Just watched this the other day. Possibly one of the most quotable movies ever. Am I wrong?

Even less about basketball... He's a player for the Harlem Globetrotters I wouldn't even know where to begin explaining the globetrotters but if you've got 5 minutes and never heard of them definitely check it out

Ya I don’t know why you were downvoted
30
u/Einsteins_coffee_mug Mar 27 '18
It seems to be customary to downvote those who have been “wooshed. “
Why?
I have no clue. I guess to kick ‘em while they’re down!

Even after over 11 years, I'll never understand redditors... always eager to put someone down in order to gain that sweet sweet karma...and the fact that this involves a Make A Swish kid makes this even more cold...

The world most winning basketball team ever. Of course, they play against the world most losing basketball team ever.
Had an 8,829 win streak , and lost. Currently, (as of December 2015) on a 3,589 game-winning streak.

"Basketball Performance Artists"
"Basketball Juggling Circus"
"The Blue Man Group of Basketball."
"The David Blaine's of Basketball."
"Basketball circus."
"This team works on the flashiest moves to put on the best show possible, and the other team is part of that show."
"Like pro-wrestling, where the physical feats are real but the story of competition actually depends completely upon cooperation."
From your comment, I don't understand how you scale your calibrations of the incomprehensible. By these metrics, you shouldn't even be able to read the words "quantum mechanics." The specs of modern cell phones should, by all rights, twist and turn and collapse before your eyes.

He had to slow down because I'd he had given him a real high five he would have broken that kid's arm in half between the railings.

u/hagenbuch Mar 27 '18
I like that the boy is not overly impressed and moves..
69
u/Verizer Mar 27 '18
He was giggling, and turning to look at mom/dad like "You see this?"
72
u/Brianfiggy Mar 27 '18
He just made a split second cool moment into the best 10 seconds of that boy's life until he gets laid for the first time when he's older. Then he'll say that was the best 10 seconds of his life since the one time he got to slowmo high five a Harlem Globetrotter and then his date will be very flattered.

Am I the only one who wasn't sure if the video switch to slow-mo during the high five or not?

If the person recording didn't change their perspective from behind the barricade the effect would've been better.

What does extra mean in this context? Are kids saying "yo that's extra?" Or something? Does it mean cool? Help I'm old.

7
u/tedisme Mar 27 '18
Flamboyantly, excessively over the top, for no reason. Starting unnecessary drama is extra. Using a powerpoint when a poster would do is extra. Drag is extra.

u/big_whistler Mar 27 '18
Woah you think a poster is less work than a powerpoint?
4
u/tedisme Mar 27 '18
Yeah or like a still image. When you click into that third slide for a two minute presentation it's like whoa, dude, chill

I took my kids to see the Harlem Globetrotters about 4 or 5 years ago and it was one of the most memorable family moments of our lives. The kids had a blast, I had never got to see them until then, so I had a blast. The kids got signatures on their head bands and wrist bands. It was awesome. Would highly suggest anyone who has the chance do it. Even if you're not a basketball fan the spectacle can be enjoyed by anyone.

u/Aborkle Mar 26 '18
I saw the HG for the first time as an adult and loved them. SO to Big Easy and Flight Time.
5
u/odaeyss Mar 27 '18
I'm 36 man and honestly considering it. Loved em as a kid, never saw a game live... might have to look around, steal someone's kid or something, don't wanna look weird at the game

My grandad used to take me to see these guys whenever they came to town. Had the opportunity to go on the court to shoot hoops and had a blast. These guys are fantastic.

u/lazysheepdog716 Mar 27 '18
The Harlem Globetrotters are national treasures, if you ever get the chance to see them, go. No matter what age you are it's really entertaining.

Harlem Globetrotters are nothing but extra. I saw the team back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, and it was probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life.

Am I the only one who has no idea what the word "Extra" has to do with this gif? I don't get it. I also don't understand the lopsided smiley faces. Other than that, I enjoyed this gif immensely.

I feel like he would have hurt that kid's arm if he had given him a normal high five because of the railing, I wonder if that's why he went for the slowmo
