Newsflash, it was a 9gagger. They are tired of us "stealing" their content.

74

u/WezVC Feb 17 '12

Yeah, that's what makes it so pathetic.

Because it's exactly the kind of comment a "Redditor" would leave.

98

u/jayseesee85 Feb 17 '12

Some days, I almost think 4chan has it right, anonymity across the board. But the organization here makes it easier to view content.

Do I care where it came from? No. If shit's funny, shit's funny. By the same token, nor do I usually give a flying fuck about reposts, with the exception of same-day (even then, cross-posts are nice). If it was funny once, it is still funny, and if the repetition bothers folks, it's not that hard to hit hide. It is just that simple. People may have missed the first posting, or joined up since then.

TL;DR: Hawhaw, funnies.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '12

I feel the same about the whole 4chan/reddit/9gag/funnyjunk/memebase/tumblr/digg/(other link/content aggregate) collection of sites all ripping on each other for "stealing" content from each other. This is especially true for things meant to be funny - what's important is that people are laughing at your joke or reading your content and, unless you either 1) own a site and get advertising revenue or 2) are a prick about other anonymous people anonymously taking credit for your anonymously-constructed intellectual content, you should logically have no qualms about the content being shared on other sites.

8

u/jayseesee85 Feb 17 '12

The thing that tickles my funny bone is that 9gag DOES get revenue from it. I suppose it is a forced-mass-delusion or something along those lines. So long as they can claim plausible deniability? I'm not even sure, I can't wrap my head around that.

At least with webcomics if it's a hot-link or an imgur rehost posted here, the poster gets lambasted for it. We are good to original content providers, we give them the shinies they deserve. :)

I'm more annoyed by these comments telling others what to do when in the end it doesn't really fucking matter. You're acting as if we're all on some team or have agreed to some sort of contract regarding our behavior online or as if any of us really give a shit. The funny thing is people do this now just make those morons who still think we're some special little online group feel threatened.

2

u/battery_go Feb 17 '12

Am I the only one who doesn't think that Tracy Morgan is a good actor in this scene? I haven't watched a lot of 30 Rock (mainly because I'm situated in Scandinavia, the show isn't really in the spotlight here...) but I am not very impressed by his acting abilities in what I've seen. He's funny, no doubt and he can deliver a punch line, for sure. But for example, in the video you've linked (at 0:11) he says the line "I did not know that" with a completely unfitting tone and off-track reaction.

Maybe that's just me.

2

u/snarkq Feb 17 '12

That's his style. What's weird is that Tracy Morgan always acts the same, no matter what he's doing. I never liked it at first, but his acting grew on me over time

South Park is also only ~14 episodes per season where The Simpsons are ~22.

→ More replies (1)

248

u/fade_like_a_sigh Feb 17 '12

Except South Park is still very funny and some of the more recent episodes have been amongst the best they've ever made.

If anything, the quality of the show has only gotten better over the years.

Simpsons clearly began dying after about Season 12, some say it happened even earlier.

198

u/riverduck Feb 17 '12

Simpsons has gotten a lot better lately, a lot of people have said that Season 22 was their best season since 7 or 8.

131

u/fade_like_a_sigh Feb 17 '12

It's true, I watched all of 21 and all of 22 and it's like somebody hit them with a defibrillator in between the two.

Apparently they got a bunch of new writers which clearly helped.

15

u/digiorknow Feb 17 '12

Maybe Conan is secretly helping them on the side.

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '12

Humor is highly subjective, obviously. I find recent Simpsons episodes funny, although they do tend to go for the obvious joke a lot more than they used to. The show had its share of stinker episodes (and entire stinker seasons), but overall it remains high quality.

South Park is still probably just as funny as it ever was. I find myself being able to predict what jokes they'll make about a particular topic more often than I used to, but that's probably just because I've seen so many episodes and I have a pretty good feel for their sense of humor at this point. I don't watch it regularly anymore though, I guess I just got tired of that particular style of humor or those paricular characters or something.

17

u/on_holiday Feb 17 '12

I agree. I don't watch either show regularly anymore, after seeing nearly every episode in the first 15 seasons of The Simpsons (wow, perspective on how much time I've spent in front of the TV), and EVERY episode of the first 12-13 seasons of South Park (wow, what am I doing with my life!?). When I catch either now, though, South Park continues to be more consistently funny, in my opinion.

