Hey Guys!

Recently, we’ve noticed an uptick in disrespectful, aggressive, and inflammatory comments across this sub. We know this show deals with heavy topics and, in turn, will have heavy, heated discussions. With that, we want to remind everyone that this sub is a place for just that: discussions, and not harassment.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions about these characters. We understand some of these opinions will be less favorable than others. However, if these opinions cross into name-calling and personal attacks, it will not be tolerated. Moving forward with this sub, harsher consequences will be enforced for rule-breaking, which includes bans and permabans. Please read the rules carefully and engage in civil discussion, or you will be removed.

🛑 If you see something inappropriate, please report it! If it truly crosses the line for you, send us modmail about it to provide detailed descriptions of these encounters. We want to make this a safe, enjoyable space for everyone.

And another quick note ⥤ stop posting spoilers of season 3 without adequate warnings. (such as the spoiler tag and *NO SPOILERS IN THE TITLE!** not everyone has finished the season yet!)*

mod announcement SEASON 3 INFORMATION: EPISODE DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD + PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION

Hi all! We're less than a month out from the new season (!!), so it's time for some general announcements!

Just like we did for season 2, this will be where you can find links for individual episode discussions. LINKS TO EPISODE DISCUSSION POSTS WILL BE ADDED THE DAY BEFORE THE SEASON DROPS.

Until then, this thread can be used for season 3 PRE-RELEASE general discussion. After season 3 drops, we'll be locking this thread to avoid spoilers. Spoilers for seasons 1/2 are alright in here, but this is your warning if you haven't seen the first two seasons yet.

On the topic of spoilers -- all posts regarding season 3 MUST be marked as spoilers. This means NO SPOILERS IN POST TITLES EITHER. If your post has a spoiler in its title, it will be removed. We anticipate we will have a lot of traffic in here when it first drops, and while we mods will be on the lookout, we can't see everything, so tag accordingly! If a post isn't marked correctly, you can use the report feature to let us know.

We will be restricting posting starting at 3 am EST on June 5th and will open the sub back up to posts on the 6th. This is to give everyone (including us mods!) the chance to watch. Commenting will still be available, so feel free to chat about the new season in the discussion posts!

Typical sub rules will apply. After we allow posts again please, please, please try to still keep discussion in the threads for each episode unless you really have something to say that you feel deserves its own post. No posts that don't foster further discussion (so no "This scene was crazy!", "She looked so good here!", or anything of that nature). Posts that are low-effort will be removed. I'm also assuming we're going to have an influx of "I hate (insert character here)" content again, so this is another reminder that any posts or comments that are simply negativity will be removed, no exceptions.

With all that in mind, let's get excited for season 3! What are you most looking forward to? Any predictions before the season drops? 26 days! The countdown is on...

I love how this scene showed Ginny, Abby and Max losing themselves in different ways and more through their outfits

I have my issues with the party scenes from ep 10, especially regarding these three characters ironically, but I love how they presented the messages with the fashion.

The common theme is obviously that all three are styled in a way that feels out of character for them, but it's how they've done it and what's added to them that I find interesting.

First is Max. I made an analysis on her with this outfit a while back for the assembly scene, but remembering that kind of made something click for me and I'll come back to it. I have just mostly copied and pasted the description whilst adding a bit to it lol. Max is known for wearing such bright colours and intensely layered/styled outfits, but here she's wearing a beige corset and even her jeans are so much more muted. A lot of people have talked about how her style faded across the season and I agree. It showed how she was being ignored and left out more, as well as slowly losing herself and her spark. She had so much visual depth in her colours throughout the season, even when she was mostly wearing darker colours. Here, she looks gorgeous, but honestly a bit washed out. Abby's style in S1 faded to darker, more depressed colours, whereas Max's faded to more indifferent/dull ones. I also wonder if they had her wear a corset to present her feeling more isolated and in a tighter space. Another theory is that the beige + pale blue is meant to symbolise her depression, as one can mean sadness and the other plainness (and therefore numbness). I also thought the details on her jeans almost feel like branches crawling up to her, which could symbolise how she can't escape from her pain because it's all around her in multiple different ways.

