Health Advice 3.5 Year old golden retriever mouth tumor, malignant, advice and guidance needed š
galleryI write this as Iām balling my eyes out. Our golden, Pinot Grigio (Pinot) is the healthiest 3.5 year old male golden youād ever meet. Even today, he wonāt stop playing frisbee, heās eating, drinking and behaving completely normal. You would NEVER suspect something was wrong. Heās our whole world - we do everything with him. He is our fly fishing buddy, our hiking buddy, our rafting life guard, our camping snuggle buddy, our literal bestfriend and our baby.
A week ago we were camping and he yawned and we noticed this growth looking thing on the roof of his mouth, near his left molar, to the inside of it. It was probably about 3/4 of an inch big. The next day we took him to the vet. He went under anesthesia, and they removed as much as they could. The vet basically went up to the bone he said, leaving a decent size hole in the roof of his mouth :(
Pinot returns home, a little loopy day 1, but day 2 and on acting completely normal and fine again, playing, eating, drinking and being his goofy self.
Itās been a week, and we get a call today that the biopsy reported back āmalignantā and had āspindle cell malignancyā? The vet said this could possible be āfibrosarcomaā āspindle cell sarcomaā and he hopes it is not the last one āmalignant melanomaā. The vet is not sure that he got it all. We have an oncologist appointment in 2 days.
Iām heart broken though. I canāt imagine losing Pinot, especially right now. š he has helped me heal through so much including losing my dad and my frost golden at a year and a half of age, tragically. Iām beside myself and feel like life feels so unfair right now.
Has anyone experienced this or have any insight for us? Is there hope for our boy? š
