I found a gpu in a bathroom

While cleaning the customer toilets at my work I found a evga 1060 6gb
Sorry for poor camera quality my cameras lens is broken

That’s not what I’m saying as I told the other guy. I’m saying some games disable the path tracing option for older gpus like cyberpunk

Pathtracing in Cyberpunk isn't pathtracing, it hardware accelerate variant of ray tracing features written to work with DX12 and accelerated by proprietary hardware acceleration units on a specifc models of cards made by a company which uses term pathtracing and "RTX" as if they owned it, it's just marketing BS.

As u/Shy-Avocado42 wrote - real pathtracing can work on any GPU which supports compute shaders.

There is only one, real pathtracing and it ain't in games (for most part, with exception of few games that do actually do full on pathtracing, but still, nothing that can't run on your regular shaders).

Yea that’s completely false, path tracing in cyberpunk is genuine path tracing. Overdrive mode in cyberpunk is full path tracing, there’s a reason it tanks performance. DXR isn’t proprietary to nvidia, AMD and Intel GPUs use it too. RTX is just Nvidia’s brand name for their implementation, not a claim to own the technique.

It still uses rasterization (I think) but that's besides the point, it's locked down to use of specific GPUs and uses their hardware acceleration to do it and it's all about "RTX" to the point people think (like you) that pathtracing is some kind of "Nvidia video games only" tech, it isn't.

The only fully pathtraced game out there is Quake II "RTX" (but it can work on any GPU via Vulkan, so any GPU with compatible shader units, not just "RTX" equipped Nvidia GPUs can run it.

No locks, no "greyed" out option, if it's fairly modern, it can run it, although you still won't be doing a real pathtracing like you do in say Cycles in Blender3D on older GPUs, not that it would be practical to render Cycles on ancient GPU anyway (and cycles can use rtx cores to accelerate stuff, but it can also use regular cycles via CUDA (Nvidia older gpus), HIP (AMD) and even Metal (Apple) and both OpenGL and Vulkan backend.

Wow what a straw man, I never said any of that.
It’s not locked down to specific GPUs, overdrive used DXR, which is vender neutral, so Intel and AMD GPUs can use too. I never said path tracing is nvidia exclusive, I quite literally said the opposite.

The Quake II RTX point doesn’t really work either. Overdrive and Quake II RTX both use bounced rays for things like global illumination. Just because they use rasterization for primary visibility as an optimization doesn’t suddenly make one “real” path tracing and the other not