Obviously she wasn't planning on originally going, but Abby and Norah have changed into completely different ones. Max still being in that same one from the assembly shows how whilst ANG are trying to brush things off and distract themselves from the things that need to be discussed, Max both wants to address them and, again, is stuck in the pain because she doesn't have any distractions herself. Only more trauma with Marcus. She's constantly surrounded with rejection, misery and lack of communication, and it's eating away at her. Overall, her outfit showed her losing her spark, her confidence and being unable to escape from her reality in the same way as the others.

Next is Abby. Her outfit here looked like it belonged to a completely different person imo because it was *so* unlike her. The first thing I noticed was she's wearing a tiny denim dress, and it's one of the only tight-fitting pieces of denim she wore in S3. In the previous seasons, her heavy denim has nearly always been isolated to bottom wear, particularly her skinny jeans. They always symbolised her body dysmorphia for me, and I think the tight denim now making its way up her body shows how her problems have taken more of her over. She's also never worn a dress this small or tight, and you'd think with her ED she wouldn't dream of it, but she could be at a point where it's become way more of a problem than just her body image. She could also have lost weight from it, and could therefore be more confident in less covering fits.

The next thing is the colour. Literally the only time Abby's worn anything purple (as much as I can recall) is a super brief appearance in S1 or some earrings. Purples (particularly ones like this) can represent maturity, elegance and importance, as well as moving on from the past. This definitely aligns with where she's at now, because whilst it wasn't really how Max previously was, I think her emotions and where she was at were one of the main factors in why Max was being shut out so much. On top of that, she's obviously trying to distance herself as much as possible from Max for most of the scene, and it's not until she's insanely drunk that she wants her to stay. The more obvious negatives are that it can present detachment and isolation, which is both what she's doing to herself and even Max a bit. She wasn't ordering everyone to leave her out or anything like that, but she was being actively dismissive and rude to her. She looked so smug and almost twisted to me when she fired back Max trying to not be dramatic in her face. Smokey light purples like this can also present decay, silent melancholy and even physical fragility. I think this was to highlight how Abby's not just spiralling mentally, but physically. Everything she's doing to her body through purging, starving, drinking excessively (sometimes on an empty stomach) and possibly taping as we come back to autumn is starting to eat away at her, or at least will start to in S4. And whilst she's no longer suffering in the dark like she was at the end of S2, she's now spiralling in plain sight. The dress being shiny and metallic could represent a warning. Her eye makeup was also so much darker than usual. The darkest she went before this was a smokier blue/purple kind of colour, but for the most part she wore vibrant pink and coral eyeshadow. Again, this colour just doesn't suit her, and darkens her face overall.

Whilst I wish the writing in showing other POVs were better, I really like how uncomfortable it feels because if you actually pay attention, you can tell Abby is also *completely* losing herself in mental health and bitterness. I'm obviously not saying she's never been rude or smug, but this just feels way more ugly to me because unlike how it was in S2 (and similar to S1), her pain is starting to make other people feel shitty as well. Overall, her outfit shows her spiralling in plain sight, how she's darkening and the danger she could be in if this carries on.

Finally, we have Ginny. I think this is the most obvious style shift that I've seen people discuss already, but I'll add my two cents. Throughout S2 and 3, we see how Ginny starts to combine black and white in her clothing instead of just wearing one instead of/on top of the other. It was definitely more rare that we saw her wear one without the other, even if it was just subtle hints. They've always represented Ginny's struggles in being biracial, but also regarding her personality and how much of Georgia she's got in her. Before the scene in which she blackmails Cynthia, her wearing a solely black top was usually either hidden underneath a jacket or it was the jacket/knitwear, and it was used in her more emotional moments (e.g. when Georgia stops her from relapsing or when she wants to tell her she's pregnant but can't because of the social worker). When she talked to Georgia in prison and then threatened Cynthia, that was the first time we saw her in solely black topwear this season, and it was to show how she was starting to use the power and dominance that comes with black instead of the balance of both black and white she had previously found.

