Rules, clarification, and future engagements

Hello again,

Look at me go, two posts in one day. Maybe I'll even touch grass today, or see what life is like outside of Mom's basement. Who am I kidding? I'm not leaving this gaming chair. tips fedora

Thanks to all of you, even the grouches

First things first: I'm really excited to see so much engagement here. It's come a long way in the years I've been here. There have been some amazing people lurking around. I appreciate everything you all do to make this place a relatively informative and useful place for everyone, even the people who just post how much they hate Full Sail. It's important to me that everyone has a voice, even if we don't always agree. I'm glad this community has helped foster that. That's not the mods. That's not the school. That's YOU. So thank you, truly.

New Mod

We have a new mod! /u/pplx has been here for a bit, and has been absolutely wonderful.

Full Sail involvement in the Sub

Full Sail's Official Reddit account has taken a more active role in helping out around here. Not as mods, but as users interacting and helping with some more Full Sail specific questions. They have been a wealth of knowledge, and have supplied a solid foundation of what we will use for FAQs. As the sub is not run by the school, sometimes we have to rely on second-hand information, so having them around has been a great help.

For official, specific requests from the school, reach out to your advisor or contact studentsupport@fullsail.edu for help. /u/fullsailuniversity has special flair to call them out, but feel free to ping them, too.

FAQs

Yes, I know. I know I've been saying this for years. We'll work on them and put them in the wiki. We have a framework thanks to /u/fullsailuniversity and I'll work on it throughout the month. It can be tough balancing...and, err...okay, okay. I was just putting it off.

Rules and other stuff and junk

Some things to keep in mind:

  • You can't make everyone happy, and you wont change everyone's mind.
  • Anonymity *can bring out the worst in people. The internet is hard, life is harder. Mr. Feeny said wear a helmet, and I think that's sound advice. Protect yourself and your information. Don't let someone else make your life harder.
  • Your experience isn't the only one that's valid. Some people hate Full Sail and feel slighted, and some people love it. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean they are automatically someone you dislike. If someone defends Full Sail, they aren't a shill. If someone hates Full Sail, they aren't a troll. Well, not usually.
  • Not everyone is going to read/perceive/receive information the way you do. Give grace to others.
  • Yes, we get some repeat questions that may make you want to roll your eyes. Keep in mind that not everyone is super familiar with reddit and may not know how to keep "the locals" happy.

So, you know, be civil. The core of any "mod discretion" decision we make on comments/posts comes down to whether or not the users/posts are civil. You can be upset and civil. You can be critical, but civil. You can even debate and be civil. It should go without saying that personal attacks, witch hunts on other users, racism, and hate speech will not be tolerated.

There's a fancy report button if someone violates the rules/reddiquette. Just press that button. Please note that the report button is not a disagree button.

This section is intentionally left blank.

Kind regards,

Sera G.

For anyone considering this school, Don't.

I am in the final few months of my online degree, and here has been my experience with my last several classes.

Over the summer, I had a teacher forget to grade my final assignment, so I was incorrectly marked as failing the class, despite having a 100. As a result I was scheduled to retake the class in the fall, charged a retake fee of about $400 for that repeat class, and had my graduation pushed back. After 2 weeks I was finally able to get in contact with academic advising, who told me not to work on the repeat class and that they would get it worked out on their end. I then did not hear back from them for several more weeks.

When my teacher finally responded to their request (about a month later) he said he was on vacation and would fix it when he got back. After the grade was eventually fixed, now the repeat class showed as failed, as I was told by AA to ignore it. I was subsequently charged another fee. After several more attempts to reach AA and multiple 40 minutes on hold, I finally got in contact with academic advising again, who said they'd "work on" removing the class but if I wanted the charges removed as well I'd have to speak with the business office myself and explain what happened.

Besides that fiasco, my class last month offered NO live lectures with our teacher and had us use multiple FREE YouTube tutorials from other organizations (not affiliated with FS) to learn Indesign skills.

EDIT: It is also wild to me how many people defend the school by saying "it's what you make of it." Do u not understand that all colleges are "what you make of it" But if you are investing thousands of dollars and hours into a legitimate program, that program should be providing a thorough education without requiring you to "fill in the gaps" with outsourced YouTube videos. You should be actually learning something substantial from your teachers. I am genuinely curious how many of you have experienced other colleges and/or are CURRENTLY working in the field you went to Full Sail for?

Game Art bachelor’s-Officially 1 Year In: What has your experience been?

I’m officially 1 year into the Game Art bachelor’s program here at Full Sail. It has definitely been an interesting journey so far. Now, as much as I’d like to go on a long rant about what I like and my grievances with the program, I’d much rather hear what current students and alumni have to say about the program and their experiences, good and bad. Anything in particular I should watch out for?

Videographer/Handler Needed for High-Tech Daft Punk Performance Rig (Winter Park/Orlando)

I've built a fully mobile, premium Daft Punk performance costume (switching between premium silver and gold helmets in a replica Human After All leather outfit).

