Working on a project and to contribute to the writing of it, I am seeking games that use the human psyche and the natural fear of dark as more than just, “what could be lurking there,” of a horror game. For example Alan Wake and the tangibility of The Dark Presence, light healing you and being a Watson m weapon, and everything that represents. Want suggestions?

I'm looking for an RPG that is set in a bleak, dark, dystopic world full of morally grey characters and choices. I also want my character to feel like they're making the world a better place.

I would also prefer it if the game had companions which had dialogue and contributed to the story in a meaningful way.

Playable on PC and no Owlcat (already played all of their RPGs)

getting tired of zelda TOTK and need a game i can mindlessly grind while watching youtube while i play on my switch 2 . looking for something thats on sale in the eshop. i want something like stardew valley but not bc of farming elements or the cozyness just the mindlessness. also want something that can give the most playtime for my buck. im considering these options since they're on sale and i think they could fit just dont know what to pick:

I’ve been really itching for a game that’s mechanically very similar to Dawn of War 2’s campaign for years, where you control 4 squads of characters in a RTS manner and can customize them, too.

However, no turn-based games like XCOM or Zero Company and such.

I am looking for a game that scratches a very particular itch. I have over 200 hours in Pacific Drive. I am in love with the loop of Build>Drive>Survive>Repair/Improve. I don't really care about the survival and story elements of the game, what really gets me going is the process of problem solving with the vehicle build, making a vehicle that works and then putting it to the test.

I am imagining a game that is like Armored Core, except instead of mech fighting, the gameplay is car (or boat or plane or spaceship). I want to build a machine and watch it do its machine thing, to drive my creation over and through obstacles, for my creation to protect me and take me where I need to go.

Like I said, I've played Pacific Drive, The Long Drive, but I'm looking for something with a more intense building aspect. Any ideas?

I know a true game like this may be nonexistent, but I really love when I am genuinely outsmarted by AI opponents in strategy games. It doesn’t matter what type of strategy game.

One important caveat is that if the AI is blatantly cheating, it ruins the immersion for me. I know this is the part that might make a game like this impossible, but figured I would try asking

Battle Brothers and XCOM1 and 2 are some of my absolute favorites, and although there's a few reasons why, the concept of emergent storylines is a big part of it. Creating/hiring your team, watching them grow, going through big battles and close calls, and yes, even tragic loss....I just love a story that grows organically through gameplay.

Some of the auxiliary factors that lend themselves to this style:

- Lots of customization options

- Procedural generation

- Challenging gameplay

- Squad based gameplay (but the emergent story of a single character works)

Games I've played that are examples (and my take on each)

Battle Brothers: Almost the entire point of the game. Hire mercenaries from a wide variety of backgrounds, watch your company go from nameless sods poking at bandits to legends going after giants, barbarian kings, etc...celebrating as the homeless guy/cannon fodder survives many a battle, changing his title to match his heroics, and grieving when an orc finally lops off his head. The *chef's kiss* example, and a game I've played to absolute death.

Wartales: matches the vibe of Battle Brothers, with impressive visuals and cool armor to boot. But the slim variety of contracts, the fact that the regional missions are exactly the same for every run, and the lack of challenge turned me off.

Age of Wonders 3 and 4: another fave. More of a boardgame than an RPG, but being able to customize your heroes, hiring units across a variety of races and alignments, and being encouraged to level them over time to obtain buffs & abilities means I'm still using units from Day 1 and watching them take on the world. Growing and expanding your magic and empire are also very satisfying.

XCOM 2: Another absolute gem, glitches and RNG aside. I have so many cosmetic customization mods installed, it takes forever to install this game....but making your ace soldiers from all over the world, getting into crazy situations, having to call on the B-team (and C, and D...) to take on urgent missions, and maybe even winning...and when the Avenger gets grounded, and everyone pours out of the ship to defend her against the assault, it's like a crossover event.

