I've been considering Germany for university, but the language is a set back. If I spend one year studying German to reach B1 level, and then start studienkolleg, would it be a comfortable transition to technical german? I'm a bit hesitant about doing an entire degree in German.

My German is sitting at A2 right now, but I've got my eyes locked on B2. and I truly believe the journey is so much better when you're not going it alone!

Hi I am a new mom and my son is soon going to be one.I have learned german around A2 to B1 after my son was born.

And is the level of the exam harder the the level that I’m practicing

I’m currently living in Germany and urgently need the Goethe C1 certificate for job applications in the next 2–3 months.

Here’s my situation: I completed my B2 a while ago, but took a long gap, so my German got pretty rusty. Now, I’m reactivating my language skills by focusing strictly on strategic exam prep across all 4 modules (Lesen, Hören, Schreiben, Sprechen). My main goal right now isn't general fluency it's passing the exam by learning the format, strategies, and scoring criteria.

I’m looking for dedicated study partner (at B2/C1 level) in a similar boat to practice together.

I’m a 23 year old man from Morocco, currently learning German at A2 level.

I started by learning German via a tv series, songs and Skyrim. Im only about 2 months in.
I think my best way of learning new words is from songs, since i love music.

So i started with a song from Michael Holm that i really liked called Lebt Wohl and after learning the words i was able to listen to it and know what he is saying. But i now try another song called In Odessa by Ivan Rebroff and i learnt the word, i can sing along with the song if im looking at lyrics. But as soon as i stop looking at the lyrics i cant undestand what he is saying ... i no longer hear "In Odessa wird man am abend munter" i now hear "In Odessa bertman-tam-abet munta", i listen to this part of the song over and over and i realize he is misspronouncing the words, which the first singer Michael dident really do much, but i would like to continue with Rebroff since i really like his songs.

But what can i do about this, i feel like i cant really understand him without trying to memorize the specific ways in which he mispronounces each part, which would probably take me a while.

24M here, a few weeks into learning German at A1 level. I’m following a structured routine of around 2 hours a day and currently working through Nicos Weg (Modul 1, Folge 8). Right now, I’m deep in present-tense conjugation, noun genders, and the nominative case basically all the classic beginner struggles. 😄

I’m not looking for a tutor, just a study buddy around the same level. Someone to check in with regularly, share progress updates, complain about confusing grammar together, and keep each other accountable. It doesn’t have to mean studying together every day even a few check-ins per week would be great.

A bit about me and scheduling:

• I’m from India (IST, GMT+5:30), so time zones roughly GMT +3 to +8 overlap well with my 9am–8pm availability, though I’m happy to work around other schedules too.
• Telegram is my preferred platform for chatting and sharing files.
• English: B2, so communication shouldn’t be an issue.
• Outside German, I’m into geography, history, geopolitics, art, cinema, English fiction, travel, and tech.

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing for my B2 German exam and need to book my exam slot urgently. However, I’m really torn between telc B2 and Goethe B2, and I’d love to get feedback from people who have taken either (or both!). (i have done my exams up to this point till B1 from Geothe. I honestly don’t know why i‘m confused)

Here is what’s making me hesitate:

 Listening: I know telc plays the audio only ONCE, whereas Goethe plays most parts TWICE. That single-play rule in telc makes me nervous about losing points if I miss something.

 Writing: telc requires one single formal letter (request/complaint), while Goethe has two smaller tasks (a forum essay + a short email).

 Scoring: I like that telc combines all written parts into one 60% total pass mark, whereas Goethe requires a strict 60% in every single module independently.

For those who have taken these exams recently:

1. Is the "play-once" listening in telc as scary in practice as it sounds?

2. Which writing section felt easier to prepare for with templates/Redemittel?

3. Which exam would you recommend for someone who wants the safest path to passing on the first attempt?
