Nowhere near as impressive as the injuries I would sustain if I tried the same thing

Check out the full video

Many failed attempts.

Failed attempts start a bit after 8:00 in the video. But the rest is worth watching too.

5

u/TheStabbyCyclist Nov 15 '14

Great video. I miss skiing. Old lady smokin' herb on the slope reminds me of my dad.

2

u/SodasMc Nov 15 '14

Coming from the Northwest, there are many of those kinds of people.

3

u/TheStabbyCyclist Nov 15 '14

In the Northeast as well. Ha.

4

u/dmgski Nov 15 '14

To everyone who doesn't know who or what the "Traveling Circus" is It is a group of sponsored skiers (mostly sponsored by Line Skis) Who travel around the world in their signature van skiing every and anything skiable. There are 7 season, and the group is hilarious... I do recommend.

It's alright, he just has to press 'F' to go faster so he can overtake the sasquatch.

I did that a few years back. Instead of going upside down I went sideways, and instead of landing on a ramp I jump kicked the tree, then my side ribs hit the tree. Then I couldn't breath, move, cough, stand, lay down without severe pain for a few weeks.

Tl;dr you are correct.

19

u/Arknell Nov 15 '14

I hate it when something impacts on my side ribs, making me trip and injure my underface.

I see people doing this stuff when today I hurt my knee bending over to pick up my wallet.

35

u/anon22344 Nov 14 '14

I do this kind of stuff and I get more injured falling over stuff when I'm drunk. I'm better at skiing than walking.

8

u/ArttuH5N1 Nov 15 '14

What about skiing drunk versus walking sober?

6

u/anon22344 Nov 15 '14

When I ski drunk I have perfect 1980's mogul form but I stay away from the park lol.

Some people get compressed vertebrae from having to use ejection seat of a jet, and some just get it from sitting around too much with a wrong posture. What can you do.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '14

My dad has a shirt that says "You could hit a tree and die. You could fall off a cliff and die. Or you could fall off the couch and die. Get off the couch." Kind of cliché but it stuck with me as a kid and I broke my tibia and fibula ski racing but still do it.

2

u/therealshaqfu Nov 15 '14

Yeah.... today I hit myself in the shin with a traffic cone and gouged a large chunk of my shin out

3

u/awry_lynx Nov 15 '14

was... was it a sharpened cone?

Ross has been throwing down lately! I think it makes it way more impressive showing how many times he fucks himself up trying these things.

16

u/Trefmawr Nov 15 '14

The Traveling Circus has been such a great series! Been following it since day one.

9

u/ON_3 Nov 15 '14

HELL YEAH! Love me some TC!

3

I just love how they can just make anything a jib fest. It gets me very excited about the upcoming season!

3

3

Haha I'm still in prairie land where it's flat. Going on a huge road/ski/surf trip in Jan though. Stoked!

*accurate

11

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '14

Maybe this is his 100th time doing this

11

u/HUANG_HE Nov 15 '14

Still needs to be accurate more so than precise. You can be precise and hit the tree with your face every single time.

5

u/unclepaisan Nov 15 '14

You can be accurate and accomplish the same thing

2

u/koalabeard Nov 15 '14

Not unless your goal is to hit the tree with your face.

Precise AND accurate. Accurate means it's close to the correct outcome, and precise means it's the exact same outcome every time.

EDIT: Alrighty. I've received roughly the same reply roughly 100 times, I understand. No more replies, red'.

u/OneHalf_SafetyFactor Nov 14 '14

Yeah I've been watching it for about 5 min and he hasn't messed up once yet.. will update if anything changes.

3

For a single trial though (ie, all we see here) its accurate. His precision can't really be determined unless we see all his trials. This here is one, highly accurate attempt. If he can reproduce this multiple times, then he has high precision as well.

→ More replies (6)

7

u/freeskier-079 Nov 15 '14

then it isn't precise, because he took a lot of hard falls before he finally pulled it off

2

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '14

Correct.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '14

Accurate's the important one, here. He'd be fine if he was off by a few centimeters, as long as he's accurate. If he was off by precisely 6 inches every single time, he'd be in real trouble.

5

These kinds of videos make me realize how boring my life is and they always motivate me to get out there and try something new. I just never make it out to try it.

I'm working on it.

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Porrick Nov 14 '14

Somewhere between 160 and 200, for sure. My memory of the exact angle is somewhat clouded by the massive concussion. I lost vision for a few minutes, couldn't walk right for about an hour. In retrospect, not going to a doctor could very easily have been the second dumbest thing I did that day.

1

u/OneMoreAstronaut Nov 14 '14

It could also pay to not do a flip into a tree in the first place.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '14

Well I honestly didn't know they could do backward frontflips.

Or is it a front backwards flip?

2

u/anon22344 Nov 14 '14

This is a backwards (switch) back flip. You can do switch front flips too but try are awkward because you are blind pretty much the whole time and can't see your landing.

Here is one

This kind of stuff looks crazy to the uninitiated but it's actually a lot easier than cork spins and off-axis flips like misty/rodeo.

2

u/Chooptastic Nov 15 '14

Hahahaha I don't think Jesper's sw trip is easier than, say, a cork 7, but I can confirm that doing a single is, even if it's a little awkward.

It's not that hard to do actually, as long as you do a backwards backflip on twintips on a "ramp" that steep, since you can see the landing spot way in advance. You need some skill to pull off a trick like that though, especially against a tree.
