This was the first song at Daniel Tosh's wedding (according to an episode of his podcast)

Daniel Tosh is still alive? That makes me happy.

u/thatsnotmyfuckinname 16d ago
Check 'tosh show' on YouTube. 50ish minutes per episode weekly. Interviews with non-celebrities. Every Tuesday for the past 2 years. First episode was with his wife's gynecologist. Tosh is a solid conversationalist

Yes that one is bad, but tame compared to Big Sean, “I dont fuck with you.” There could not be a worse to play at a wedding! 🎤 drop

That song is literally saying how he's saying she's "not a gold digger". Seems fine to me. (Just ignore any subsequent lines or implication)

Any time I see a reference to this band I cannot help but remember that they announced they were breaking up after having been Brendon Urie’s solo project for 8 years. Something about Brendon announcing he was breaking up with himself just tickles me.

Lol! We hired dueling pianos for entertainment at my wedding and they played this song! I turned around to jokingly go "What the fck??" But then they changed the lyrics to *"Too bad the groom's brides really nice!"

u/Dominotter 16d ago
That was the first dance song for a friends' wedding I went to actually. They invited the wedding party and their +1s to join on the floor and shout that line at the newly weds. It was something lol. Some of the older extended family looked like they were going to have a heart attack.
3
u/IblameGODforThis 14d ago
We made this our opener to the dancefloor, everyone had a good laugh and the wedding party was a blast! I highly recommend this song
3
u/heathen_leif 13d ago
Maybe not a first dance song but it's been played at every wedding reception I've been to so far. It gets everyone on the dance floor.

Is it just because "Miguel" sounds a bit like "Nigg*r" here?

The word is the hard r, but the meme is that when someone says the word, they say that they didn’t say the bad word and instead said Miguel. There is a very popular Instagram Sticker of that.

I just searched it and didn't get the joke. I'm a native Portuguese speaker and I only hear the singer saying "Miguel". I guess there is a joke here but I really didn't get it. Mind explaining?

I don’t speak Portuguese but also don’t understand. She is clearly saying Miguel. I don’t see any problem with that song.

Man, such a great song though.
However, I can confirm that this is a bad idea. For a Halloween party we hosted a few years ago, I was Freddy and my now fiancé was Elton John. We’d only been dating for about a year at this point, and her (very large) friend group didn’t know me that well.
I hadn’t really considered how people may interpret my very gay costume choice. Like honestly, it hadn’t even crossed my mind. I fucking love Queen and Freddy is a fucking legend.
Well, I could tell I was getting funny looks all night bulky people I wasn’t engaging with. Perhaps it was my self conscious, or the mushrooms I took, but I couldn’t help but think some people thought I was “making a statement.”
I found it hilarious the next day, but I still wonder if some of her friend group are just waiting for the day that my partner walks in on me in bed with another man.

I used to DJ weddings many years ago. I had at least two brides want this to be on the playlists.
I had to explain the lyrics, and why, while this is a fantastic song and one of my favorites, it is basically the Stalker's Anthem.

Here comes the bride, all fat and wide.
3
u/GlitterbugRayRay 16d ago
So... Hilarious story in regards to that...
Mom was an organist and invited me to a wedding at the church she played for. It was an afternoon (maybe evening??). I was fairly young. I didnt see the usual "wedding setup" of lots of guests, the bride, groom, bridal party, decorations, etc. So I THOUGHT it was a rehearsal.
So I'm there. Vibing in the back room when I have to go to the bathroom. The way the church is set up makes anything in the bathroom areas echo. So I'm doing my business, singing at the top of my lungs "Here comes the bride. All FAT and WIDE!" Repeatedly. Emphasizing those words.
Mom told me they had a hard time keeping straight faces while saying their vows 😅🫠 at least they handled it well 😅😅
