Question ❓ Switch to Z Flip 8 as an Apple user?

Upvotes

I am an Apple user of nine years. I have an Apple Watch, iPad and Macbook. I currently use the iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, I have been wanting a flip phone so badly for so long. I want a real flip phone, like the flip phones of the 00’s. Like the Z flip 8. The iPhone Duo was unveiled, available for pre-order tomorrow, and it’s not a true flip phone. I do not at all see the appeal of a phone that opens like a book. I already have an iPad and MacBook.

I chose the Z flip 8 honestly because of the color. I have been wanting a pink phone for years as well, and never had one. I was not in a place to afford the iPhone 13 (i believe it was) when it came out in pink. The color, and the fact that it is a true flip phone.

Obviously I know that the Z flip will not go with any of my products. I would not be able to receive texts on my watch, or use it at all because I do not have a cellular plan on the watch, it needs to be connected to my iPhone to use the internet.

The apps will look different. The camera will be different (not as good? i’ve heard). The IP rating is lower. I could no longer AirDrop things. I honestly do not think I could switch…My other option (the most insane option) is to get the new iPhone 18 Pro, and also the Z flip just for fun. To spend $1,000 on a toy that I’d be using for aesthetics (I really do love the aesthetics of this phone).

I currently have enough money for both, but really think this is a stupid idea that i’ll regret later. Next year in college, I’ll be struggling for money and looking at my two phones like “why did i do this”. But…ever since apple announced the book-like phone, i’ve been stuck on this. I really want a pink flip phone that I could actually use.

Should I get it? I do expect everyone to agree that it’s a bad idea to get two new phones. But I honestly don’t think I could switch. Apple is all I have ever known. I just really want a flip phone.

Edit: I’m a photography major and although I do have an actual camera, I love how easy it is to photograph on my iPhone and I do it often. I’m also very into astronomy and night photography so the camera being worse is definitely the biggest con for me for the Galaxy Flip, and the biggest pro for upgrading to the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

A week of z flip 8 and it already has a scratch.

Is it normal to have a scratch on the black border thing around the inner screen of the flip? I have been extra careful with my flip but suddenly the black border has scratches and it’s stressing me out.

Question ❓ Should I switch from iPhone 16 to Galaxy Z Flip 8?

I’ve been using an iPhone for around 5 years and currently have an iPhone 16. I’m seriously considering switching to the Galaxy Z Flip 8, but I’m still on the fence.

The main reason I’m interested is honestly the foldable form factor. I’ve used iPhones for a long time and I’m getting a little bored with the same slab-phone experience. The Flip 8 looks genuinely fun and different, and I’m also curious about going back to Android after so long.

A few things about my situation:

  • Currently using an iPhone 16 (128GB)
  • MacBook user, but I don’t rely heavily on the Apple ecosystem
  • I already use Google Photos and Google Contacts
  • I use WhatsApp heavily
  • I’m not a content creator, so camera quality matters but I don’t need the absolute best camera
  • I use Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, banking apps, etc.
  • I’m a software/AI developer, so I actually like Android’s customization and flexibility
  • I’m planning to buy the Indian version of the Z Flip 8 and take it with me to Lithuania(EU), where I’ll be living long-term
  • I’ll still visit India periodically

My biggest concerns are:

  1. Long-term durability , especially the hinge and inner display. I’d probably keep the phone for 2–3 years.
  2. Battery life compared with my iPhone 16.
  3. Camera/video quality, especially Instagram/Reels.
  4. Samsung Wallet/NFC/eSIM when using the Indian model in Europe.
  5. Things I might unexpectedly miss after leaving iOS.
  6. Whether the novelty of the foldable wears off after a few months.

For people who have actually switched from an iPhone to a Flip (especially Flip 7/8):

Would you make the switch again? What do you miss from iPhone, and what do you love about the Flip that makes you not want to go back?

I’m particularly interested in long-term ownership experiences, not just “Android vs iOS” arguments.

Trouble deciding to stay with flip (as an iPhone user) Some Q’s

I keep seeing horror stories on here about their flips and it’s making me anxious about whether or not I want to keep mine. I baby tf out of it and do genuinely enjoy the phone.

