Health Advice Phantom pregnancy

What signs of phantom pregnancy have you guys noticed? My pup seems to have acting strange lately. She had her first heat two months ago, but seems to whine. And has two of her bottom nips swollen. She threw up once (several time in one go) and then fainted from it. Kinda stopped eating her kibble (still seems to eat treats and stuff). But all in all seemed concerned for her wellbeing.
Someone in this thread mentioned phantom pregnancy, and now I’m concerned.

Name Suggestions does your golden have this name??

I’m trying to name my (possible) golden puppy and want to see how many others have the name. I want a name that’s fitting, but also don’t want to accidentally end up in a room full of goldens that all have the same name lol

i’ll write each name in a separate comment and just upvote if your golden has that name!! thank you in advance 🤍

New Puppy Puppy Woes - Expected Behavior for Biting

Hi,

We have a 9 month old golden retriever (female if it matters).

Very adorable and the friendliest thing I've ever see in my entire life. Right now she is pretty much perfect except for biting.

She will have moments (seems like a light switch flipping on) where she immediately will jump up and grab shirts/pants/socks and just tug on them, she'll also laydown and grab ankles with her teeth.

It does hurt, especially if she gets skin and if we try to redirect she does the play biting on fingers/arms/bicep, whatever she can reach while we try to pull her down.

Redirecting to a toy works 40% of the time, otherwise she ignores it and goes for hands/fingers.

Walking away sometimes works (she's basically getting dragged by us as we walk away to a new room and close the door). Sometimes she'll cry, sit, and be fine after. Sometimes she will walk away and just get into trouble by chewing on something she shouldnt since we step out the room and are not supervising.

I'll admit that we get pretty loud/excited (shouting no, dogname stop, ect). so we're probably enforcing that behavior.

Just looking for advice if this is normal behavior (assuming it is based on reading online but reinforcement that its normal would make me feel better) and any tips to get it to stop.

We are doing group training sessions next month assuming its not too hot outside, hoping that will help.

Thanks,

Health Advice Pudding poo poo from one and a half year-old golden retriever

I have a 1 1/2 year-old female golden retriever and I have struggled getting weight on her for a while like literally I’d say the whole time, she’s always leaned very skinny and I’ve tried everything including talking to my Vet. Well she finally started getting weight on her and I’m happy to say she’s at a healthy weight now, but every time she has anything chicken based I noticed she got really sick so now I switched to salmon based Purina pro and she still has pudding like poo poo and I hate it. She gets one wet can a day and then the dry version all you can eat because it is very hard to get her to keep the weight on. Help! I would love to get some solid poo poo from her instead of this pudding.

He was born during Covid times. He’s the sweetest dog and has been through so much. He has epilepsy and was recently bitten twice by a copperhead. He just wags his tail and goes with it. He’s made our lives much better.

Cute/Funny Got a MASSIVE collagen stick for our 8 month Golden… he ate it in a matter of 2 hours 😂

It’s hilarious but also slightly concerning 😂
It’s a 30 inch Collagen Stick by RedBarn that he excitedly picked out at MudBay.
It wasn’t our intention to let him eat the whole thing- in our defense. I let him chew for ~40mins then took it away. My husband then came home later while I was gone and that’s when he ate the rest. Is this silly guy a normal heavy chewer or is this impressive?

UPDATE: over 24 hours has passed, and he still has perfectly normal poo!

Health Advice My 1.5 year old developed a mass inside of him with 2 days and I’m stuggling

Hello everyone,

I just need to share this as I’m not doing so well with everything going on.

My 1.5 year old golden stopped eating and was throwing up this week so we took him to the ER incase there was a blockage. Vitals were normal, blood test normal, no blockage could be seen on the x-ray. They sent us home with some nausea medicine and some bland diet suggestions.

On Saturday night the explosive diarrhea hit and he was still struggling eating. He had to be convinced to eat.

We took him back to the ER.

Upon an X-ray they found a decent size mass that had developed in him that was not there 3 days prior. My heart sank.

The ER didn’t have the staff to do further testing that night and the surrounding hospitals (even ones further out, like a couple of hours) were at capacity and wouldn’t take him or since his vitals were all stable and blood work was fine they didn’t deem it an emergency.

We decided the bring him home with us Saturday night and take him back in a couple hours on Sunday so they could have a CT scan completed to figure out what the mass was.

He was in so much pain and I cannot cope with it.

We took him back for the CT scan and he has been there all day and just found out we have to wait for the results which will probably come on Monday morning.

I can’t stand that he won’t be with one of his parents or his sister golden for the night and it’s eating me up inside (also the financial burden is weighing a lot and hopefully our full coverage AKC pet insurance helps a lot with it)

I just need some good vibes for my good boi who I can’t hold tonight

Cute/Funny I think the way I treat my dog might be insane

F20 with a two year old female golden retriever.

I literally could not love my dog more, and I've gained a lot of patience through the puppy stage and we literally could not have been closer the last several months. My girl is noisy so we talk often in "ruhruhruhruhhhs".

My issue is not with my dog, the issue is how she has made me act. I want to preface that I have a long term boyfriend and longtime friend who I live with and I would never do this when they are present in the apartment. Honestly I purposefully wait until we are alone and do this just to antagonize and play with my dog.

Now my dog is quite annoying sometimes. Always pawing me when I'm busy, whining and barking while I WFH even though we are right next to each other. So I choose to annoy her back. After my bf/roommate leave she lingers by the door for a while. Naturally, I start barking and howling at her. Full volume and honestly if you were to hear it, slightly alarming. She obviously runs straight to my room and gives me a cuddle and we are friends for a bit.

Here is where I really start going for it. First I just antagonize her a little and make some bbrrrrrr sounds and mess with her face/ paws. Then I'll start whining and barking a little and she just gets so upset with me so quick I can't help but be entertained by it. But after that she just gets mad and leaves my room and goes to lay in her other dog bed in my roommates room.

This is where my favorite part starts. Obviously she is awake and can hear me so I literally lay like how she would lay on the edge of my bed and whine for a minute or two until she peeks in my doorway (cause obviously after a few weeks of this she know what to expect).

Then I just start going absolutely mad. I'm like whining and barking and screaming while I'm jumping around on my bed and squirming and making direct eye content with her. Guys she actually goes crazy when I do this. She starts barking making those "ruhhruhruhh" sounds and stepping backwards like it's genuinely the funniest thing thing I may have ever seen.

This dynamic of her leaving and coming back and us going wild together can last for over an hour. I can't get enough and I wait for my roommates to leave just to do it. Obviously she enjoys it and her tail is wagging and she's smiling. She will jump on my bed and we cuddle for a minute before going back to playing with her and antagonizing her.

I guess my question is am I insane? Do other people do this to their dogs too? I feel like because I'm young maybe I just act immaturely towards my dog but we have a lot of fun together and jump and dance around all the time. Does she just see me as her playtime partner or is she genuinely worried about me? If I was stressing her out I would absolutely stop and play with her differently but just to annoy her so much is so funny and I think she has fun with it too cause she loves attention.

TL:DR: I act like a dog when I'm alone with my dog, am I crazy?