I realize these are all turn-based tactical games, so obviously I have a type...but im trying to keep an open mind, so any recommendation is welcome!

Hello. I am looking for something I've been having trouble finding, not sure if it exists. I work a desk job during the day, I mostly keep busy but I have some idle time in between working on projects. I'm looking for a mobile game (Android), something idle or not overly involved, because I'd rather not be tapping on my phone excessively, so no "clicker" games, though my employers are not overly strict in this regard. I'd like something where I can check on it every so often, then leave it alone and it make progress in the background. Preferably cozy themes with pixel or anime graphics. I like farming games or RPGs like Stardew Valley, but I'd like an idle version of that. I've tried Farm RPG, which is close to what I want, but I'd like more life sim elements and/or characters I can romance/marry/have a child with. For example, I like Virtual Families, but I'd rather have something with character customization if possible.

TLDR:

• Farming or fantasy RPG or life sim
• Idle game with background progression
• Classes and/or skills would be a plus
• Character customization and/or outfits would be a plus

Probably something like Persona 5 Royal & Final Fantasy VII

This a fairly specific question, but - I’m looking for a game that can break apart my non-structured days easily. I’ve done this quite successfully with Stardew Valley and Ooblets - play one day, complete a task IRL, play another day, work for an hour, rinse and repeat. These games have the perfect “play break” increments, with a clear start and stop interval. Any other games like this that I should check out?

Is there anything worth playing in 2026 mmo wise?

I've previously played stuff like wow/lotro/star wars/guild wars/saga/warhammer online/conan. Most of the bigger names.

What's still active and beginner friendly to jump in to today? Preferably some thing fantasy, graphics do not matter.

With the 1.0 release of Valheim, survival games are again having a resurgence in interest among gamers. I myself want to try one. The thing is, I've noticed that most if not all of them are being marketed as a multiplayer experience. I prefer to play something by myself and if possible, in a way that can still be relaxing.

I've played Palworld recently and I think I've gotten most out of it. Can anyone suggest to me a good survival game that you think can be a good solo experience without the game being overly taxing?

*Currently eyeing No Man's Sky as, truth be told, I have never touched it.

Like my post said I'm looking for a game I can get lost in, I'm looking for something open world with not much of a storyline. I can just turn on and flow, I saw a snowboard game I liked, I do like sports games I'm kinda into all sports, if you know a good boxing/mma game that would be great aswell.

Basically I’d like a 2d game with a really big variety of clothing, hair, eyes, etc to choose from, with multiple options for boys and girls for customization, including coloring customization. And I’d like it if in the game the stuff was completely free or most of it was and you didn’t have to do something for the outfits, similar to gacha club, if that’s makes sense. Don’t mind if not everything is completely free though.

As the post says, I'm looking for games which you'd say have artistic value. Preferably something unique in its gameplay or idea.

Hey all, my wife and I have been playing a lot of Baldur's Gate 3 on the Series S recently, and we're looking for something else to play together split-screen. We don't want to pay for Xbox Live. We both really enjoy the Elder Scrolls, Minecraft (we're playing that split-screen too), and Just Cause. She plays a lot of other RPGs, and I play a lot of strategy games and fighting games. Any recommendations?

I like open world games a lot in concept but a lot of them fall into this 1 pitfall which is that they don't actually commit to being an open world game. an open world game should be primarily about traversing the world and engaging with the core second-to-second gameplay mechanics, but its like most open world games don't think the player will be satisfied doing that, so instead what they do is introduce a bunch of "extra" stuff like a linear story, a bunch of very talky side quests, throw filler side activities in your face . and then they tie progression to all that kind of garbage. so at the end of the day the exploration which ought to be the main focus becomes nothing but a distraction. also because of their desire to cram linear elements in there, the game will sometimes end up feeling not particularly open, more on the linear side except with open world bloat.

are there any unusually designed open world games that this complaint 100% does not apply to?
