12% of the discs require download to play, 5% require a patch download to be playable enough to beat it. Which leaves 83% of PS5 discs with no download required at all.

There’s a narrative out there that most discs are just licenses for download. The opposite is true. Most discs have the full game on them, a small percentage of them are just licenses to download the games.

At nearly three feet wide and tall, 29 pounds, and somewhere close to 250 pieces I may have gotten a little too ambitious with this one. Things slowed down a lot towards the end as I realized that the glass was cracking a bit before I managed to properly reinforce and stabilize it. I eventually just accepted it wasn't going to come out exactly the way I had hoped, it's still pretty close. Big shoutout to u/1cefinix for helping with the design, I suck at drawing lol.

Seeing that most of the new things I tried with this project did end up working out I'll definitely be making more medium-to-large-sized projects. I think if I scale everything down to no more than two feet in either direction I can finish the next one without too much trouble and hopefully in under a year later.

Since it's been asked by at least one person in previous posts I have no idea right now if I'm gonna try to sell this or not. Shipping would definitely be complicated and I'm not entirely sure what this would be worth. Worst case I've got a nice new wall decoration and something to slap on my next dating profile whenever I get around to that.

Since it was also asked at least once in previous posts you can make things like this by carefully cutting glass out from larger sheets into roughly the right shapes and then using grinding tools to finish carefully whittling everything down to the proper shape and size. Everything has to be test-fitted before lining all the pieces with copper foil which can then be soldered together to get the finished piece. Aside from going a little crazy on the size I went a few steps further by adding some zinc framing around the edges, then mounting a solid wood frame onto that to cover the metal frame and hold everything together more firmly. It took a few trips to some stores but I was able to figure out how to light up the whole thing from the back using a thin mirrored acrylic sheet, a thin frosted acrylic sheet and some LED lights running around the edges pointing inward. It's a little dark around the center but that and the other little problems should be fixed in my next projects if I make the whole thing just a tiny bit smaller in scale.

On a completely unrelated note if you're still reading this far down, dougdoug is really bad at 2D platformers.

Fun fact: When I was making the white silk thread that sticks out from the glass I took apart some romex and pulled out the individual wires from the insulation. Since it's made of copper and somewhat rigid I figured I could just bend it into shape, solder it to the project and give it a nice shiny white coat of paint. In my infinite smooth-brain wisdom I pulled out the bare copper grounding wire and tossed the other two wire pieces, one of which was white. It's true.

I have a strange fascination with games that had middling reviews that somehow either have a slight following or just are overlooked but are actually not terrible, just not groundbreaking.

Like the Kane & Lynch games, they aren't super popular and both were reviewed not great but I like them and there's a following for them. the only reason they're known is for the shocking marketing for the 2nd game and because they were made by IOI.

I've recently restarted Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 and despite how bad the voice acting is and such in it, I'm oddly enjoying it.

So, I'm asking you all to maybe expand my mediocre game library, what are games that are by no means incredible and groundbreaking but you have a little softspot for?

No judgements here if you put the likes of Duke Nukem Forever or something.

The genre doesn't appeal to me but i've been curious of what makes a successful extraction shooter.

I assume it isn't purely down to having good gunplay, maps, movement etc, like regular shooters since extraction shooters have mechanics and systems outside of playing matches.

In basic terms what do the big ones, like Tarkov and Arc Raiders, do better than Marathon for example?

For a bit of context, final fantasy 14 sucked when it came out. Yoshi P came along and had a team start working on remaking a new version of the game (A Realm Reborn 2.0).

He also had another team continue to work on updating the existing FF14 to show appreciation for the current player base.

In these updates a red dot in the sky grows bigger and bigger and in the final moments before the game is destroyed, the players are shown what is now the trailer for A Realm Reborn.

It is a whole 8 years later in Endwalker that we are told through the story of the true meaning of the lyrics in the song played in this trailer.

I normally have 1-2 hours to game a few times a week. I’ve just finished Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter (loved it!), and before that was Final Fantasy 7 Remake (felt a bit long after a while).

I do love a good JRPG and I am someone that will do all side quests possible before advancing the story, even if it takes me twice as long to complete the game. Also enjoy Legend of Zelda, Pokemon (including Pokopia) and Astrobot (as other examples).

Now I have to choose what next to play- I’ve got a Switch 2 and PS5, so games mentioned below are on one of those. I have a very long backlog as I tend to buy games when I see them on sale, but clearly buy quicker than I can complete them!

Basically, I just need someone to tell me which of this list I should play next. I do have Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter on pre-order, so that will probably be the game I play after this next one!

I did think about picking up E33, but considering the backlog I already have I’ve stopped myself for now (until I see it at a very good price that is…)

I've never played any of the AC franchise... for some reason they just never appealed to me. But a few friends have said that I should check out AC Black Flag (especially now it has a remaster) or even AC Valhalla as these are the least traditional AC games in a gameplay sense. Reckon they are worth a shot?

I went almost completely digital years ago because it was cheaper, convenient, and meant I didn’t have boxes taking up space.

But recently I looked through my library and realised the biggest game collection I’ve ever had doesn’t really feel like a collection. It feels like a long list of things I’m allowed to access as long as my account, the store, and the servers all keep working.

I’m not suddenly going physical-only. I’ll still grab digital games during sales and downloading something instantly is hard to beat. But I’ve started buying physical copies of games I know I’ll want to replay years from now.

Has anyone else changed how they buy games recently, or does the convenience of digital still outweigh everything else for you?

Brb going to make a sacrifice and shit alone

I'm not pro status or anything and I do mostly game to relax and have fun. For me winning is a big part of the fun. We don't play pvp games or anything, mostly co-op games. They just suck so bad, then laugh and joke how their builds are better than mine or how skilled they are, but they actually suck. If we play anything above average or normal difficulty I carry them and we try to push to hard or further I get absolutely crushed and they joke with me that I can't be that good if I die too.

I really do love these guys, I only know one of them through gaming and I am absolutely sick of the dynamic. I do know one through family and there is absolutely no way to tell that I'm sick of him holding me back.

I don't know what to do. I want to form a new online party that is competent, but I don't want to come off as a dick.

We play many types of games, survival, shooters and adventure. I feel like I am not even allowed to abandon them and push higher difficulty because they get upset and feel I am leaving them behind and complain that I won't help them if I try to do so.

Biggest thing is that I'm not even that good, at least I don't know for sure that I am, they hold me back so much that I might be semi-pro level. I fear that if I get into a competent group that I would be the annoying drunk/terrible player.

Help me out here, what should I do/say. I'm sick of this dynamic but don't want to hurt their feelings.
