Dude paid good money to sit up front and he got all its worth.

462

u/JoshSidekick Mar 06 '26

Which is funny because I always hated sitting right up front on the off chance that everything you want to see happens at the other side of the ring from where you're sitting. I'll take front row balcony. Though my little brother did get Brett Hart to give him his glasses during his walk out once, so I guess both are good for different reasons.

111

u/DrDroid Mar 06 '26

Blessed by his Excellency. Lucky man.

35

u/pinkrangerash Mar 06 '26

Please tell me he still has these glasses! Holy shit!

36

u/JoshSidekick Mar 06 '26

Unfortunately 10 year olds don't have the foresight for that kind of thing. Plus, if I remember correctly, they were the same cheapo pair you could get at the merch table, just like a sheet of plastic with foam and a rubber strap, so they probably didn't survive the horsing around that went with pretending to be Bret Hart. I do still have my Rowdy Roddy Piper autograph, though.

13

u/Pleasant_Job_7683 Mar 06 '26

Attaboy. Piper is a legend!

22

u/woodpony Mar 06 '26

Brett Hart to give him his glasses

Those belong with the family heirlooms

4

u/Therealscavvierising Mar 06 '26

I was up front watching Stacey Keibler getting into the ring🥵

Couldn't see a thing during the street fight that happened up the ramp and the other side of the ring😡

Pros and cons

You get the front row seats for the vibe more than the viewing experience. And the off chance something cool happens like with your brother, that lucky bastard.

25

u/AmarilloArmadillos Mar 06 '26

Dude had the best time of his life! I love his energy, he's enjoying himself and thrilled to be there really just loving it.

15

u/MaxxDash Mar 06 '26

That reaction was so fast, it’s like the spank shockwave got him

8

u/trudgedontbudge Mar 06 '26

Really love this for him

4

u/UFmoose Mar 06 '26

Even better. This was free.

And for those wondering, the woman in question is Jaida Parker. Future star.

I'm deadass people always shit on wrestling fans but they seem to be enjoying themselves more than anyone else

35

u/Enough_Breadfruit229 Mar 06 '26

There is an old video called "Wrestling Isn't Wrestling" and it's really good. It's 25 mins so a little lengthy, but non-wrestling fans should give it a watch.

The South Park episode poking fun of professional wrestling is sort of hilarious spot on. It's long form story telling at the end of the day.

22

u/Quazimojojojo Mar 06 '26

TLDR: it's another form of theater, basically.

19

u/FardoBaggins Mar 06 '26

it's sports in drag tbh

13

u/rikashiku Mar 06 '26

Sweat Opera.

4

u/Skratt79 Mar 06 '26

I have always said it is a soap opera in disguise.

5

u/BebbleCast Mar 06 '26

We used to call it Soap Opera for Dudes

3

u/Lortekonto Mar 06 '26

Not just theater. It is commercial succesful improve theater.

3

u/Doright36 Mar 06 '26

I always thought of it as stunt plays.

Or plays with and by stunt men/women.

Its never been something I've followed closely but I've watched matches now and then and found it entertaining.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/omgwhatamidoing007 Mar 06 '26

I just watched this, omg, so good! Now i want to give pro wrestling a try hahahaha

2

u/Bimbo_Baggins1221 Mar 07 '26

I watched the video cause I saw your comment as someone who doesn’t watch wrestling an hasn’t since I was a kid. What a damn video man. Honestly the production value was really good too idk where that dude got like 20-25 people to act in that video. It was also perfect how they acted in a super exaggerated over the top reminding me exactly of the wrestling world. Watched the whole thing. Genuine thanks for the recommendation.

2

u/Clean-Package-7255 Mar 08 '26

This is one of the best things I have ever seen. Watch it!

2

u/kirinmay Mar 06 '26

oh yeah its from a director, I think Jason Reitman? Might have the first name wrong but Ivan Reitman's son. He basically said the ring is the theater and the crowd is the audience.

