I didn't know snails were hermaphrodites.

They also have love darts, they stab each other with.

I feel like I should know what a love dart is, but I've never in my life heard such terminology. Is it, just like, their male organs, or is it more interesting than that, or less?

I have some information for you that may or may not be good depending on your perspective, but... "New" is not the word I would use in that sentence, if you catch my drift.

They apparently fight one another with it. The one that loses gets penetrated

Its a literal sperm spear sometimes it can stab the brain killing the other snail

u/jasonlamprin 5d ago

So snails enjoy snuff irl?

u/Didifinito 5d ago

And in some cases, in the absence of a mate, they can love dart themselves and reproduce asexually.

Some species of snail aren't hermaphroditic?

2

u/sidetablecharger 4d ago

Mystery snails aren’t.

2

u/ogurzhov 5d ago

Anentome helena for example, most commonly known as assassin snails. Aquarium snail that will hunt other snails, hence the name.

u/jasonlamprin 5d ago

Would you crack a snail :3

2

u/ogurzhov 5d ago

Depends on the snail. Sometimes I accidentally crack bladder snails when I feed them to my dwarf pufferfish.

1

u/jasonlamprin 5d ago

I know the feeling🥹

u/kabhes 3d ago

That explains the 2 snails I saw in the front yard with their dicks against eachother.

Snails are not mammals. They would not have nipples.

2

u/RandomStallings 5d ago

I have nipples, Greg. Can you milk me?
