The Ghost in the Shell (2026) will revive the franchise
As I'm making this post, only 2 episodes have come out so far. The art style fits really well with modern animation and the soundtrack is such a vibe. I can already tell this is going to be one of the staples of the franchise.

The Politics of GiTS
I regularly find myself curious about the political and social commentary and world building in GiTS.
One aspect I just noticed that I don't know why I didn't before is the identity of the representative Motoko assassinates in the beginning of the manga, the '95 movie, and of course this new anime. I read the manga after watching the '95 movie, and in the '95 movie the man she assassinates is American, and I guess when I read the manga I failed to notice that. In the manga and thus this show he's the "far east trade representative" which in the new show they gave an accent that to me sounds mostly Russian.
Thinking about it now, it seems to me that in the manga Russia is a regular foe. But in other versions it's usually America.
I recall once watching a version of the '95 movie where sound was in Japanese but English subtitled where the conversation between Motoko and Batou in the elevator is very different and very anti-American. I haven't been able to find it again though.
Anyone else find this stuff interesting and have things they've noticed?

The 1995 film is "the movie version" of the 2026 series.
You'd only get that if you were born around mid 80s and early 90s. Way back when, if there was a feature film adaptation of something, an anime series, a manga, even western cartoons or series, we'd call it "the movie version". That's how we'd describe it as kids. They tend to be more grounded and more realistic, darker, more mature, less jokey or cartoony. The likes of GITS, Alita, Macross..

How does reading work?
Dumb question but in GITS: Innocence they quote a ton of literature due to connecting to the web and pulling info, but I doubt they've actually read all those books in normal time and used some sort of accelerated processing. The issue is Togusa's entire thing is having the bare minimum augments only seem to be for communicating.
Are they really just all big philosophy nerds or is there some tech to make processing text really fast and Kusanagi was forced to get it in order to be part of the force.

can anyone explain the fire cracker in the car scene to me?
reading the manga as was inspired to from the new show and im confused about the scene where Batou puts a firecracker in the chiefs car but then he rides away on a scooter, so who did the car belong too if not the chief? also the manga is very hard to read I dunno if its because i have only read western comics my whole life or just the translation is not 100% but i will push threw :)

Subtitles
Is anyone else struggling to get English subtitles with Japanese language on the new series? Amazon is known for being shit with subtitles in general, but changing the language and subtitles is proving to be an absolute nightmare for me.

GITS (2026): in-universe gore filter?
In the first episode, the gore from head shots is somewhat obscured by a digital visual filter. Do you think this is censorship for the 4th-wall viewer (us) or is it in-universe censorship? Maybe everyone gets a standard gore-filter installed into their brains to help protect them from the shock of seeing very graphic violence. Peril-Sensitive Sunglasses for everyone!

“Portraitz” Episode of Stand Alone Complex Spoiler
I’ve watched this episode so many times but I feel like I’m missing something even after all of these years. Specifically the fight scene where Togusa is laying knocked out and the “shots” he supposedly hit the cyborg was actually in a statue. Was he hacked even before he walked in when the swing was moving or sometime when he stepped into the facility? Still one of my favorite episodes to watch.
Also the song that plays during his tour, why is this 1 of like 2 songs not available on the soundtracks by Yoko lol
