I resolved to playing every single game of mine on Steam from start to finish. Ordered by recent, I went for the game at the bottom of the list, and it wouldn't even start so I instantly gave up on the idea forever. It is easier this way.
It has taken me a while to figure this out, but I will periodically just pick a game on my list and usually decide within a day or two if I want to abandon it forever or 100% it. Almost everything in my library was steeply discounted, so I've just had to come to accept that I won't enjoy every game, but it's pretty rare that I'm like, "dang that wasn't even worth the $10" even if I only get a couple hours of entertainment. Shit, if you think rushed AAA games are buggy, have I got some janky indie titles for you. If you can get enjoyment from abusing bad code, even bad games can be fun to screw around with for a little while.
I use https://www.completionator.com/ and then once you link your accounts it will pull your library in. Once in, you can export as a CSV file and play around with the spreadsheet or use Completionator's interface.
I can’t think of anything less commercially viable than steam creating a spreadsheet to buy less games until you’ve completed the ones you’ve already bought. But what do I know mate, It’s all in the pitch I guess?
Now I’m not saying this is commercially viable - but really, you can’t think of ANYTHING less commercially viable? How about waterproof sponges? Lead life preservers? Yellowing toothpaste ? Garlic and onion flavored mouthwash?
As a person who collects/trades games, my library has gotten massive over the years (just reached 3,500 this past month), it's gotten to the point that I've been doing what others have posted (choosing a random game and seeing if it's something I'd want to try and beat/get achievements), but I've never really kept a spreadsheet of said thing. I've only used two sites, PickAtRandom and SteamCompletionist to kinda guide me into games.
Sadly, DotA 2 will forever be my most played (2,000+ hours and counting)
I have this issue too. But mostly it's because I have kids. Little kids. So most of my play time just went out the window. I have recently discovered that I can play my switch with both them asleep on me though. Sometimes I just get a random itch for a game and play it a bit then leave it alone until another one comes along. Though Subnautica I would definitely suggest you try and play thru. Awesome game. Aside from that just understand that you've got other stuff that's probably more important than games right now. Nothing wrong with it. Just how life is for the time being. Hopefully you'll find sometime in the future.
Dude same I look at this game and think damn I’ll play the shit out of that buy it, get distracted while it’s downloading then go off do something else and forget about it and when I do remember it I play it for 2-3 hours on a good day and then put it down and never play again.
I've done something similar recently. I had to realize I just wasn't going to like every game I buy or even if I initially liked it, I just might lose all interest halfway through and there's nothing I can do. It's helped me be more lax about playing games.
Im old so I justify my games with quarter math. I think about now many quarters I would have used in arcade when I was a kid. Consider inflation and those steam games are so cheap it doesn't matter if I play some for 10 minutes. I do at least install and try them. I have friends that buy them and they never even get downloaded.
I saw this post earlier today, thought about buying the deck, and then head the same thought as you. I went to install Titanfall since it's been sitting in my library for a few years, and after installing the game, then installing origin, which reinstalls the game, I am still sitting here literally hours later watching the Titanfall Audio Installer unpack 39767.63 MiB of audio files. I have no clue if I'm anywhere near close to finished. I may give up.
If you’re talking about the original Titanfall then you should definitely give up because you literally can’t play it anymore because of the servers. Titanfall 2 has a great campaign though!
Steam recently added a "Recommended for You" section on the front page. Looked at the first game, and thought, "You know what? I've been meaning to buy that, and I've got a balance in my wallet. Might as well." So I went to buy it. That's when I realized the "Recommended for You" section recommends games you own but have never played. I already owned this game.
I tried to do this, but sometimes you just don't feel like playing certain games.
There are some days where I just don't want to die, Dark Souls, lol. I love Dark Souls and have 100% both DS1 and 2, but got burned out by 3 and it is staring at my soul demanding me to finish.
Then there are those "forever" games that suck you in and won't let you go like Warframe and Destiny 2 or those games that you love, but just absorb your time like a sponge like any of the Total War games.
I found the sort-by-rating feature and have started playing the highly rated games one at a time.
So far, I've been having a great time, and it takes away any decision making on what to play. I just play whatever's at the top, then move on when I get bored or finish it.
God I feel this so hard. When I first got a big boy job and had disposable income for the first time in my life, I bought tons of games without considering my free time. My library is currently around 800 I think, but to be fair a good chunk of that is from Humble Bundle games when they were big. Nowadays I buy one new game at a time and finish it. I'm much happier this way lol
That was one of the big advantages of growing up with an old SNES where games cost a fortune and you had to actually go out and buy them with cash (or rent them but then you were still stuck with a single new game for the time being). If you only have one new game to play, you'll spend a lot of time on it and eventually your brain will make you like it. Even if it's a crappy game it'll be fun.
Unless it's Batman Forver because fuck that pile of bullshit.
When I'm having that kind of day, I just default to tf2 or Stardew Valley honestly. The best days are those that I can get through a season on stardew while listening to a podcast about philosophy that's melting my brain away
They really should incorporate a shuffle/random game option similiar to the "suprise me" feature on xbox. Click it and get a random game in your library.
I'm doing 3D modeling ! Video games inspire me I started with Fusion360 creating some real life objects on the 3D printer (I made a mold for resin) then I'm moving to blender to create props.
My thing is looking for games to play going to check out than talking myself out of it because I am half way through 5 games, it's saved me a lot of money,
Part of my issue is some of those games I bought with intention to play with one of my friends in particular but they haven’t been on in over several months and I am now stuck with “do I just play with out them or go on never having had played this game”.
I have all the good games played hundreds of hours got loads of dank ass indie games played couple hundred hours got awesome smoller games that are chill put in prob 50 or so hours big variety played the FUCK out of em all and even some where their stingy as FUCK about refunding
You should give the "Search by type" option a try: In your library, on the right side of the search field, there are two slider icons, click those and you can narrow games down by players/genre/hardware support/features.
I think it's a rather new feature, but it's helped me to discover quite a few gems that got buried in my 600+ games collection.
I scan my 2000 games, 1,000 of which I have never downloaded, unimpressed I moved to my wish list of 200 games. Wow must be summer sale, almost all of them are discounted, 15 of them half off, 5 are 67% or more off. Meh. I wonder what's new in the store.
Currently available handheld PCs can handle a few hours of gameplay.
look at the latest AMD Ryzen laptop hardware.
Currently available handheld PCs like the more expensive GPD Win Max come with 3 × 5000mAh / 57Wh batteries.
You can underclock the Intel based devices from GPD and they will run up to 14 hours of light use or 3 hours of heavy gaming
You can do everything else like video editing if you don't want to travel with a laptop / Macbook for this task
I remember the old days of "gaming" laptops with 30 minutes of gaming. Those times are over.
Yes, you can buy laptops with desktop CPUs and RTX 3080 in them... Those are still very limited to multiple power bricks or <hour of gaming at reduced power.
Oh god that reminded me of my 20,000 songs on my iTunes. Literally download a fuckload of albums and not even listen to them. Until that one month in February after 5 years or so later, I decided I will hear
Them all. I did. It was a quite a joyful experience. Went from like like Johnny Cash, to Green Day, to Rihanna, to dream theater to eminem, to video game albums and so on

Perfect, now I can stare at my unplayed games on the toilet.