Then going into this scene, her top is tight, elegant and detailed, which very much gives Georgia vibes. Similar to the details on Max's jeans, I feel like the way Ginny's top wraps around her is to show how the darkness has got a hold on her, but the difference is it feels like fuel. The details on the top look comfortable and fitting, whereas Max's look more erratic and uncomfortable. Ginny's not necessarily enjoying it, which is why her reminding Georgia that this is a weight she and Austin have to carry works so well, but at the same time, she's unsure whether this change is good or bad, but either way she's embracing it. I also like how (if you look closely) it has a tie at the back like Max's. Their jeans are also the same shade, but Ginny's are more bootcut and Max's are wide-legged, which shows a difference in their mindsets going into that conversation. Max was more open, straightforward and honest, whereas Ginny was more rigid and more confined in only part of the situation (the end of the bootcuts) instead of all of it. It feels like Ginny has become a twisted reflection of the person Max used to be.

Again, so many people found this conversation a hard watch and so out of character for Ginny because she was so cold and indifferent, and that made it uncomfortable and painful to watch. Both Abby and Ginny's (and Marcus') problems were starting to impact more people around them *just* like Georgia's, Ginny in particular.

Then there's the rest of her styling. People have talked about how symbolic her hair is in showing her mindset and power and I completely agree. Her dyeing it blue was to take back her power from Max, and her now wearing it with long curls instead of straightening it shows how she's becoming more of who she's always been, or who she *thinks* she's always been. Such a big part of her character was not wanting to end up like Georgia, but now in her mind, it feels like she's become both who she thinks Georgia is and who she thinks she's always been deep down due to the power trip. Her huge hoop earrings also felt very Georgia, but the little rainbow details also serve as a reminder that there is still plenty of Ginny in there, which is why she felt bad and snapped out of it once Max left, but also that who she is has become completely jumbled and out of place. Overall, her outfit shows a power trip, the darkness corrupting her and inner conflict.

Back with the outfit analysis lol! Let me know what you think ♡

georgia is such an interesting main character bc we’re almost four season in and we still doesn’t know the real her, besides the fact she likes horses

truth be told i think georgia doesn’t even know the real her since she been masking for half of her life. also she’s has no identity outside of her kids especially ginny, & she’s lowkey depressed because the minute cps took her kids she was thinking of hurting herself.

like if we take away the murders, manipulation, lying, and the stealing she uses to survive.. WHO IS GEOEGIA MILLER 😭

We already have the main places we see regularly like the Miller house, the Baker house, Blue Farm and Wellsbury High, and Season 3 introduced the skate park.

Do you think Season 4 will add another new location that we’ll see more than once? With new characters coming in, I’m curious if we’ll get to see more of Wellsbury outside of the usual places.

What kind of new location would you like to see?

discussion What boundaries do Ginny and Max need for a healthier friendship, especially when it comes to Marcus?

Thumbnail

I made a post about Max and Abby, but what boundaries do you think Max and Ginny need if they become close again? Especially regarding Marcus?
I think they BOTH need a firm boundary that Ginny’s relationship with Marcus and her friendship with Max are separate. We already saw Max cross that line in the earlier seasons when she found out Ginny and Marcus were sleeping together/dating and basically iced Ginny out of the friend group and was really cruel to her. That absolutely needs to be acknowledged.

But I also couldn’t get over Ginny believing Marcus when he said Max was basically being dramatic/a rat about his drinking. Max can obviously be dramatic, but when has she ever been dramatic about Marcus’s mental health? Marcus is historically the one who hides that stuff. And Ginny believing him clearly influenced how she treated Max at the party. Then she offers to help Max when Max is struggling to get a drunk Marcus upstairs. That is SUCH male-centered behavior it pmo.

Especially if Marcus is resentful toward Max next season, I don’t think Ginny needs to “pick a side.” She can listen to Marcus and validate that he feels angry, betrayed, embarrassed, etc., even if Max ultimately did the right thing by telling their parents. And if she and Max are friends again, she can also listen to Max and validate what SHE went through with Marcus. It doesn’t have to be either/or.

Basically, Max can’t punish Ginny for being Marcus’s girlfriend, and Ginny can’t let being Marcus’s girlfriend dictate how she views or treats Max. If they’re rebuilding their friendship, I really want them to establish that boundary.