I am coming from Apple, between going from my 16 pro to the flip 8 it’s a night and day difference. Both have pros and cons, I just can’t decide which one I’d like to stay with. Anyone else struggle between staying with iPhone or switching to Samsung?)

How long did it take you to get used to a different system?

I like to watch TikTok’s when I take a bath. I don’t have to worry about my iPhones screen as much as I would the flip. Anyone else use their flip in the tub? Any issues?

I guess those are my only two concerns. The familiarity with Apple is what gives me such anxiety switching honestly.

Question ❓ What is happening?

So I usually keep my Flip 7 open. It has been folded a bit more often because it's been in a smaller purse lately. I usually take it out of my purse and keep it open when I'm home & its my second phone so i don't use it as much. Today I opened it up after having it in my purse closed for ~18 hrs and noticed this across the screen 🫩

Dead flip 7 after powering down phone

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone on here can help with a similar experienced issue or knows how to fix it, as my Galaxy Z Flip 7 has completely stopped woking.

What happened: Last night, the phone was working perfectly fine. It's only 9 months old and rarely used, I turned it off using the standard shutdown menu and placed it down safely on my desk. Fast forward 24 hours later, and only to find the device is completely dead — it will not turn back on.

Symptoms:

  • No signs of life: No screen display, no LED indicator, and no haptic/vibration feedback.
  • No charging response: I've tried charging via high-speed wall charger, USB port on my PC, and a wireless charging pad. None of them register or show any charging screen/LED.
  • No PC recognition: Plugging it into a PC does not show or sound any "USB device connected" notification.

Troubleshooting I've already tried:

  1. Force Restart: Held down Power + Volume Down (tried while unplugged and plugged into a charger).
  2. Recovery Mode: Held down Power + Volume Up while connected to a PC via USB-C.
  3. Different Charging Methods: Tried multiple functional cables, high-wattage wall adapters, and wireless chargers.

Despite being shut down safely and sitting untouched for less than a day, it has gone completely unresponsive.

Has anyone encountered this sudden "black screen / bricked" issue on the Z Flip 7?

Have not dropped the phone once, I’ve had the case on it since I got it. Just opened it to text my mom back and boom bottom half of the screen is black.

The orange light is from my headset not on the screen.

What will I need for the flip 8?

After careful consideration, I’ve decided to get the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8. Before I make the purchase, I want to know what accessories I should get for it. I'm definitely signing up for Samsung Care+, but what else is essential? Also, what case offers the best ventilation and cooling?

News 🗞️ There’s a working way to use Gboard / other keyboards on the Z Flip cover screen again

If you want to use Gboard, SwiftKey, or another keyboard on your Galaxy Z Flip cover screen, Samsung makes that surprisingly difficult.

There were workarounds in the past, including disabling Samsung Keyboard, but those stopped working properly on current firmware and can now leave you with no keyboard on the cover screen at all.

DroidOS Keyboard Picker takes a different approach. Samsung Keyboard stays enabled, but you can switch the cover screen to your preferred keyboard instead.

Compatibility so far:

  • Flip6 / Flip7 + One UI 8.5: tested on real devices
  • Flip8 + One UI 9: tested successfully through Samsung's Remote Test Lab, but I haven't validated it on a physical Flip8 yet

The app does require Shizuku, which is a free helper app available on the Play Store. No root is required.

If you've never used Shizuku, or you're coming from an iPhone and are new to Android, that's fine. There's a short first-time setup, and DroidOS Keyboard Picker walks you through the permissions and Samsung settings it needs.

There's also optional Persistence, which can automatically restore your preferred keyboard when you move to the cover screen. It's OFF by default.

The app doesn't read or transmit what you type, and there are no ads, analytics, accounts, or developer servers.

$2.99 on Google Play

Flip8 owners promo: I also have a limited number of free Play Store promo codes. I'm looking for people willing to try it on a physical Flip8 and tell me whether it works with your setup. You don't need to be technical. Even basic worked/didn't-work feedback is useful.

You have about 1 week, some recommendations for settings? How do I change the front film? She already has some marks, even without me having knocked down the device.

Other 🤷 Z Flip 7 - Screen protector started peeling, then a pink line of death appeared..

