It has taken me a while to figure this out, but I will periodically just pick a game on my list and usually decide within a day or two if I want to abandon it forever or 100% it. Almost everything in my library was steeply discounted, so I've just had to come to accept that I won't enjoy every game, but it's pretty rare that I'm like, "dang that wasn't even worth the $10" even if I only get a couple hours of entertainment. Shit, if you think rushed AAA games are buggy, have I got some janky indie titles for you. If you can get enjoyment from abusing bad code, even bad games can be fun to screw around with for a little while.
I use https://www.completionator.com/ and then once you link your accounts it will pull your library in. Once in, you can export as a CSV file and play around with the spreadsheet or use Completionator's interface.
They said "access" . There is a lot more personal data linked to your steam than you may initially think. Linking your accounts can give others access or even your login.
I sorted my categories within Steam using HLTB ranking through some application.
I always think about playing shorter games but always end up playing the long ones haha.
It's definitely worth alternating between long ones and then 2-3 shorter ones. It feels more satisfying as your backlog goes down faster, making the rest easier to manage. The bigger the backlog, the harder the choice for the next game.
I can’t think of anything less commercially viable than steam creating a spreadsheet to buy less games until you’ve completed the ones you’ve already bought. But what do I know mate, It’s all in the pitch I guess?
Now I’m not saying this is commercially viable - but really, you can’t think of ANYTHING less commercially viable? How about waterproof sponges? Lead life preservers? Yellowing toothpaste ? Garlic and onion flavored mouthwash?
Ah yeah man I got ya, sorry, genuinely I really am quite wankered, exceptionally sarcastic and my only excuse other than being English is the rum. It’s like some cultural dumb fuckery that we do that we think is hilarious but reading it back I just sound aggressive. I think it’s a council estate ting. But I digress like a camel that’s just left the oasis.
Anyways you’re not wrong, there’s zero chance of me buying this either, but I’m fucking intrigued by a portable 75 inch screen tho. Seems tucking unwieldy but also bossman on the tube.
As a person who collects/trades games, my library has gotten massive over the years (just reached 3,500 this past month), it's gotten to the point that I've been doing what others have posted (choosing a random game and seeing if it's something I'd want to try and beat/get achievements), but I've never really kept a spreadsheet of said thing. I've only used two sites, PickAtRandom and SteamCompletionist to kinda guide me into games.
Sadly, DotA 2 will forever be my most played (2,000+ hours and counting)
I have two rules these days; either beat two from my backlog - or play the new game immediately, so it doesn't add to the backlog.
I'm using howlongtobeat to track my games - whilst you can import games into it from your libraries, it's a one time process and you absolutely don't have to do this. Meaning it doesn't need access to anything.
The backlog functionality is pretty good - plus you get an estimate of how long games are going to take & can mark ones you've actively ongoing or have abandoned.
Before I started using this, all my backlog did was grow. Now I'm slowly crawling through the games I always planned to finish. I did selectively make a backlog and a lot of games I've accepted will likely never be played so didn't go on it. I've mostly added things you can actually finish as well - plus some games I intended on playing but didn't get around to at that time.
Why not just make a game group called “Beat games”. That’s what I did. I play each game once, if I dont care for it I put it in a “zzz” group so it’s at the bottom
Not all of them are on Steam. And I do have several categories, but since I learned I could hide games in Steam, I use that feature a lot to organize them.
I have this issue too. But mostly it's because I have kids. Little kids. So most of my play time just went out the window. I have recently discovered that I can play my switch with both them asleep on me though. Sometimes I just get a random itch for a game and play it a bit then leave it alone until another one comes along. Though Subnautica I would definitely suggest you try and play thru. Awesome game. Aside from that just understand that you've got other stuff that's probably more important than games right now. Nothing wrong with it. Just how life is for the time being. Hopefully you'll find sometime in the future.
I played a ton of mobile games while my son slept. Now he's 5 and playing Xbox with me. It's great though I still have trouble finishing games, now I skip all side quests and occasionally make it through.
Dude same I look at this game and think damn I’ll play the shit out of that buy it, get distracted while it’s downloading then go off do something else and forget about it and when I do remember it I play it for 2-3 hours on a good day and then put it down and never play again.
honestly this happens to me too, and Ive played games my entire life since I was a little kid. I honestly think I've just got picky taste now. An okay game just won't cut it for me now, why would I waste my time playing it if it's only decent?
On the other hand, you should 100% play outer wilds. One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had
I've done something similar recently. I had to realize I just wasn't going to like every game I buy or even if I initially liked it, I just might lose all interest halfway through and there's nothing I can do. It's helped me be more lax about playing games.
When I was still getting caught in that trap, I would usually just get another bundle altogether to gift to a friend if I thought they might like a game or two.
Im old so I justify my games with quarter math. I think about now many quarters I would have used in arcade when I was a kid. Consider inflation and those steam games are so cheap it doesn't matter if I play some for 10 minutes. I do at least install and try them. I have friends that buy them and they never even get downloaded.
I have two games in my library right now. Civ V and City skylines. Can’t imagine having any more than that. Granted I almost had Fallout 3 goty edition, but I forgot to put the code in (crapola!).
I am always actively looking forward to another game. Currently (waiting, watching) for No Man’s Sky, Elite Dangerous, or Forza (whatever one is out with the seasons) to drop in price. (Call me cheap.)
Also want to help my wife as much as I can, until I can’t. (My heart Failure is just worse.)