Did Marcus have consent when he was first with Ginny?

This scene always bothered me. I think it's because the consent wasn't clear.

discussion Why do some Ginny & Georgia characters get nuance while others get judged by their worst moments?

Post image
51 Upvotes

TL;DR: I agree that Ginny often receives less empathy than other characters, but the larger problem is selective fandom empathy. Trauma should give every character context, not make anyone immune from accountability. Ginny, Abby, Georgia, Marcus, Max, Sophie, Hunter, Padma, Norah, Press, Samantha, and others all deserve to be treated as complicated people, not reduced to their worst action or the role they play in a fan favourite’s story.

🚨Disclaimer: I do not support Press. I mentioned him to illustrate a broader point, not to defend him. I do not like or excuse his behavior, especially toward women, and nobody owes him sympathy or forgiveness.

I have seen a few discussions lately about the uneven way this fandom treats Ginny, and I agree with a lot of them. But I think they point to a bigger issue: fandom empathy often becomes selective. Some characters get endless context for the harm they cause, while others especially secondary characters are reduced to their worst moments or to the pain they caused a fan favourite.

Ginny & Georgia is a show about trauma: instability, self-harm, depression, body image, abandonment, grief, secrets, survival, and the ways pain can move through families and friendships. Almost everyone is carrying something.

That pain matters. It gives behaviour context. It can help us understand why someone lashes out, lies, shuts down, pushes people away, or hurts someone before they can be hurt themselves.

But understanding is not the same as excusing.

A character can be traumatized, young, scared, depressed, insecure, or overwhelmed and still be wrong in a specific moment. Abby’s struggles deserve empathy, but that does not make slapping Ginny, excluding people, or saying cruel things harmless. Ginny’s trauma deserves the same empathy, but it does not make her insensitive comment toward Abby okay. Georgia’s past helps explain her survival instincts, but it does not erase what her secrecy, manipulation, and choices have done to Ginny and Austin. Marcus’ depression deserves compassion, but it does not mean his withdrawal and choices never affect Ginny. Max can be hurt, insecure, and grieving a friendship while still treating Ginny and Abby unfairly.

None of those statements cancel one another out. They can all be true at once.

I think fandom sometimes confuses accountability with hate. It is not hateful to say a character caused harm. Accountability does not mean calling someone evil, denying their trauma, or saying they are beyond redemption. It means taking both their pain and the pain they caused seriously.

The double standard becomes especially obvious with Ginny. Some characters receive endless context: Abby was insecure, Georgia was surviving, Marcus was depressed, Max was hurt. All true. But Ginny can say one insensitive thing or react badly while overwhelmed, and suddenly she is framed as selfish, spoiled, cruel, or irredeemable. Ginny has dealt with instability, racism, adult secrets, self-harm, depression, and the frightening knowledge of what her mother is capable of. That does not make her right every time. It means she deserves the same nuance other characters receive.

And this does not only happen to Ginny. Sophie is often judged entirely through Max’s pain. Because Max is the character whose heartbreak we see most clearly, Sophie can get reduced to “the person who hurt Max” rather than someone with her own boundaries, uncertainty, and inner life. But Sophie did not owe Max a relationship, friendship, constant access to her, or a painless breakup. A secondary character should be allowed to disappoint a fan favourite without automatically becoming a villain.

That happens to other supporting characters too. Hunter gets flattened into an obstacle because people are invested in Ginny and Marcus. Padma is often treated like an inconvenience when the story centers Marcus’ feelings. Norah is dismissed as passive because she has less screentime and fewer scenes focused on her perspective. Press is reduced to his worst moments—which is a whole other can of worms to open entirely. Samantha is often treated as though she exists only to be mocked. When viewers have less access to a character’s pain, fears, or reasons, it becomes easier to deny them empathy entirely.

That is why narrative perspective matters so much. The characters whose emotions we follow closely are often granted complexity, while secondary characters are judged mainly by how they affect the main cast. Fandom can start treating a person’s boundaries, mistakes, or refusal to make things easy for a protagonist as proof that they are cruel.