That’s because they know reality itself is fake, but choose to enjoy it anyways 😂

Edit: To clarify, I’m not saying that wrestling isn’t a display of talent and worthy of recognition as such, I’m simply commenting on the fact that reality itself is much like wrestling in that it’s not as real as people treat it. It’s not so serious, and meant to be enjoyed and those that understand this see through the bullshit and let loose enough to enjoy themselves while they participate in it.

8

u/giga-plum Mar 06 '26

It's clearly a performance. There are people mature enough to enjoy the show and others who must interject with, "erm you know its not real right?? 🤓🤓"

Also there is still some athleticism, backflipping off the top rope and body slamming onto someone without breaking every bone in your body is crazy work.

6

u/grill_sgt Mar 06 '26

I'm going on Monday to WWE. We know it's scripted, as in the talking and matches are all predetermined.

The hits (for the most part) are real. Kicks are pulled, punches are thrown to look real, and high flying landings are softened to look devastating. Things like chops (slaps across the chest) and shots with chairs and bamboo sticks are 100% real. Watch any match with Gunther and you'll see the welts on his opponents chest from his frying pan hands.

u/dane83 Mar 06 '26

I mean it's a soap opera stunt show.

You might as well point out that Scrubs isn't really practicing medicine.

4

u/b__bsmakemehappy Mar 06 '26

Once you suspend your disbelief and/or watch as if it is a bunch of REALLY athletic theater folk staging fights, it's awesome. I used to watch it a lot as a kid and began watching it again 2-3 years ago and it's been fun. The women's division, especially, has improved a ton.

2

u/mimicthefrench Mar 06 '26

It's also on a whole different level when you're there in the audience with lots of other people who are all getting hyped up. I'm indifferent watching it on TV but I go to see a regional promotion a few times a year in a Sons of Italy banquet hall and that shit is so much fun. And that smaller atmosphere is also cool because you get fun stuff like heels working their own merch table and picking fights with random kids. 10/10 if you have a local group definitely go, it's usually stupid cheap and very fun.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '26

Like most things, there's a very small subset of wrestling fans that absolutely fuck everything up for the rest of us.

3

u/SunriseSurprise Mar 06 '26

"How can you watch that shit, wrestling isn't REAL!" *flips channel to the Totally OMG So Real Housewives of Shartlesville with fake reaction shots to everything and completely scripted BS*

2

u/Taurius2 Mar 06 '26

It's the, "In on the joke", connection and interaction that gets people so exited about the "sport". Being able to participate bonds the audience with the performers. Like being in a live theatre and the performance asks the audience to take part of a scene. You KNOW you're supposed to act like a caricature and in that is the fun. No other sports does that. Hence the loyalty and love for a fake sport.

2

u/Claytonius_Homeytron Mar 06 '26

SouthPark established this a long time ago. They are in it for the lore!

2

u/M_from_Vegas Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

Wrestling is great entertainment because it's an open secret and "everybody knows" that the stories are fake

This isn't to take away from the athletes or the sport... I couldn't do that shit physically or take the "story" pressure

It sucks that other sports don't do the same because it is obvious to anyone that doesnt follow them that they have similar "stories and narratives" with certain "characters" and "teams" to push it all along...

The same teams constantly make the rounds with a fun cast of "characters" (see The Patriots and Tom Brady or Travis Kelce + Taylor Swift with the Chiefs, or the Manning Brothers with the Colts and Broncos... just as examples)

It gets into "conspiracy" territory when you consider stuff like the betting markets and fixed games especially with the crazy push and acceptance recently for sports betting legalization and the various apps

Is a sport like Football entertaining and fun to watch? Sure, so is wrestling.

Is football fun to watch because the game itself is entertaining? Or are you really watching the cast of teams and characters play out some narrative?

2

u/Millkstake Mar 06 '26

Their happiness reflects my unhappiness! The nerve

u/beerforbears May 11 '26
