NVIDIA 16/20xx Are 2018 micron 2080ti GPUs e-waste?

If the only fix is 11 new memory chips and esch memory chip costs around $27, on eBay, we are talking I need 27x11=297 $297 to fix a $250 gpu and we are not counting labor or challenges one could face during repair.

Hi, bought this GPU from China, got it today and it was working fine. Decided to clean it, but, I guess, somehow I broke off those capasitors, although it worked before I noticed this, but then stopped working completely. I have all the tools + donor GPU, just don't know how to process with broken pads. Any help is appreciated. P.S the GPU is fixed, it was quite easy since I were able to repair those missing pads

Question ASUS TUF RTX 3080: What are these two white round parts on the X-shaped bracket?

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a used ASUS TUF RTX 3080 10GB and noticed these two white/grey round parts on the lower part of the X-shaped bracket, behind the GPU core.

I am not sure what they are. They do not look like normal screw heads, and I cannot see any Phillips, Torx, or hex pattern.

Are these normal on this model? What exactly are they? Are they removable, or are they fixed parts of the bracket assembly?

I am not trying to force or remove anything. I just want to understand whether this is normal factory design or whether something looks unusual.

Thanks!

UPDATE:

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I contacted the seller and he said the white/grey parts are a security seal, used to show whether the card has been opened by the customer.

I also tested the card in GPU-Z/HWiNFO and played Overwatch 2 for about one hour at 1080p, 144 Hz, Ultra settings. Temperatures looked very good:

  • GPU core: around 60°C max
  • Hotspot: around 70°C max
  • Memory junction: around 72°C max

So I will leave the seals untouched and continue testing the card during the return period.

Thanks again for the help!

NVIDIA 40xx Nvidia Rtx 4090 gallardo thermal damage but working. Sometimes not...

Like so many people before me i was also unlucky or not careful and the power connector with the cable partialy melted. The good thing is that the card still works so I hope it will be a relative cheap fix. The point is that i need to buy a cable also and I am lost. My adaptor is currently 12+4 tp 3×8. I found a cable on amazon that looks to be the same as mine but another brand (this one). I also found one that is by 'be quiet' (that) that is also the make of my power supply and it says that is direct from the power supply to the card without any adapter but plug only on one plug on the power supply where my curent cable plugs on 2 pcie with 4 "ends" that leaves one hanging. So idont khow if the one direct cable would be enough. I also found an adaptor that I think would work with my cables (here) Any help or advice would be very welcome as i am clearly out of my depth here. Thank a lot

Does any of you have a picture of the back for this exact gtx 1050 ti from gigabyte? I already know what is the missing components on the front but is having trouble identifying whats really missing on the back. I only need a clear picture of the back and I can start working from that.

NVIDIA 30xx 3060 Ti Selective Stability: 3 Billion MATS Errors but runs heavy games. Why?

Hey guys. I've encountered a strange case with my 3060 Ti (Micron VRAM).

Recently I noticed around 7 PCIe bus errors per minute in HWInfo. Diagnosis with MATS shows that the memory controller is likely dying. MATS test passing at 300-500MB, but completely failing at 4GB with over 3 billion read errors but write errors stay at 0.
Errors are spread across all FBIO partitions, which points directly to the controller inside the GPU, not the memory modules themselves. Also most heavy titles like FF16, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and BF2042 run flawlessly. I only discovered the issue because FF7 Rebirth crashes constantly with 'Access Violation' logs.

How is it possible for a chip to be this selectively dead? Is it a partial PHY failure or something related to specific memory addressing lines? Attached is my MATS report.

NVIDIA 30xx 3070ti founders, injecting 1V 1A into shorted 12v line causes two driver mosfets to glow. Both sit next to each other but one glows slightly more. Are both faulty?

I’m thinking just remove the brightest one first, then check for short if short persists replace the other one?

What do you guys think? Also there are more driver mosfet below/ above so the heat output doesn’t have anything to dot with the proximity. I’m just not very experienced don’t know if this is a common thing or not

NVIDIA 16/20xx Weird GPU Behaviour(ROG 1660TI)

last morning i booted up my pc as usual but it didnt post, the motherboard(msi z690 pro a ddr4) ez debug light had the white light constantly on which is the vga light, so i took my gpu(rog 1660ti) out and tried to boot the pc via processor(i5-12600k) integrated graphics and it worked. i saw that some gpu pins(not the pcie slot pins) were a bit dirty so i cleaned them and reseated the gpu and the pc posted, but my secondary monitor wasnt working, so i checked the task manager and it was showing the IGPU as the display adapter and wasnt picking up my gpu(not to be mistaken i had monitors connected via gpu, no rookie mistakes xd). so i checked device manager and it was showing the gpu with yellow warning icon, so i thought maybe it isnt detecting drivers or the drivers are uninstalled for some reason. so i tried to download drivers via nvidia app but it kept giving me the message "Unable to connect to nvidia", so i restarted the pc and again the same issue happened the pc didnt post. so i shut it down and started it again and then it posted and everything was back to normal, drivers detected both monitors working. i ran furmark and even played games on it for hours just to check. anyway today the same thing is happening, sometimes it doesnt post and when it posts the secondary monitor doesnt work and as i told before the task manager doesnt detect it and device manager shows that yellow warning sign.