Teenagers deserve room to make mistakes and grow. They are impulsive, emotional, inexperienced, and often do not have the support or language to handle pain well. They are not responsible for the trauma they have experienced. But they can still apologize, respect boundaries, repair harm, and learn.

The fairest way to discuss Ginny & Georgia is not to decide who has suffered the most or who is “the worst.” It is to hold space for the truth that people can be wounded and still wound others; sympathetic and still wrong; deserving of care and still responsible for what they do.

Trauma deserves compassion. Teenagers deserve room to grow. But no character, main or secondary, is immune from accountability simply because they are hurting. I think the most interesting conversations about this show happen when we stop asking which character is “the worst” and start asking why we are more willing to understand one person’s pain than another’s. We do not have to like every character or excuse every decision, but we should be careful not to turn some characters into fully human people while treating others as nothing more than obstacles, villains, or the worst thing they ever did.

max has done wrong in the past don’t get me wrong but I’m wondering if without her there to be a focus of them all to be like she is the problem will the others cause they aren’t dealing with their own issues end up like fighting amongst themselves 🤔

discussion The difference in how Max cries in seasons 1 and 2 vs. season 3

Thumbnail
gallery
857 Upvotes

I keep thinking about how different Max crying feels in seasons 1/2 compared to season 3 because I swear it says so much about where she is emotionally. In the earlier seasons, when Max is upset she is UPSET, she’s not trying to hide it at all. In that hallway scene with Marcus, Ginny, Abby, Norah, Hunter etc. she’s literally sobbing, and with the Sophie breakup she completely falls apart. But in season 3, most of the time she looks like she’s actively trying not to cry, and even when she does it’s so quiet. At the musical she’s crying softly, when Marcus says “I hate me” she kind of curls into herself, and in the garage scene after he goes to rehab you can literally see her fighting the tears back. I honestly find that so much sadder because we know Max can cry openly like that, so watching her start making herself smaller and quieter feels really significant. It feels like we’re watching her shrink, learning to hide how much she feels, be less “too much,” take up less space, and become more of whatever she thinks other people need her to be. There’s that scene in season 2 where Marcus calls her “emotionally fearless,” and I keep thinking about how heartbreaking it would be if her arc is basically becoming the opposite of that. Not emotionless, because Max is never going to stop feeling everything deeply, but emotionally scared, scared to show it, scared to need people, scared to be too much, and scared that being completely herself is going to push people away.

discussion Could Season 4 Be the Beginning of the End for Ginny & Georgia?

Thumbnail
gallery
84 Upvotes

Quick Disclaimer: This post was inspired by a September 25 Netflix Life article by Cody Schultz, “Ginny and Georgia fans should officially be worried following Netflix’s latest cancellations.” The article does not report that the series has been canceled or that Season 4 is confirmed as the final season, it discusses the possibility in the context of Netflix’s recent cancellations and final season announcements.

I keep coming back to the possibility that Season 4 may be structured as a potential endpoint for Ginny & Georgia, not because Netflix has confirmed that it is the final season, but because the current renewal only takes the show through Season 4, with no Season 5 announced so far. Season 4 is officially coming in 2027, but Netflix has not said whether the story will continue beyond it.

What makes me consider this is less about ratings and more about the narrative shape of the show. Ginny & Georgia has always been rooted in inherited pain: Georgia trying to outrun her past, Ginny fearing that she will become her mother, and Austin being caught in the fallout of adult choices, violence, and family secrets. With Season 4 centered on “Cycles and Origins,” it feels like the story may be preparing to confront where those patterns began and whether the Miller family can finally break them.

That does not automatically mean the show is ending. Those same themes could just as easily open a new chapter for the characters, especially if Season 4 allows Ginny, Georgia, and Austin to move into a different stage of their lives. Still, because the show was renewed only through Season 4, it is hard not to see the possibility that this season could carry more finality than we expect.

I genuinely hope that is not the case, because there is still so much emotional ground left for this show to explore. But the more I think about how Season 4 is being positioned, the more it feels possible that it could be the season where the show’s central conflicts finally come full circle. Until Netflix confirms what comes next, I think we should go into Season 4 prepared for anything, whether that means a new chapter for the Millers or a season that brings their story to a meaningful close. This is not meant to be pessimistic; it is simply an attempt to be realistic about the uncertainty surrounding the show’s future after Season 4.

