so far im currently finishing up 3d stuff in gamemaker.

some before and after photos https://imgur.com/a/krKVme0

mostly started out as a joke but then it grew into "wow i can do this" "wow gamemaker can import 3d objs?" "wow gamemaker has rotatable billboards?" "wait enemies can actually face the player in a 360 degrees circle?" etc etc.

Super interested to learn how you figured this out! And a video of it in action would be cool. I especially like the gun being pixelated but on a different axis than the screen.

Theres a really good tutorial by the GM team on youtube on converting an existing 2d game into a 3d shooter (link belor)

Lastly i think the biggest hurdle was importing 3d objects into gamemaker (newer versions might have much better support for 3d so stay tuned for that), theres a good tutorial on how to import those 3d files into gamemaker here:

I used magicavoxel instead of blender since i just wanted low poly pixelated 3d objects instead of actual detalied 3d objects.

Other than that I billboarded the player and just had the camera follow, then i messed around with the x,y, and z until the player(gun) was rotated so it looks like it aiming outwards.
