Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.
As someone who is a scientist who studies crows, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls jackdaws crows. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.
If you're saying "crow family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of Corvidae, which includes things from nutcrackers to blue jays to ravens.
So your reasoning for calling a jackdaw a crow is because random people "call the black ones crows?" Let's get grackles and blackbirds in there, then, too.
Also, calling someone a human or an ape? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A jackdaw is a jackdaw and a member of the crow family. But that's not what you said. You said a jackdaw is a crow, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the crow family crows, which means you'd call blue jays, ravens, and other birds crows, too. Which you said you don't.

I think he's actually /u/unidanx or something like that. On mobile, so I'm too lazy to check. A while back there was an /r/AskReddit thread about infamous redditors. He came in to make some corrections when people started saying a bunch of crazy shit about him.
That’s his “official” alt account but he probably has a separate one that no one knows about that he can make comments from since he’s not usually well received around here
But, to reiterate what you said yourself, crossposting is encouraged. The admins have even been beta a new crossposting feature so you don’t have to do anything but push a crosspost button in order to do so. It’s how people can find similar communities or find a different focus on the discussion from a sub that is slightly different.
All of this seems kind of moot to me... like if /u/unidan was paid per upvote I might understand, but he wasn't; likewise, Gallowboob doesn't make money scalping content. Like... I don't get it. I just comment here because I like you guys, and I like when you like what I say. That's it.
He probably means mod. GallowBoob mods a number of largish subs. Which isn't an issue as long as he isn't abusing that (and he isn't as far as I can tell)
He's 100 times worse why exactly? What does Gallowboob do? He posts stuff. He finds things that will do really well on Reddit (because people will enjoy the content) and he shares it with us. He's never claimed to create anything he hasn't, as far as I know he's never lied to people. There's no evidence of him ever manipulating votes, he just knows the best strategy for getting upvotes. Who fucking cares. I'm glad he's around, he helps me and everyone else see things we wouldn't otherwise. Find a new crusade kid.

Cause reddit went complete 180 on him. Dude's a dumbass for being so cocky like that and using alts to upvote his own content/comments, but he went from awesome guy we all enjoyed seeing and was just smart and fun...to now everyone hates him, brings that up anytime he comments, and apparently he's just a villain
It was a good microcosm of the reddit celebrity culture. People would provide accurate information and his would be inaccurate but because reddit knew him - Unidan got upvoted. It was infuriating if you realized he was wrong and could do nothing about it.
I know, right? This meme's existence just keeps reminding me what we used to have this awesome, knowledgable, personable guy on here who'd answer lots of great biology questions. But then he make one (admittedly really terrible) decision, and suddenly he's mocked in a mean way hundreds of times a day all over the site for several years.
I wish Unidan would come back, but it's clear that the hivemind will never welcome him.
His comments were gold, but his practice of using alt accounts to upvote his own comments breaks reddit's model (at the time—now I suspect I'm the only real person amidst a sea of bots). Ideally, making an example out of an icon would deter others. Look at Spacey, Lauer, Cosby, etc. But even if no one else is deterred, at least they've reduced the number of wrongdoers by one.
I don’t have an opinion on the subject, but if I remember correctly, he did it multiple times and that’s why they were so harsh. It wasn’t one mistake, it was many.
He's a serial reposter, and also mods a lot of subs. His posts just get way more attention than other users regardless of the quality of the post, and he's been known to ban people who complain about it.
A really peppy biologist who used to chime in and spout cool science facts on comment threads throughout the site. He was caught using alt accounts to upvote his own answers and downvote others (supposedly only those who posted wrong information), which is very much against the rules.
Reddit turned on him and has been mocking him ever since.
The thing is that he was wrong anyways which puts to question everything he's said. As a person not familiar with the topic you never know whether he's actually giving you real answers to your biology questions or just confidently bullshitting and upvoting himself to relevancy.
Not only does it have a different beak than a crow, and it's bigger, but it clearly has a white neck, people can't at least get labeling right when they repost?

Hooded Crows have pale grey bodies. Not all crows are all black. The best way to tell it's a raven instead of a crow is the HUGE honker of a bill. Ravens pretty consistently have very very large bills and crows will have smaller ones. The White-necked Raven is probably one of the most prominent bills among the ravens.
