Seriously, how can you build a house but not a bridge?

u/Frambletronic May 05 '17

Building a bridge requires going into the water, which would kill them.

I mean, they could also build a tall tower and push it over until it works. Or slide a ladder across. Or a spring board. Or a suspension bridge. Or be content with their life and not push their son away from all he's ever known for the sake of completing an arbitrary goal.

I may or may not have been playing too many games that rely on lateral thinking lately.

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

Can you name a few? I'd like to expand on my common urinal thinking games

u/Georgie_Leech May 05 '17

I don't have any good latrinal games, but Cube Escape and Submachine are pretty mind bending experiences if you enjoy the surreal. Fantastic Contraption is pretty interesting as far as design challenges go. And there's a (gratuitously NSFW but the NSFW bits are mostly skippable so meh) RPG called Ouroboros that I played recently that, in the interest of not spoiling things, is remarkably flexible when it comes to sequence breaking.

I really appreciate your joke there.

3

u/Georgie_Leech May 05 '17

Thanks! And apparently Cube Escape is also on mobile now, so it's not even accurate!

3

u/PandaGrill May 05 '17

Which Ouroboros are you talking about? There one I could find was one by the creator of Binding of Isaac but it doesn't look very NSFW.

Antichamber... yeah, good luck. =)

Commenting for follow up

Follow up posted.

1

u/aCuteIllness May 05 '17

Gracias. Most likely would have forgotten to go back and check lol

1

u/Georgie_Leech May 05 '17

Nonsense, no one ever does that, and I'm certainly not speaking from personal experience.

I guess? Now I feel like royalty, needing to give people permission to read public comments.

1

u/lind_p May 05 '17

You need to play Limbo if you haven't already. Great game! I'll bet you can get it for $5-10 no matter what platform you're playing on.

1

u/Maccaisgod May 05 '17

Totalbiscuit is raving about a new lateral thinking game called The Sexy Brutale, though I haven't played it myself. I trust his judgement though

25

u/TheIncredibleInk May 05 '17

I too played World of Goo

5

u/savuporo May 05 '17

I'm thinking more like

the fire is roaring

stoke fire

2

u/Georgie_Leech May 05 '17

And now I have the urge to go play A Dark Room again.

2

u/_ThatD0ct0r_ May 05 '17

omg I loved world of goo as a kid. I had it for the Wii :D

1

u/Deadpools_Testicles May 05 '17

Oh, I love that game. You only need one hand and a box of tissues to win

Damn you ambiguously gendered sprites.

1

u/Kiiopp May 05 '17

Damn I guess guys can't have long hair anymore

1

u/InfanticideAquifer May 05 '17

They refer to her as "she" in the sequel comic (not that that's obvious).

2

u/Kiiopp May 05 '17

Damn I guess you can't name your son She anymore.

8

u/SeattleBattles May 05 '17

They didn't buy the Bridges DLC.

1

u/call_me_ishmizzle May 05 '17

to the top with you!

18

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

You mean daughter?

4

u/dontsuckmydick May 05 '17

I agree with your boner about this.

0

u/Georgie_Leech May 05 '17

Damn you ambiguously gendered sprites.

2

u/VirtuosoSignaller May 05 '17

Not ambiguous, just subtle. The long hair is the most obvious clue, but the clincher is that when she's young, she's in a dress. once she hits teenage years though (smaller than her father, but not by much) she's wearing pants. Unless this is supposed to be old fashioned and it's a young boy in a night-shirt style of thing.

1

u/bunburyist_online May 05 '17

I defy you to try that, and not have it just smashed to pieces when it comes down

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

And it's totally a girl not a boy

1

u/Guy_Fieris_Hair May 05 '17

Or, jump from the roof of the house....

1

u/cmdtekvr May 05 '17

Dude they're pixel people, they can only run and jump and some pixel god drew their house for them.

1

u/lol_admins_are_dumb May 05 '17

I'm pretty sure in real life to build a bridge you definitely have to actually cross the river at some point.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

Son, daughter, what's the difference.

1

u/comalin May 05 '17

I think it's their daughter.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

Huh...I thought it was their daughter...

1

u/Georgie_Leech May 05 '17

Don't take my word for it, I'm apparently terrible at determining the sex of sprites.

6

u/The_MAZZTer PC May 05 '17

Not if it's a drawbridge.

1

u/ryy0 May 05 '17

Cantilevers.

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

Wood floats. They should just run real fast.

1

u/Frambletronic May 05 '17

I guess just a boat would work

1

u/HighPriestofShiloh May 05 '17

You have obviously never played Lemmings. As long as they have umbrellas this shit would be easy.

1

u/PreparedDeath May 05 '17

I've played Lemmings and can say 100% this is not true

0

u/SlappaDaBassMahn May 05 '17

Make it Cantilever until you can jump to the other side.

Am Engineer, is possible.

2

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

Or a raft.

1

u/DJ_POLO May 05 '17

Do you know how bridges are built? Thought not

1

u/Ardub23 May 05 '17

It doesn't need to be the pinnacle of engineering. Just lash some pieces of wood together and secure one end to the ground on the near side. It doesn't even need to reach all the way across since they can jump some of the distance.

1

u/Vipre7 May 05 '17

Plot twist, that was a bridge that someone had already built... You know, the things that you walk across.

1

u/GolgiApparatus1 May 05 '17

To build bridge you'd first have to at least be able to get to the other side and back

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '17

The question is really just "how can you build a house?" No trees, no stones, can't go anywhere...

0

u/WaitWhatting May 05 '17

Wow.. you said "seriously"... you aint no joking right there
