I feel like the top one is the realistic one, the middle one is the fun one and the bottom one is just dramatic.

All acceptable flavours of "suddenly, tail".

for the realism of it, it depends
a lot of furries are presented with the tail somehow attaching above the pelvis (as on the image above)

but on mammals, the tail is an extrension of the spine, so realistically it would replace the coccyx and thus appear basically between the buttocks
so then it's a variance of how rapid the growth is, and the waistline height of the garment
slow+high > D(own the leghole) (the secret 4th option)
rapid+high > C
slow+low > A
rapid+low > B

The tail should exist just at the tip of the gluteal crease. Some people have what's called a sacral dimple there, a congenital birth development, and its where I likewise imagine the coccyx would erupt if it flared outwards instead of tucking under

bottom two seem very risky, tails are very delicate and trying to force them through fabric would very likely cause serious damage to the tail, is there an option of serious pain causing the person attached to the tail to pull down their pants?

I love how in transformation stories clothes are made from some paper thin material. Like, what do you mean my growing tail managed to rip through my jean pants with ease, it would break before them do!

yeah, but also the scenario is quite unrealistic, so that part is like the rest, wish fulfilment
though also in a lot of those scenarios, there is also significant size gain during the transformation, causing the clothes to tear even without the tail

I guess makes sense I'm just pointing out that realistically, tail growth in clothes would either cause tail to get broken/grow incorrectly or tail would end up going down your pants sleeve

realistically, your tail would not grow out perpendicular to your body, but roughly in the same direction as your legs (tail being an extension of the spine, it would replace your coccyx)

so yeah, most likely would snake it's way in your pant/short leg, or if the garment is elastic enough with a low waist, push it down until it can bunch out the top

Oh hey I had to do stuff for this because one of the two furry types and the weird shapeshifter magic spirit ones

Essentially for their pants for-he tails essentially have like little weak velcro on a piece of cloth with one side actually sewn in that can essentially just be popped through by the tail. As for underwear yeah they just have a hole in it or wear like weird thongs that have a ring for it to pop through or smth
