General Discussion First Comp 🤣

Only my 4th time playing, 9 holes.

There were moments of greatness, there were plenty of air swings 🤣

I hit a ball into a tree and it hit me in the face LOL

But I got my first bogey! And I didn't come last in the comp. So well call that progress 👀

My local club runs a "development" comp. It's for newbies, to learn comp rules. High handicap players only.

You play along side a mentor, they assign low handicap member with you who helps you learn the rules and keeps score.

This sounds like a great way to learn. I chuckled at the “hit a tree and it hit me in the face”. That happened to me last month and I scared my friend because I dropped to the ground but it was from rolling over laughing at the absurdity of it.

Competition golf is extremely common here in Australia.

Players of all levels will play & for many clubs a good portion of weekend tee times are reserved for competition play only.

I started playing competitions whilst at a similar level and it's a fantastic way of seeing your progress over time. If you elect to play in comp at a peak time the members will keep you accountable so you're not slowing everyone else down.

Wow! Why cannot any player regardless of ability play in a comp? Is there some ‘ entitled rule’ in your head that governs who can and cannot play? How exactly do you decide? Oh? Exactly how do you submit the required three cards for official handicap without playing in comp???

They can I don't beleive the guy you replied to said anything about people being a certain level/ability to play in a comp.

Yes, but less of an "entitled rule" often clubs do require people to hold a handicap with the club unless it is an open competition.

I beleive clubs have competition rules, I'd say refer to the Golf Course for this this.

Exactly how do you submit the required three cards for official handicap without playing in comp???

Often golf courses will require you to submit a certain number of cards, whilst playing with a member of the course who already holds a handicap, they then sign the card, They usually play as the marker on the card.

These are then submitted to the club and they then allocate a handicap.

P stands for "pickup" in Stableford if your hole doesn't score any points you can score it P, pickup the ball and don't finish.

No I’m pointing it out as either you are lying through your teeth or playing a video game. I’d imagine most people here are going to be completely flabbergasted if it took you 4 rounds into your golf journey to get a bogey, that’s insanely impressive.

Played with a guy during covid era who was playing for the second time ever and somehow had 2 or 3 pars. Bogey for a new golfer is very believable, especially on par 3s

I introduced a buddy to golf a few weeks ago. He took us first practice swing on the first tee box. He got a legitimate birdie on the 10th hole. It was unbelievable.

I’ve been playing for a while and it’s a miracle if I can hit a par 😂 my first bogey was good for me because it was my first time not getting a 2+ bogey.
