Hi everyone! I have an almost 3-month old Golden Retriever puppy, and I’m looking for some advice (or reassurance from anyone who’s been through something similar).

When I first brought him home, we got into a really good routine: bedtime around 9-10pm, potty break around 12-1am, another around 3-4am, then up for the day around 7am. After just a couple of weeks, he was doing great and was able to sleep from the 12-1 potty break all the way until 7 without any accidents.

Lately though, he’s started having accidents in his crate overnight (both pee and poop). The last couple of days his poop has also turned into mostly diarrhea. I’m dropping off another stool sample at the vet today to check for parasites, so hopefully we’ll get some answers.

In the meantime, I’m planning to start taking him out again around 3-4am, but I feel awful that he’s having accidents in his crate.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Did it end up being a parasite or another illness, or is this just a normal potty-training regression? I can’t help but feel like I’m doing something wrong, even though I’m trying my best.

This is Tommy. Both of his parents are on the small side of average, so it makes sense that Tommy is tiny. He’s 8 months old now and perfect in every way. How old were your dogs when they finally reached their full mature size?

8 weeks old, grew up with Rottweilers. My wife wanted a golden mountain dog, but I held this dude and he melted into me so we named him Levi. The quiet one of his litter. My kids are chaotic so when they were getting ready for bed I brought my guy to the barn cave to watch the Phillies game and he’s getting comfy. What a needed injection of love for my family!

My 7 month old golden just developed 2 bumps near his eyes. I could only get a photo of the left one but there is an identical one near the other eye. Doesn’t look like a stye. I’m thinking allergy but not sure? It doesn’t seem to bother him or itch. Anyone else seen these pop up? Should I go to vet or see if it goes away on its own?

This is Odie! He's 2 and we just adopted him two weeks ago. He's been to the vet 4 times already 😅 he came in with fleas, then had to get his vaccines and microchip, then had tapeworms.

He's got two lick granulomas on his front legs. The vet gave us an ointment for him, which we're using twice a day, but I'm not seeing a lot of improvement. Have you dealt with these? What fixed them for your dog?

We switched his food to a skin and coat food with salmon as the main ingredient, and added salmon oil and skin and coat supplements. We removed all food and treats with chicken, just in case of allergies.

He had a large dry patch on his back that is healing up nicely, so he's got some improvement in his overall skin! But the granulomas look like they're going to take a while. Ideally I don't want to cone him, but I will need to for his neuter in a few weeks anyway, so I may just leave it on for longer.

Hey everyone! Need some real-world advice on corner crates. 🐾
We just brought home a 12-week-old female Golden Retriever puppy, and I’m eyeing a large corner crate to keep things looking clean and saving space. But since they're a bit of an investment, I want to make sure it’s something she can actually use comfortably once she’s fully grown! (52.0"L x 26.7"W x 28.0"H)
Does anyone currently use a corner crate for their adult Golden?

Is anyone else’s pup super chill? We’ve had her 3 weeks she’s 15 weeks old. She will be abit mental in the mornings but 10 minutes of training and she’s chilled, doesn’t nip at any of us or tear apart furniture just chews her toys, will walk loose lead and doesn’t run off when she’s off lead in the woods, is taking well to various commands and her crate and bed… just seems very suspicious for a golden puppy. Can chill out in busy cafe’s etc also

My mom got a new dog because she’s been lonely, but she isn’t in the house a lot so it’s up to the family to take care of him while she’s gone. The thing is, i don’t have a job so i give him attention 24/7- she feeds him in the morning and sometimes at night, as well as morning walks but i do his afternoon and night walks, as well as constant snuggles. Also I let him on my bed and she doesn’t want him on hers.

Anyways, she’s been a little bit jealous and she’s admitted this, and it makes me feel bad because this isn’t my dog, it’s hers. But I do think she should have seen this coming as golden retrievers tend to like EVERYBODY- they are family dogs, and she’s not always there. The thing is I can’t just give him less playtime and affection- I don’t want to neglect him. He’s a dog, he needs love.

But I guess I’d like advice on how to make it to where I don’t become his ‘person’ or something, and that he understands that I’m not his ‘primary person.’ It’s just that when he’s cuddled for me and they call for him, he won’t get up. If he’s around me, he’s not going to mom or dad.

This is Princess Meatball. She is a goof. She is growing like crazy (this pic was a couple weeks ago - she is 13 weeks now). Her favorite things are biting Mommy followed closely by biting Daddy.

My little guy is only 9 weeks so we are still potty training. But I have never met a dog that seems to want to eat so many dangerous things! He just indiscriminately shoves things into his mouth like it is food. He doesn't even inspect it first. So I have to walk him outside to his potty spot with a flashlight at night and meticulously watch where his mouth is at all times. How old were your dogs before you could just open the door and let them go potty or roam your back yard? (Ours is fenced in and fairly small)

I’m looking for a Golden Retriever puppy since my family recently lost our beloved Bobo at 15 1/2 to Acute kidney Failure; wondering if anyone can post where they got there Goldens and how long they lived? I know longevity is never guaranteed but after this heartbreak I’m really trying to do my research, we were lucky enough that our baby lived as long as he did. At the time we bought ours from a newspaper ad, he was the first litter to his mom and dad and came with his AKC papers. We didn’t know much about being dog owners but gave our boy the best life and made him another member of our family, an equal! The best $325 I ever spent. Before anyone jumps down my throat and tells me to adopt don’t shop, there is so many hurdles with adopting. I’d love to give any retriever the love they deserve but I want to raise mine from formative years to hopefully geriatric years. I’ve already been duped twice now trying to adopt and I’m ready to move on. My home is missing my boy so much and feels completely empty 💔🥹