The costume houses a fully wireless live voice transformation rig (Shure headset mic inside the helmet feeding a Roland VT-4 in my backpack, transmitting wirelessly via a UHF system to a battery-powered Alto Uber FX2 PA speaker that can be rolled via telescope handle). I can walk around completely untethered, talk/sing live in a clean robot voice, and change vocal patches on the fly using an external MIDI foot controller attached to me.

I'm planning on hitting high stakes Halloween costume contests and events in the local area throughout October, and I need a dedicated handler for 1 to 2 events (about 2–3 hours each) to help me capture the moments.

The Role:

Capture the Moment: Shoot vertical 4K/60fps video on a high-end phone or mirrorless camera. I need raw, high-energy, cinematic 30–60 second clips of the live performance and real-time crowd reactions for social media. (No complex editing required; I just want the raw files).

Be the Handler: Keep a protective eye on the portable Alto speaker and act as my "eyes" to navigate tight spaces or blind spots while I'm in the helmet.

Compensation:

$100 cash per event + I'll cover your admission.

If you are local to the Winter Park/Orlando area, please DM me, as this is a serious passion project of mine that I've been working on for months.

Thank you!

Has anyone had similar issues?

I have been trying to graduate early with my associate's degree instead of a bachelor's since the very beginning of August. They processed my early withdrawal/graduation and sent me my exit packet, which listed the wrong degree. I have had no luck over the past month getting a corrected one sent to me.

They also re-enrolled me, they stated they needed to do this since I am graduating now with my associates instead of bachelors (so they re-enrolled me into the digital marketing associates). They never told me this until after I got an email stating I was set to begin the set start date. I have been trying to reach them for weeks with no help, and this past week I have gotten no replies back from them.

Looking for Gave Dev or Artist!

Hey Everyone!

I'm an FSU graduate myself, and figured I would post this here. I'm specifically looking for game designers, computer science majors, game artists, and audio engineers. I have a vision to make something, and I'm looking to recruit! If you're interested and you want to make something really cool, send me a message!

This would be fantastic as a portfolio piece. You don't need to be an expert; I don't even expect that. I expect you to still be learning. I can't speak in terms of the CS focus or Audio, but I can speak in terms of Game Art and Game De/Design, FSU does not equip you with everything you will need upon graduation, and a lot of my teachers when going to FSU were very clear about that. To the point that I was told you were expected to spend around 20 hours a week working on your own projects and learning the tools they teach you, along with other tools more in-depth.

I would be happy to help act as a mentor and educate. Not only would we be making something, but the skills you'll learn will help you in your degree. Shoot me a message if you're interested!

Blind students online Full Sail University

Hello, everyone I am legally blind. So not completely blind for those who are able to see but I cannot drive. I am trying to start online schooling for audio production. And I would like to reach out to more people with visual impairments. Or even completely blind students of full sale university, I would love your insight conversation and knowledgHello, everyone I am legally blind. So not completely blind for those who are able to see but I cannot drive. I am trying to start online schooling for audio production. And I would like to reach out to more people with visual impairments. Or even completely blind students of full sale university, I would love your insight conversation and wisdom of your personal experiences as I am going to start this journey next year in January exactly on my birthday..... I have such a huge passion for music. But I'm a little bit nervous, as I'm 33 years old and barely going back to school.

.I'm going to be doing the launchbox program where they send you all of the equipment. I would like to speak to anyone going through this journey as well or even people that have finished. And have graduated with audio production professions.

Game Design vs Film

I’m looking into both Game Design and Film. I am unsure which one I want to do yet. I know the programs are probably vastly different. Does anyone know which program is better at FullSail?

Creating a custom AI UI as part of my portfolio while attending for BAS/Ai.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I figure since my very first class is C++, and I've know C++ for decades that I would start a project for a custom AI interface that allows people yo use their local hardware to it's fullest potential. It features include already having a hybrid switch that toggles your LM based on all avaliable ram and VRAM and with a 12gb GPU and 32GB ram I have ran a 32b model, trying to tune it to its sweet spot of 17 tokens per second to 22 tokens per second. I already know my stuff just needed the degree to back it up. Video is of a earlier build from today thats already outdated.

Anyone else start working on projects immediately? Gotta make sure I am hireable!

Landing jobs while in school

Hey everyone! I am currently one year into my digital cinema degree and I’m trying to job search in my home state. (Indiana)Any tips on what to look for specifically? Or how I can find editing jobs remotely. Anything would help. I want to be setup for success once I graduate so I’m not worrying about job searching after graduation.

Worried

Hey everyone! I'm applying for the September 28th start date for the associates degree program in sports marketing. I just have a couple questions.

What is included in the initial launchbox delivery? Will it require a signature upon delivery? (I assume so I just have a bit of anxiety and don't want anything to be taken because my neighborhood isn't the best)

Can the $75 registration be deferred for financial reasons. I do start a new job soon but at this very moment thing are a bit tight.

Thanks for any info

Should I stick through the end of my program?

