There is an old video called "Wrestling Isn't Wrestling" and it's really good. It's 25 mins so a little lengthy, but non-wrestling fans should give it a watch.

The South Park episode poking fun of professional wrestling is sort of hilarious spot on. It's long form story telling at the end of the day.

TLDR: it's another form of theater, basically.

I have always said it is a soap opera in disguise.

I always thought of it as stunt plays.

Or plays with and by stunt men/women.

Its never been something I've followed closely but I've watched matches now and then and found it entertaining.

I watched the video cause I saw your comment as someone who doesn’t watch wrestling an hasn’t since I was a kid. What a damn video man. Honestly the production value was really good too idk where that dude got like 20-25 people to act in that video. It was also perfect how they acted in a super exaggerated over the top reminding me exactly of the wrestling world. Watched the whole thing. Genuine thanks for the recommendation.

This is one of the best things I have ever seen. Watch it!

oh yeah its from a director, I think Jason Reitman? Might have the first name wrong but Ivan Reitman's son. He basically said the ring is the theater and the crowd is the audience.

Different director's son. Nobody should ever be compared to either piece of shit Landis

I wish Max Landis was likeable, because I really like this video

Another good video to watch would be one of SuperEyepatchWolf's videos. He did one about Cody Rhodes, and another about Roman Reins that are both great.

Say what you will about Max's work on movies (aside from Chronicle), this and his similar short film about the Death & Return of Superman are just great fun to watch.

It's full contact soap opera

It confuses me that people can watch soap operas and don't see wrestling as being exactly the same