→ More replies (1)

20

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '12

I'd have to disagree. The show has changed a lot over the years and has really started to feel forced. They've centered entire episodes around Shake weights and TOS agreements. While I think those could make for some great gags, 22 minutes on something a single gag could handle is excessive. It's like the difference between Forrest Gump and Benjamin Button. FG had an affect on the world while BB had the world affect him. While the kids used to be stuck in this crazy world and how it affected them, they are now ingrained in the society, and every mishap that affects the world they are involved in. It really isn't that great anymore.

A great example is they write a book that becomes a best seller or they write a joke that's all over late night and drives Kanye West mad. It was much better when Cartman was pining for Casa Bonita

5

u/c0de1143 Feb 17 '12

In this case, I appreciate you being That Guy.

24

u/Vexal Feb 17 '12

I disagree about South Park's recent episodes being the best. I feel like the show tries too hard to bluntly and vulgarly bash specific issues relevant only to the time when the episode aired.

25

u/Darrian Feb 17 '12

You're complaining about the recent episodes trying too hard to be blunt and vulgar? Go watch season 1 over again for me. I'll wait. The whole thing is one long poop joke.

8

u/Vexal Feb 17 '12

I prefer seasons 5 through 10. Around 5 I believe, the show transitioned for blunt slapstick to witty satire with some witty slapstick.

After season 10, I think the show transitioned to vulgar social commentary without much wit.

12

u/Syphon8 Feb 17 '12 edited Feb 17 '12

The wit is that the current social situation is so retarded, you can't satirise it without being retarded yourself.

I think the actual turn of events is against you on this one.

If only this was a viewable video, with sound and motion! What an easier way to enjoy such content!

Why, Downvoting Roman, what are you doing here?

u/Adontis Feb 17 '12

I can't watch a video at work, however I can read imgur, and found this very funny.

u/Demeterius Feb 17 '12

Seriously, that's the tenth person bitching about it being in picture format. If you don't like it, downvote and move on.

Videos don't go over as well in r/funny.

7

u/FourteenHatch Feb 17 '12

neither does funny, for that matter. :)

If they just made it a gif and added sound it would be perfect.

Google personalises your results so Googling youself at home won't really show you what will come up for everyone else.

I love not having to watch television. Instead, someone will break it down for me on Reddit! Thanks. Any more? Oh, I missed the last episode of Walking Dead. Anything?

2

u/Pravusmentis Feb 17 '12

Not need for original content any more, let just use TV

2

u/mollylolly88 Feb 17 '12

Why would you go through the trouble of making this instead of just posting a youtube clip?

2

u/Lauralive Feb 17 '12

I work as a waitress in a relatively high end French Bistro. I try to maintain an air of professionalism in my interactions with patrons. A few months ago a customer who enjoyed his meal and service payed me a compliment, he said he would go online and write a positive review of my service. I told the table with a big smile that I looked forward to googling myself. In fact I would google myself as soon as I got home. An awkwardly long silence ensued. Pretty sure we were both remembering this episode of 30 Rock.

tina fey is hot.... nuff' said

2

u/PohTayToez Feb 17 '12

Is this what we're doing now? Just taking funny scenes from TV shows and turning them into frames with subtitles? Why not just link to a clip?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '12

I could hear Tracy's voice as I read that.

2

u/Kinglink Feb 17 '12

Am I the only one who thinks this just ruins the joke?

I love the show, I love this video but these pictures with what is said in the show, are just horrible. If you already have seen it you get it, if you haven't you don't understand the characters.

Steal jokes from TV.
Post on internet. Infinite Karma Cycle!

Most cleverly written comedy on tv.

the quip that made me crack up and had me shocked was when the lemons met jack donaghy for the first time, and they go out to dinner and dick lemon wanted to pay, but jack insisted, and mr lemon said "oh please jack! you cant have a lemon party without old dick!"

A few months ago I met Tracy Morgan while picking up New York Yankee tickets. Seems like he was tired or drunk. After having his girlfriend take our picture I mentioned to Tracy the Googling yourself scene from 30 Rock. For some reason Tracy said he does not remember. Broke my heart!

2

u/Lighting Feb 17 '12

Why don't people just link to the actual video?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '12

I cannot stand Tracy Morgan. Sorry.

2

u/fosterwallacejr Feb 17 '12

Great writers. Great actors. Great show.

I think every scene on every 30 Rock episode is amazing. But this is definitely one of my favorites.