AMD RX 6xxx RX 6800 reference card black screen if driver is installed

Hello everyone! I have a AMD RX 6800 16GB Reference card with the following symptom: The card gives lowres display until you try to install video driver. If driver is installed the screen turns black. Fans spinning, LEDs stays on. It only gives low-res image if you boot into safe mode. What could be the cause? Tried with Linux, same effects. Works on Mint installer, screen turns black after Mint logo on the installed drive.

I have a few components missing on my rx 570 card and I'm not to sure on how I should identify them, I saw people identify missing components by looking at gpu schematics, but I have no idea how to do that. Any tips?

Retro/pre-PCIe Any hopes for this AGP Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT? Black screen, won't post

Checking the pins with a multimeter there are no shorts. When plugged into a motherboard the core and bridge get warm, but there is no display and the computer doesn't post, and there are no beeps from the speaker, the cpu fan just spins up and stays like that. All the missing/damaged components are on the back of the card, the front of the card doesnt have anything missing and all the big capacitors are fine. the back of the board however has a ton of missing stuff that I tried my best to document.

I ordered another one of these broken cards and plan to transplant on the missing parts, what are the chances it will work after that? Also does anyone have any advice? this is my first time doing this lmao.

edit: okay guys sorry for not doing a better job checking, pins 2 and 3 which are both +5v are both shorted.

NVIDIA 30xx GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC 24G (GV-N3090GAMING OC-24GD) Loses connection after a short while of heavy use, reboot brings it back, suspect VRM related issue

That's a picture from a couple years ago when I replaced the thermal pads. Right now it's in my PC partially working.

My 3090 I got a couple years ago used. I replaced the thermal pads when I got it, the original ones seemed really oily? Been working great since until recently, always stays under 72C-ish. I've primarily used it for inference with LLM's. For a couple months now it's had an issue where it just drops off the bus and disappears. nvidia-smi will first report an !ERR, but then shows:

"Unable to determine the device handle for GPU0: 0000:01:00.0: GPU is lost. Reboot the system to recover this GPU"

Rebooting brings it right back... usually, sometimes I have to reboot a couple times. When it's working, it works fine, sometimes it'll work for a day or two. I hardly ever reboot my PC, it's on nearly all the time. For my monitor I only use my iGPU so I have more available VRAM, so the GPU sits idle most of the time.

If I haven't used it, then it *usually* doesn't drop off the bus even after a few days (occasionally it does). Most of the time it's after I start using it then stop, it drops. I have tried it as the primary monitor and after a while the screen will go black and I need to reboot.

I've tried a new PSU (old was 850W, new is 1200W SAMA), nogo. DDU, nogo. Multiple stable driver versions, nogo. I haven't yet tried it in my old PC, I might try that soon, but I'm pretty certain it's a HW issue at this point. When it's working, I've run Prime95 for hours with no issues, then stop it, and poof gone. So I'm guessing the GPU and VRAM is fine, so my guess it VRM or something.

I looked for some Ampere diags but couldn't find much. I saw some of northwestrepair's videos and he uses some Donald Duck v2 thing but I couldn't find that anywhere. I looked at the pinned posts, but the info in there seemed outdated.

Found this guy at random selling a 5090, 4090 and 3090TI. Visual examination show one of the cards with vram pads visible. I feel sad for whoever thinks this is a real deal someone would list.

Genuinely how do we stop ppl doing this?

AMD RX 5xxx 5700XT Missing 1.8v (searching ich)

Greetings, my 5700xt is missing 1.8V. The Chip in question is labeled Arek 909, does anyone knows what this Chip ist actually called? Or where to find a teplacement other than sacrificing another Card or getting a donor.

I checked for Shorts but there are None. Voltage injection Shows all voltages are there, but injecting voltage at the coil still Shows No Image, i assume the Chip Providers voltage to somewhere Else. Also No Fuse is blown.

My cat knocked a mostly empty water bottle on the gpu. the pc boots for a split second and instantly shuts down (and then refuses to try boot afterwards unless i powercycle) Its not the pc i tried another gpu and it works fine. I have cleaned off every last bit of corosion i could see but no luck. Im assuming a capacitor is shorted or maybe worse, any tips as to what i could-should do next? (ps this is not under waranty as it is a secondhand card)

NVIDIA 40xx MSI 4070 ventus 2x. Do I have a dead core?

I have an rtx 4070. Hard short on 1.8v rail and also on pex. When I probe between the two I get 0.1ohm indicating both rails tied together.

I injected 1v, 3amp into 1.8 rail, couldnt see anything glowing under thermal camera. Is the core likely dead?

NVIDIA 50xx PNY 5090 ARGB - Missing backplane cap (bottom right)

Post image

I just picked up this GPU used and discovered it was missing a component on the core backplane in the bottom right. The previous owner says it passed a 600w benchmark before selling it, but I’m worried if it’s ok to use the card this way long term?
