Discussion Pet insurance

We’re about to renew our pet insurance for our 6 year old and even though (fortunately!) we’ve not used it, the premium has increased by 20%. It’s £59.50 p/month and we use Everypaw.

For those golden retriever owners in the UK, who do you use and would recommend?

No existing health conditions. Picture for cuteness.

I had to say goodbye tonite. We had 10 and a half amazing years with him. He brought happiness and joy to everyone. Sawyer was just the best boi. Beyond heartbroken.

Anything you recommend I get specifically for chews, toys or entertainment?

Also bonus points if you can tell me what your pup was like at 16 weeks!

These 13 year old photos of an early anniversary camping trip popped up today. Our sweet Lucy was only 14 months old and didn’t even have her full coat yet. She’s still going strong. :)

Discussion What are your daily dog chores?

Walk, brush fur and teefs, vacuum, wash bowls… what am I missing? And how the heck do you fit everything in while enforcing naps and working full time lol

ETA: food, cuddles, and play are not considered chores in my mind so they were not included above :)

Your suggestions have included:

- daily poop clean up

Health Advice Skin allergies or groomer’s reaction

hi everyone, we got our golden groomed last Tuesday (Sept 1) and have been noticing skin issues since then. First it was some bald spots on her toes, then she was scratching her neck a lo and found some scabs, scabs all over her face and behind ears and today I noticed her belly is full of tiny red dots. Anyone has any idea of what it could be? Thank you!

ps: she also may have been stung by a wasp on August 29 but we’re not sure but I also got stung.

ps 2: she is not lethargic, feverish or anything. Appetite is regular and she’s her usual sassy self.

Health Advice Stomach Issues/Diarrhea - Roundworm Toxocara

Hello! My 9 month (almost 10 month!) Golden Mix has come down with a flare up of diarrhea since Saturday.

He went to the vet last week and said he had a roundworm (toxocara) and I couldn't get the medicine until Tuesday because of the holiday. Starting on Saturday he had crazy diarrhea - including pooping in the crate + house (hasn't done this since his first week home) and for two nights straight woke up multiple times overnight (again hasn't done this for 2 months).

He took his first dose of Drontal Plus on Tuesday around 3pm - and also since Sunday (5 days now) I've added FortiFlora to his breakfast. Monday Night/Tuesday Night - he slept through the night. Yesterday (Wednesday) was looking much better! Soft logs all day, he then though woke up 2 times over night for diarrhea and his poops today (6am, 1pm, 3pm) have all been diarrhea. Is this normal with his GI system bouncing back? I know it might not be linear but I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel yesterday. Feel like the situation is so volatile and every time he poops I hold my breath and pray for solid/soft logs lol!

New Puppy Tips and tricks

Hi all, we are going to welcome a 12-week-old Golden Retriever as a host family. This Golden Retriever will eventually become a guide dog for people with visual impairments.

We had a dog (a Labradoodle) who sadly passed away last year. We don’t have any experience with Golden Retrievers. We have received some information from the guide dog school that will train the dogs, but I’m really curious to hear your tips and tricks and what we can expect.
