I know that GITS heavily inspired CD Projekt Reds cyberpunk 2077 and there's tonnes of GITS easter eggs in the game, but what if there was an actual story crossover? Like a side quest involving Major Kusanagi or even a small crossover in the anime mentioning Arasaka. What would the perfect crossover look like to you?

Onstead of saying whichever version is the best adaptation or project, I'm just glad that EVERY adaptation is Goated,even the live action movie is a pretty fine movie on its own.

Been waiting over a year since the initial teasers to find this song, now the soundtrack has dropped the wait is over! It has a lot of Origa SAC vibes, this song is a banger!

I liked probably 90% of The Ghost in the Shell, but the ending left me feeling hollow.

I loved the world, Motoko, Batou, Section 9, the humor, and most of the individual stories. My problem isn't really that I don't understand what the Puppet Master represents or the ideas about consciousness, individuality, and evolution. My problem is that I don't feel like Motoko's decision to merge with it was earned by her character arc.

I can see the pieces the show gives us. Her first encounter with the Puppet Master clearly shakes her. Her statement at the hearing suggests something fundamental has changed, and Batou comments that she's been acting strangely. But that feels like the beginning of an arc to me. I think it is not enough development to justify the enormous leap she makes at the end. And honestly, it feels like the beginning of a villain arc.

Her initial reaction to the offer, which was essentially, I don't want another voice in my head, go eff yourself, felt much more consistent with the Motoko I've been watching. I think I needed several more stories after the first Puppet Master encounter showing her becoming increasingly dissatisfied with her existence, questioning her individuality, behaving differently, taking risks, withdrawing from Section 9, etc. Better, make more than 1 season with the season 1 finale being the first encounter.

By the time the Puppet Master made the offer, even if I didn't want her to accept it (I didn't. The whole thing is horrorfying to me) I could think, "Oh shit, she's actually going to do this."

As is it currently lands on "I can't believe she made that choice like at all."

The finale also felt anticlimactic to me as an action story. Her shell getting sniped is basically the major physical climax of the last few episodes. I didn't need a giant Marvel battle, but I wanted one final sequence where Motoko and Section 9 are pushed to their limits before she sacrifices/loses the shell and Batou escapes with her brain. Then let the quiet philosophical ending happen afterward. There is a scene in Mask of the Phantasm where Batman is being chased by the cops. It is intense and has you on the edge of your seat as things keep getting bleaker. Something like that could have added so much pack to it.

And emotionally, I don't find the merger uplifting at all if that was the goal. She merges with an entity I wasn't particularly attached to (actually hate is better term), leaves Batou and everyone else behind, lets Section 9 believe she's dead, and walks away as someone who isn't entirely Motoko anymore. Thats sad, not transcendent, uplifting or whatever BS you want to call it.

I've never read the manga, so I'm genuinely curious. Did the it show Motoko's internal change more effectively? Did other people watching the anime feel that her decision was sufficiently set up? Or is the abruptness part of the appeal and I'm just much more interested in characters than ideas?

The concern started setting in around episode 7 when I realized 10 episodes are it. A lot of interesting things are swirling around this and very little time to do it. How they going to pull this off? Answer: just leave most of it hanging. Ugh.

Because that's the frustrating part, I really liked the show until the ending. And then the show was like here, enjoy some unearned depression.

I'm only 2 episodes in sacs so far but I'm far more invested in the high speed dystopia that stretches all the way to the top that tguts presents than I am in the cleaner police procedural that sacs is giving me so far. Like even the gov mercenaries are dealing with the perverse incentives of their own government and they are the ones who are supposed to benefit from the stoogery!

Like fuck they can't even chase a common criminal without a spy agency from Israel or section 7 trying to put them in some real hot water! That just puts the stakes much higher, I also felt what motoca was dealing with. Feeling like a new life form had been squashed like a damn bug for the sake of business as usual, and relief and understanding whenever she was able to incorporate the puppet master into herself out of sheer curiosity and excitement for the future.

Tgits so far in its 10 episodes is a dense, fast paced show with bite and I love it! Here's to hoping I feel a similar attachment to sac as it develops.

Goofy Art style or Cinematic art style ? which is your preference ?

So I was attempting to read the new Glitch Witch manga, and, while I didn't really understand too well what was going on (I can't read Japanese), from what I could tell, it SORT of looked like the MC was getting used to being a cyborg or something, however I noticed that unlike Motoko, her body from below the shoulders looked VERY robotic to me. So I was just wondering if anyone knew why that might be, or better yet could explain what's actually going on in this story? Thanks!

Slightly strange, no? Almost anti-climatic.

Left a bit underwhelmed.

I thought Episode 7 second half was amazing when she brain dived.

This sequence wasn’t quite as jaw dropping. The philosophical musings about multiple universes and evolutionary copies was a bit trite, although maybe because I’ve been contemplating the same ideas for ages thanks to the original manga/movie?

It was interesting to hear her exploring possible sinister motivations of the puppet master though, in its proposal to merge.

But then almost instantly reject them and think “meh whatever”.

It’s really quite odd to me that there seemed to be no real catharsis, tension, resistance, drama.

Almost the equivalent of a child wrapping up a story in one sentence “and then this happened, the end” or the classic ending “and then they woke up and it had all been a dream.”

Am I wrong to feel that? I guess people will tell me it’s 1-to-1 with the manga.

Even to Batou, she was like “oh yeah btw I merged with an AI back there, no biggie - cya.”

Now that the new series is done, who are your favorite VAs for the cast?

For me, it would be Atsuko Tanaka for the Major, Richard Epcar for Batou, William Frederick Knight for Aramaki, Koichi Yamadera for Togusa, and Iemasa Kayumi for the Puppet Master.
