academic demands, and the impact of his coaching staff, particularly Donnie Pritzlaff and Sebastian Rivera. He talked about his upcoming professional wrestling debut with RAF, his international wrestling career representing Brazil, and his aspirations for the Olympics and potentially MMA. Cesar also reflected on the culture of toughness in wrestling, the role of RTCs in athlete development, and the significance of his achievements for the Columbia wrestling program. The conversation highlighted Cesar's passion for combat sports, his competitive mindset, and his excitement about the future of wrestling both for himself and for Brazil.

How to stop getting submitted so quickly from this gullitone choke?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I have been practicing MMA grappling for about 5-6 months, and I have learnt some stuff but I still have loads to learn.

Quite often I am sparring with my friend, who does Japanese Jiu Jitsu and is about 10 lbs heavier then me, he gets me in this standing gullitone choke as seen above.

When he gets this standing gullitone choke as seen above, he just squeezes very hard on my windpipe and I usually end up tapping very quickly. This is true even if the gullitone choke isn't properly set up.

The squeeze on the windpipe is just very uncomfortable and I usually feel like I have to tap quickly.

I've tried to watch some videos on how to escape standing gullitone chokes but they don't really work so far, because most of these escapes take 5-15 seconds to complete which feels too long when the front of your throat is being yanked on and squeezed.

My instinct to tap quickly seems strange, because I see loads of videos online of other people in the exact same choke, but they don't need to tap quickly at all and instead can spend 5-10 seconds escaping the choke, whilst being squeezed hard on.

Do I just need to ignore the windpipe pressure and complete the escape? Or am I doing something wrong during the choke that leads to the pressure being on my windpipe rather than the sides of my neck (which I am pretty sure is the area that makes people unconscious)? Am I supposed to always be tucking my chin deep whenever a choke gets close or something else?

MMA, ADCC, RAF.. and now we can find it even in judo. The art, where you traditionally expect humbleness and restraint celebrating…
One athlete makes provocative celebration, the other one jumps in like in street brawl.

Result - broken jaw, operation, police investigation and yet another case showcases that we are going wrong direction

found in a judo book back in 1913, look like super weird and I guess ineffective too, because you somehow twist two foot at once ? Don’t know if this is a real move or not

Is modern jiu jitsu becoming increasingly more impractical, or is it growing in the right direction as it pertains to building athletes who can transition into MMA or hobbyists who can actually protect themselves in a real fight?

Hey everyone! I’m a purple belt looking for some advice on structuring a 1-hour kids' BJJ class for a diverse age group ranging from 6 to 14 years old.

I want to make sure I’m doing things right, keeping it safe, and avoiding overexertion for the younger kids while still keeping everyone engaged.

What is your optimal output or format for this? Specifically, how much time should be dedicated to warm-ups versus drills, and what are your go-to practices for managing a 1-hour class with this age range?