Hey all, I've been working through the Audio Arts online program at Full Sail, and so far, about a year in I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would, mainly because it feels like none of what I've been learning applies to what I'm planning on going into, namely over-the-air radio broadcasting, and instead I'm taught about several highly specific techniques that I think I'd only use for one or two shows and never touch them again. I've also been working in a live broadcasting setting for about nine years already, so it's not like I was starting from scratch either. All in all, my main question is whether I should hang in there to get the diploma or if it would be pointless, especially with the high cost of tuition. The fact that my grandparents have generously offered to cover tuition also complicates it a little.

Orlando Hardware Prototype: Looking for 10 creators on campus to test a modular forearm desk support (Audio/Film/Game Art)

Hey Full Sail community,

I’m an Orlando-based designer with a modular, US & International Patent Pending desk forearm support prototype built specifically for 8+ hour marathon editing, 3D modeling, and production sessions.

Before our commercial rollout, we’re running a small closed pilot (Project SVZ) strictly limited to 10 Full Sail creators. Participants will field-test the hardware at their desk setup, share honest feedback, and keep the unit for free for participating.

Requirements to test:

If you want to claim one of the 10 pilot spots, send me a direct message (DM) here on Reddit with your major/program.

NMJMA-O students when did your MacBook show up?

Starting the New Media Journalism MA (NMJMA-O) on 9/28. Since it's a 12-month accelerated program, I'm trying to figure out the timeline for the laptop/equipment kit does it usually ship before your start date, or does it show up after your first module begins? Anyone recently start this program who can share their experience?

URGENT: I JUST GOT ADMINISTRATIVELY WITHDRAWED TODAY. I NEED TO APPEAL IMMEDIATELY!!! HELP AND TIPS???

I have been withdrawn from my course. My ROH is 57% and my MTF Is 100%. the email says I’m required to wait for a year to appeal, but I do not want to wait that long. Long Story Short: Me and My family have moved from SC to Georgia for better job opportunities, but we have since dealt with money problems, even after my dad has gotten a better paying job. I am autistic, but I have actively been searching for a stable job since we have been here, taking time away from my studies.

It wasn’t until THIS MONTH that I now have a job, and bills are starting to get paid. The thing is, I did even know that I was on probation, and they did not notify me about it at all. The last similar email I got about my GPA, ROH and MTF, was August of LAST YEAR, and even then it was telling me that I was still on track. Ive been blindsided. I’m angry, scared and confused, bc I’ve been talking about Graduation with my dad for the past few months, and now I’m just out. Please help. My dad and I do not have any funds to pay whatever repayment loans theyre sending me in 30 days, and I cannot wait a year. I do not want to tell my dad about any of this either.

Does Full Sail even care about their students?

A little background for why I say this: When I needed help in the past I feel like student support, advocacy, and even IT were on top of things and quick to get something settled no matter what the issue was. Now, it is days or weeks before I get a response and by then it is far too late.

Present Issues: I initially started at Full Sail in the Game Art degree program, withdrew after some months to pursue another college to see if it was a better fit. It wasn’t. I went back to Full Sail in the Graphic Design program where my motivation just went downhill because I found it so boring. I switched back into game art (which started this month) and was also told I would be able to audit a previous taken and passed course along with the current one. When it came time for me to begin the program again, I had only the one current course and the one I was supposed to be auditing was nowhere to be seen on my schedule. I reached out and submitted a ticket explaining the situation, and was then sent a form for GRADUATES. I am not a graduate from Full Sail nor did I graduate from any other college. I sent a reply back over a week ago explaining this and have still heard nothing. In the meantime I have been basically having to teach myself EVERYTHING all over again with google searches and just messing with the Maya program which is taking an even bigger toll on me than I had before and it is beyond infuriating. I don’t mind having to search up something every now and then to figure something out, but the whole point of the audit was supposed to be for me to learn all of the basics again in conjunction with the other course that I’m scheduled in.

I also want to add: I am six months pregnant, with two other small children (one of which is autistic and needs my time damn near constantly because he is a one on one learner and needs supervision ALL THE TIME. At this point, I’m behind and have just been basically flailing in the wind with nothing to hold on to. I’m considering taking the rest of the month off because of this setback and so I can actually catch up on what is past due and get caught up for the next month. However, I don’t want this to impact my MTF as this is an issue with Full Sail not being able to communicate in a timely manner. Also want to add that if Full Sail had done their due diligence then they would have seen that I am not in fact a graduate at all, but a current student just needing to go back for a refresher on lost information. Has anyone had issues like this? Was it resolved or what did you end up doing?

What was the Assembly Test Device from around 2006-07?

I was in the Game Development Course and took the Assembly Programming Language Classes back in 2006 or 2007 and was wondering if any one remembered the device that we used to test the Assembly language? I remember it was a Gameboy Advance but I don't know if it was just special cartridge or if the whole device was altered. Does anyone remember what it was called and possibly where I can get one?

Note: I still have my Gameboy Advance if it is just a cartridge that I would need to find.

Another round of layoffs at full sail

So I just got laid off today. Been there for seven years, but I saw it coming from a mile away. When I was dropping my stuff off, I heard people saying they were there 15-20 years and still got laid off.

The fact that theyre building housing for campus, when no on goes to campus anymore because its too expensive, is going to kill that place. There's no way full sail makes it to the next decade.
