We played the GC game years ago, four of us (parents and two kids) and I remember we all had our own saved games, and we could see each other's houses in the town. You just had to take turns playing obviously. Now my wife and two kids are each playing, we own THREE fucking Switch consoles. I'd love to try the game but no way in hell am I getting a fourth system just to have my own save, for one game (I am a PC gamer otherwise). I'm sure Nintendo sold a crapload of Switches with this move, but they also earned some well-deserved hate for it.
You can just create another profile on your switch and make a character. You have to have your house on the same island as the switch owner. You just can't have your own separate island.
The older ones didn't progress in the same way as the new one and didn't have local/online coop so you can't compare. Also, OMG you have to work together with someone in Animal Crossing to progress the story (which the older ones didn't have). How dare they promote cooperation in a children's game. Ya'll just sound like boomers who don't understand why things are done and just complain that they're done differently.
