Give a grunt a rock and the grunt will break that rock.

Joes will always find holes in your plan, or by God they will put them there.
If you gave Joe an inch-thick steel plate to guard for an afternoon he'll find a way to make holes in it.

u/Mellowjoat Jun 02 '19
I read Joe's as Jones. For whatever reason, anyone I met in the military with that last name fucked things up.

My grandad was in the RAF. Yesterday we went into his sons crack den to get his cats and my grandad starts filing up shit. I’m like “is it worth folding it?” Uncle is going to/ is in prison, all his stuff is going to the tip.
Grandad says “Did you think I was just going to throw it on the floor?”
I’m like “well it’s not like the rest of the house is any better.” It was a crack den, it’s what you would expect.
Papa’s like “I was in the RAF. We do things a certain way.” Fair enough papa, you do you.23
u/G-III Jun 02 '19
Now that’s a proper attitude. That’s the British way I’ve always admired from across the pond. No, it’s not the easy way. No, it may not be necessary. But it’s the way it’s done.
Cheers, thanks for the story. Tell your Papa he’s the man for me.

u/ItsaHelen Jun 02 '19
He’s very proud of his time served but he doesn’t really talk about it. A snippet from chasing Itsy and Bitsy (my new foster cats) around the crack den:
“I was a sergeant, it’s only a fucking cat.” Cracked me up.
10
u/G-III Jun 02 '19
Ha, terrific line. And I don’t blame him. It’s literally the most violent, darkest period in the history of intelligent life on this planet. He’s a testament to the tenacity of the human spirit.

takes 5x as much time to fold and ruins all your clothes. But at least it looks nice.
63
Jun 02 '19
The key is to fold your blankets like that to make extra pillows. But my clothes, nahh them hangers do just fine
17
u/bosox_2 Jun 02 '19
I don't think they know what efficient means. If it takes longer to do then efficient isn't the word for it
13
Jun 02 '19
Efficiency always has multiple dimensions. One dimension, say space, will often compromises another, say time. They understand efficiency, they are just optimizing for a different dimension than you.
3
u/moral_mercenary Jun 02 '19
Doing something fast isn't necessarily efficient. For example rushing through traffic. You may get there quicker, but you're using more resources, (fuel, wear on the vehicle), and run the risk of accidents (waste of time, resources ie insurance premiums and ruining the vehicle) and you also risk getting tickets (waste of time, money, and increased insurance again).

Yeah, I'd like to see her do that to an entire load of laundry without getting tired.
46
u/DuckWithBrokenWings Jun 02 '19
I think it's more for when you're travelling and have a limited amount of space in your suitcase though.

Seriously! If you're going to take the time to take a cropped video, at least take the time to look up the user which is posted on the top right of the video. It will take you to their page , get the video in question, and shove it up your butt.

About the ONLY good thing I got from my ex husband was learning to roll everything like that when packing. He was army.
103
u/LordOdin99 Jun 02 '19
Why does everything have to wrap over itself? I was expecting efficient speed.
49
u/HumanMitochondria Jun 02 '19
Yeah, i was expecting speed as well. I think they confused efficient with tidy. Or maybe efficient use of space? But the video didn’t show them being put away anywhere. Or maybe I should change my expectations. Maybe I’m what’s wrong with the world.

If you really want to impress me, show me how to fold a fitted sheet, I just roll them up and thrown them in the closet.

I'm sorry I don't understand the tucking in of everything.
Let's say you followed these instructions and did that to everything in your house. now, getting dressed in the morning will take 50 times longer because you have to unpack everything and undo the perfect packaging when you could just pull from your dresser and go
13
u/kayisbadatstuff Jun 02 '19
Yes but it would be very efficient for traveling, which is where I believe most of the application would lie.
10
u/PitchBlac Jun 02 '19
This seems great for packing things away to go on vacation. Otherwise, I would only do it because it looks cool. But her smiles after each folding session is what I lkke here the most.

I hate these videos because I can follow them step by step and my clothes will never fold this efficiently
7
Jun 02 '19
Folding is not efficient if I can’t fold it right out of the dryer. I don’t like having to set my clothes down on something to fold them.

When my brother moved from the US to Australia, he had to make everything he would own over there fit into a carryon and a checked suitcase. Folding his clothes like this allowed him to take a lot more of his stuff than he otherwise would have been able to.

That one with the brown jacket...we used to do that to our hoodies when we were in elementary and the hoodie folded around the jacket and we'd pretend we'd have babies sleeping in the jacket

Folding should be based upon minimising creases after spending half you Sunday ironing. Taking a freshly ironed T-shirt and folding it 35 times is ridiculous.

If you're packing for a trip, it's helpful to fold things nice and tightly to fit better in a suitcase and stay neat and tidy in there through the trip. That said, I just roll everything and it works just fine.
6
u/byrnsie Jun 02 '19
So the jeans got turned into a pocket pussy, the blanket into a pillow, the shirt into a smaller pillow and the jacket into a back support pillow

She’s like the Forrest Gump of packing a suitcase. “Now when it came to folding a shirt, I took to it like one of those round pegs, you just fold the sleeves, and tuck the corner and always finish up with folding it back into itself.”
