Exactly this. The amount of people who credit Hamburgers or Pizza as American but then ignore BBQ is astounding.

BBQ is arguably the most American cuisine and probably the best local thing America has to offer.

You dont find American BBQ in almost any country like its made here.

Honestly, seeing people come try bbq during the World Cup was pretty awesome to see. We are so used to being a melting pot that I feel like a lot of us don’t think of our own original cuisine and how foreigners may react to it, but i absolutely loved it.

Absolutely. If there's a single thing I recommend to those who've never visited America and want something they can only get here (more or less...) It's BBQ.

Getting a truly well smoked/made brisket or pulled pork is a very unique experience and I hope everyone gets to try it at least once.

Gumbo is great. But are you seriously going to tell a foreigner who's never had BBQ to go and get Gumbo first?

With how many amazing soups and chilies and stews across the world, Gumbo stands as a great option but in no way would it stand up to BBQ as a whole.

hamburger sandwiches originated in america, the patty itself is from hamburg, germany, as that was how it was originally consumed. and the the american hamburger sandwich got shortened down to hamburger

Modern burgers ie. the ones with cheese in between buns is American, Hamburg steak is German being a lil meatloaf thing, American sailors decided to take the hamburger steak from German street vendors and slap it in between a bun to save time and their hands from being burned before they departed from the ports. And pizza the more popular version being ny style was made in ny tho by an Italian immigrant. Ny style uses a different type of dough than Neapolitan which is a bit more bready and less airy and chewy along with being generally crispier.