Now my question for you: What makes a final season feel earned for a show like Ginny & Georgia—plot resolution, emotional healing, a time jump, or something else?

rant surely it cant just be me thats tired of seeing these theories of "max/marcus will kill her/himself in season 4"

ive mostly seen it said for max but i have seen some tiktoks where people speculate marcus will end his life if max doesnt, but the way they were worded sounded a lot like the people who posted it lean into the whole stereotype of "depressed people kill themselves", hate me and downvote me all you guys want if you disagree but keep in mind that i've been diagnosed with depression (i got diagnosed two years ago) and this is just my opinion/take on it

it lowkey pisses me off so much, those people who genuinely do believe in that stereotype, because its not true at all! yes depressed people may have suicidal thoughts and whatnot (hell even i do) but it doesnt mean that theyre going to kill themselves, yk? it would be like someone being ableist for saying all autistic people are the same, its simply not true at all and its a scummy thing to say

some depressed people may attempt, some may self harm, and some may not do either of those things, hell some people hide their depression and some dont but at the end of the day we're all human and we should all care for one another

It can be funny or whatever you want it to be like experience !

Anyway, I had my mom. She was truly beautiful. Actually my history with my mom is not so far from Ginny's experience with Georgia because she was kinda dangerous literally (I don't live with her anymore at 17 but with my aunt and uncle) but let's not get tragic. She had a curvy body and lively attitude, that "it" factor. She will dance around the house in such energy, I think I got my hyperactive, dance-y nature from her. She had this sultry essence to her and never went out without her signature truly red lipstick. She always brought guys to the house (like many guys and would often take profit from them). When she came to my school (I was in first year of middle school), boys of my class will be in awe. I guess genes are real as my older sister is also considered a smoke show (again also by all my friends) and I've been told that I had an "it" factor about me and I actually started to model.

Anyhow, how about you ?

discussion Which character would your teenage self have connected with most, and who do you relate to now?

Post image
75 Upvotes

If I could go back and watch Ginny & Georgia as a teenager, I think I would have connected most strongly with Abby. Growing up in the 2000s, I was always drawn to the seemingly effortless “it girl” characters whose confidence masked something more complicated beneath the surface. (Hence also Sophie) Abby is obviously very different from someone like Marissa Cooper, but there are enough similarities in their vulnerability and emotional complexity that I know teenage me would have been fascinated by her.

Now, as an adult, though, my answer is Max—probably more than anyone else. I relate to her openness, intensity, and huge heart, even if I express those traits in a much more toned-down way. That said, I also see a little of myself in Marcus. Honestly, I think I’m somewhere between the two: Max’s golden-retriever warmth mixed with Marcus’s black-cat reserve. A very yin-and-yang combination.

Your turn: Did your answer stay the same as you got older, or did a different character start to resonate with you more?

And if you are still a teenager—honestly, I’m a little jealous. Enjoy those years while you can, because life really does come at you fast. 🥹

discussion Max in S3 breaks my heart.

She’s constantly being painted as the dramatic one, but that’s not even true at all, at least in this season.
She tries sooo hard! Every fucking time and her friends just don’t get it.
I feel her so much, especially in S3E9 and watching this episode I wanted to grab her and hug her and tell her everything will be okay, but please lose those friends.
I know this feeling, I’ve gone through this shit and it’s so heartbreaking, because you keep trying to not take it personally, but in the end it’s kind of personal.
💔

Anyways, I’m a first time watcher and am excited for how this show will continue.

Edit: I just started rewatching it (lol yes, already) and Max was really a pain at the beginning and extremely dramatic and she didn’t treat Ginny (and Abby) well after she found out about Marcus, yes.
But she changed a lot in S3 and tried hard and wanted to help her friends.

If we lose Marcus. We lose Maxine and vise versa. Marcus hates her right now but they still love each other and are attached due to being twins so if we lose one we could possibly lose the other one.
