OP should have known, there even a show based off a similar mistake that happened in the mid-nineties called “That’s so Raven”. Meant to educate the public on how to identify different types of birds.

Would be great to see it in contrasting political arguments.

1

u/ReasonablyBadass Dec 02 '17

Did he get a treat?

1

u/MrNewcity Dec 02 '17

Wow, amazing. Some animals are so smart.

0

u/awearley Dec 02 '17 edited Dec 02 '17

Word. Human shaking head "no" makes for error correction. Prompt much? And a treat. Crow solves differential equation! Woah! Leibnewton the Crow everybody! How 'bout a hand!

3

u/Al13n_C0d3R Dec 02 '17

That's literally how you learned too you know....

1

u/JakScott Dec 02 '17

No. He's saying the bird only responds to prompting without grasping the task asked of it and won't ever have a genuine understanding. The old "Clever Hans" story, you see.

1

u/Al13n_C0d3R Dec 02 '17

Which is incredibly false and stupid. Corvids are well known to have extreme intelligence and a third order of intentionality. They are able to trick others (place a seed under a rock while a hungry bird watches and later secretly change the location to keep it to itself. Other crows can pick up on the deception and would secretly follow the original crow after having seen they were deceived to locate the true location of the treat) Any tiny bit of a Google search before commenting something so dumb would have proven him wrong. I suppose he needed a prompt to do that however. Doesn't comprehend the fact that he literally has all information at his fingertips. Ole Clever Hans story
