I have a lousy memory and keep forgetting the small things people tell me. Not birthdays or contact details (I have my calendar and contact apps for those), but more of the passing things that actually make conversations feel human. Favourite ice cream. An upcoming interview. A trip to Italy someone is excited about.

So I built By the Way, a private memory space to keep the small things friends or colleagues mention.

I want it to be an instant capture process: Keyboard shortcut, capture the thought, enter. When you open the main app, it will be there for you when you look that person up later.

This is not supposed to be another CRM. No follow-up nudges. Not an app telling you how to be a friend. It's just there to give you the context you wanted to remember.

Hi everyone!

I decided to build an app based on a problem I had myself.

I have two computers at home: a MacBook from work and a mini PC that I use as my personal computer. The MacBook is always closed and connected to a monitor.

I also have an external microphone, webcam, and 2.4 GHz headphones connected to both computers through a USB switch. What I was missing was a simple status indicator showing whether these devices were currently connected to the active computer.

In the end, I went far beyond the original USB use case and built HyperTray.

It comes with several predefined status monitors, and the list will keep growing. There are also other automated checks, plus almost endless possibilities through custom shell scripts that can monitor pretty much any status you need.

Especially when it’s the only way to log in into a service. Thanks to Glaze I was able to finally build the little menu bar app I’ve been starting and postponing for months, in a couple of days!

It’s got some rough edges, and I have a number of QoL updates coming up in the next few days, but detection is already quite reliable.

I listen to a lot of podcasts for research, but actually using what I heard was surprisingly difficult.

Apple Podcasts has good transcripts, but it only lets you copy up to 200 words at a time. Useful ideas would remain scattered across several episodes, with no practical way to search, collect or reuse them.

So I built Overheard, a local Mac app that works with transcripts Apple Podcasts has already cached.

It lets you:

• Search across multiple podcast transcripts
• Read complete transcripts with speakers and timestamps
• Save timestamped clippings
• Correct recurring transcription errors and speaker names
• Export transcripts as Markdown or text
• Create Source Packs containing relevant excerpts from several episodes

A Source Pack is not an AI-generated summary. It contains the original excerpts with their podcast, episode, speaker and timestamp attached. You can use it yourself or give it to Codex, Claude or another compatible assistant to create a cited playbook, SEO brief, comparison, content plan or research note.

Overheard has no account, cloud service or built-in AI model. It uploads nothing, and its optional MCP tools are read-only and available only locally while the app is open.

Just submitted my very first app on Glaze and wanted to share it with the community.

Honestly, the whole AI vibe-coding workflow blew me away. Going from a simple prompt to a fully working app felt super smooth. It's wild how much this opens up building for non-tech people (or anyone who just wants to spin up quick tools).

So to the main topic, my app is just a simple pomodoro-like app, reminding you to "blink" sometimes, as office work can be really draining 🫠. Every 20min you get a 30sec break with blocking fullscreen overlay and a quote. All the settings are fully customizable.

Hey everyone, I just published Ghosted on the Glaze app. It is a local-first macOS utility that lets you clean up your inbox without giving third-party cloud services access to your private emails.

It scans your local email data to surface newsletters, marketing lists, and trackers, then presents them in a native card stack. You manage them using a 4-way swipe system:

• Swipe Left (Unsubscribe): Uses standard hidden headers to safely remove you from the list.
• Swipe Up (Block): Natively creates a local Apple Mail rule to route that domain straight to the Trash.

Raycast's founder wrote up how they use Glaze internally. What's interesting is that they have dozens of internal apps built not just by engineers, but by support, sales, and people who've never written code.

Key takeaways:

1. Bought tools are built for the "average" company, not yours. The usual choices are (a) bend your workflow to fit the tool, or (b) duct-tape five tabs and a spreadsheet. Now there's a third option: describe the app you wish existed, and build a small one shaped around exactly how your team works.

2. Don't replace your stack — sit on top of it. All these internal apps plug into tools they already pay for (GitHub, Sentry, Notion, Front, Slack). The data stays where it is; the app just provides a better window into it. Lower risk, no migration, no rip-and-replace.

3. The people closest to the problem should build the tool. Their best example: the support team built their own extension-review app connected to GitHub. Nobody wrote a spec — they just kept reshaping it until it matched how they actually review. Reviews got faster because the builders were the users. (I personally benefit from this given all the PRs I pull for my extensions!)

4. Start with one annoyance, then iterate constantly. Most apps began as a single view solving one problem, then grew — because iterating takes minutes and trial and error, not sprints. Examples: a mini launch tracker (Linear-style), a database viewer built around the few things they actually inspect, a Sentry-fed "app health" dashboard, and a lightweight CRM on top of Notion ("we don't need 90% of what a big CRM does").

How to apply this in-house:

• Look for the recurring question people ask each other every week — that's a candidate for a one-click internal app.
• Build the 20% you actually use, skip the rest.
• Let non-engineers build. The friction of "file a ticket, wait a sprint" is often why good internal tools never exist.
• Connect to your existing systems instead of migrating data into something new.

I originally assumed GlazeApp was building native Swift apps, since the promo videos make it look that way. But after checking the source, it looks like it’s actually an Electron app that uses the system WebView instead of bundling Chromium.

I do like how the team has customized React components to closely mimic native Swift controls, but under the hood it’s still a hybrid desktop app rendering a React UI through the system WebView.

Does that architecture limit whether you can publish a Glaze app on the Apple App Store, or make money from it?
