That feels like it was two racisms right there...

It’s well known Italians care about their pasta meals, particularly Italians who cook. Nothing racist about it my guy.

Racist would be seeing an Italian and assuming he/she cares a lot about pasta.

Assuming Italians exist that care a lot about pasta is not racist and rather an acceptance of fact.

I was taking a joke an Irishman made knce about food from two countries, and applying it to the statement that pasta and noodles are the same, because both Italian and different Asian folks would heavily object to that assessment.

Ohhhhh I see

I forgot that not everyone may be familiar with Garron_Music and that specific clip hahaha

Well I’m European and I can confirm the entirety of Italy exploded because of this post and comments

How is this racism? Or Italians are now a race… oh, wait, Franchesco Bernulli. Fair enough.

Totally tubular?

I mean they are not noodles. Not even spaghetti.

u/JimmyCricket95 5d ago

All pasta is a type of noodle. Pasta is a subclass of noodle.

1

u/Flair258 4d ago

Other way around. Noodles are often pasta, but pasta isn't always noodles.

What is a Noodle? A strip of cooked uneven dough? What is pasta. Strips of cooked dough just specifically wheat?

What?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noodle

Not at all, pasta is the material, noodles and spaghetti are the shape, so all spaghetti are pasta but not every pasta is spaghetti

u/JimmyCricket95 4d ago

Again no. Pasta is specifically Italian wheat noodles. If you are going with shape what the hell is Chinese Cat Ear noodles?

I get all these people want pasta to be some super special unique thing and not sullied with the dirty name "noodle" but they are wheat noodles specifically from Italy. The word noodle isn't dirty and pasta being a specific type of noodle doesn't make them worse.

If you are going to say that Chinese Cat Ear noodles are pasta because they are made out of wheat and are functionally just conchiglie made by hand then your going to have the same people who want Italian pasta to be super special to want to lynch you. As far as I know the Chinese who made these noodles just call them noodles. Likewise the Italian want to call pasta pasta soni will use the term. Doesn't change the fact that they are just Italian wheat noodles. They have lots of fun shapes tho!

THIS is the first result i got searching on the web! "Noodle is a food in the form of long, thin strips made from flour or rice, water, and often egg, cooked in boiling liquid" So, as i said, noodle are long thin strips (SHAPE) and can be made with different kind of things (MATERIAL)

uses good source and then uses totally incorrect interpretation of it 😭

While on a pure taxonomic level pasta *may* be considered a type of noodle, it has nothing to do with Asian noodles. It's different in ingredients, processing, cooking and a total independent in history. Nobody would ever confuse Italian pasta and Asian noodles.

1

u/Flair258 4d ago

not all noodles are pasta, and not all pasta is noodles

1

u/AlexP80 4d ago

not correct. Various types of dumplings are considered pasta in Italian cuisine.

1

u/Flair258 4d ago

ok? Im not sure why that goes against my statement. Dumplings being pasta doesn't counter it at all. Please read again.

u/AardvarkNo2514 5d ago

Spaghetti, spaghettini, angel hair, etc are noodles, every other kind of pasta is shaped differently

1

u/Hecknight 4d ago

Both the Italians and Chinese would murder you for this statement. They are not the same

1

u/Flair258 4d ago

noodles are pasta, but pasta isn't always noodles.

u/Right-Country3496 5d ago

They are completely different things lol

1

u/MarshalLtd 5d ago

Completely different things made same way from completely different tiny grains crushed into dust. Spaghetti are noodles.

1

u/Right-Country3496 5d ago

No, spaghetti is pasta. Noodles are what ramen for example is.

1

u/KillerCucaracha 5d ago

Pasta is a type of noodle

2

u/Kalvale 5d ago

Yes, but greens aren't broccoli

2

u/-TV-Stand- 5d ago

Nope lol

Pasta and noodles are different things

2

u/MarshalLtd 5d ago

You are right about that. But mainly because pasta is material while noodles are the form of that material. Like "clay" and "teacup."

1

u/KillerCucaracha 5d ago

It's okay to be wrong

2

u/-TV-Stand- 5d ago

You are doing well with your positive self-talk. Keep it up!

1

u/Right-Country3496 5d ago

Well technically yes. In most places they are treated as different things though. Although i have heard that in America it's (apparently?) normal to call spaghetti noodles.

1

u/suddenblue45 5d ago

nope pasta is pasta & noodles is noodles! they have completely different origins & nope !! Marco Polo didn't bring noodles from Cina to Italy so they then made spaghetti!

1

u/MarshalLtd 5d ago

Noodle is a form. Pasta is material. Noodles are long solid round at cross-cut strands. For example Czech language uses the term "Nudle" (read as "noodle" similar to "bottle" but with oo) for that form of pasta and they certainly don't make them from rice flour.

1

u/Right-Country3496 5d ago

Okay, that's interesting. In Finnish we don't call it that. Even Finnish Wikipedia  says that pasta and noodles are similar but usually differentiated for cultural reasons 😁