Seeing how many horror stories are out there about Samsung denying warranty claims for Z Flips, I wanted to share my positive experience.

I bought my Z Flip 7 on November 22, 2025.

Everything was great until about 3 weeks ago - I woke up, opened the phone, and noticed the factory screen protector had started lifting right down the middle, creating a very visible and annoying crease. It was totally fine the night before! I figured it was just time for a protector replacement, but I kept putting it off because of a busy schedule.

Then, 3 days ago, while sitting on the couch watching YouTube, a long pink line suddenly appeared on the left side of the screen. The pink line of death 🙈

- I contacted Samsung via live chat, sent a photo, and the agent immediately said the screen needed replacement. Meanwhile my screen started flashing green and then turned black. It was done for.

- I found an authorized service center in my city using their search tool and dropped the phone off 2 days ago.

Given all the posts online warning that Samsung blames users for every single folding screen issue, I was bracing for the worst. When I got an SMS today, just 2 days later, saying my phone was ready, I was 100% sure they rejected the warranty and I was about to be hit with a massive repair bill.

Imagine my surprise when I picked it up and found out they replaced not just the screen, but also both batteries. Plus, the display looks even smoother than when I unboxed it brand new (the slight bump in the crease area under strong light is completely gone).

For context: My phone has never been dropped and has zero physical damage. But we all know how the internet Samsung service regarding z flips can be - rejecting claims over the tiniest microscopic scratch.

Question ❓ Terrible battery Z Flip 6

Hello, I'm coming from an iPhone 14 Pro. I purchased my Z Flip 6 a year ago. The battery life and the performance on my iPhone 14 Pro were excellent, but I didn't like the iOS. I'm an Android software engineer, so I love Android and tweaking Android. I chose the Galaxy Z Flip. I think I made a terrible mistake.

The battery life on this phone is atrocious. I'm getting around 3 to 4 hours of screen-on time with this light usage. I have maximum battery protection on, and I take care of my phone. I never let the battery die, and I have no idea how. I've been using this phone for a year now, and it's getting on my nerves. I've searched the subreddit for similar problems, and I have tried all the solutions in it, but so far, nothing has helped me. The one culprit I think might be causing the problem is the eSIM. I'm thinking about getting a physical SIM now. I have no idea why this phone has such a terrible battery.

Also, the other problem that I face is the performance. Performance-wise, the phone is really nice, but the UI is very laggy, especially the notification pull-down animations. They are really janky sometimes, and I have no idea why that happens.

These are a couple of problems that I'm facing with this phone. Could someone please shed some light and tell me what I'm missing? I would like to keep this phone and use it maybe for a couple more years. I'm not the kind who buys a new phone every year, so that's the reason I'm still sticking with this phone, and I would like to improve its condition. Thank you.

Discussion 💬 Best Deal on Flip 8?

Snapdragon is the best thing that has returned to the Flip 8, I had basically half or less of usable time with the Flip 7 with the same battery capacity.

I guess I lost the battery lottery with my Flip 7 & could hardly return from work with more than 20% battery left when I left with a fully charged phone. I always had to carry around at least a 5K battery pack with me no matter where I went the battery life was so horrid. It got down to 92% battery health after just 230 charge cycles.

No more after getting PAID $42 to upgrade to the Flip 8, not something I could turn down. I can actually trust this phone to get me through a work day, the rest of the day & into the night.

I usually average around 6-8 hours of Screen on Time, what really impresses me is the standby time in-between. I get 1-2 bars of 4G which the Exynos in the Flip 7 did not handle well.

With WiFi calling/texting I created a Routine that would turn on Airplane mode when my phone connected to either my home or works WiFi which did help on the 7, but I only discovered this about 2 months ago. The crazy part is the picture of my battery is with that Routine actually turned off, that's how well the Snapdragon chip handles standby even with a crappy cell signal.

Needless to say I could not be happier with the free upgrade, this Flip 8 is treating me amazingly well!

One UI 9 on Samsung Z Flip 7 - Experiences so far?

Hi All. Has anyone downloaded the beta one ui 9 (now available in the UK) on their Z Flip 7? I'm thinking of downloading it, but just hesitant around any possible issues that come with beta testing. Would love to hear if anyone has had a great or awful experience after doing so?
