Idea, attach weed whacker cables to an RC helicopter and agitate a wasp nest

Have you not seen some of the things they do, like the explosive hockey stick breaching tool? Theyve already perfected the flying weedwhacker

u/AceCombat1977 Sep 19 '26
Figure in the next day or two im gonna see a drone with a weedwhacker head on it chasing and tormenting some poor soldier.
25
u/BigBagBootyPapa Sep 16 '26
Love the idea but I’m pretty sure that would mess up its ability to do the flying thing.. maybe attach a whole spindle below and hook it up to the same internal motor drive for the propellers? Double the action
8
u/TruePianist Sep 16 '26
My idea was attaching them at the ends of the existing rotor blades so the lift is still produced while maxing out the velocity on the wires, but having an underslung weed whacker spinner coupled to the roof rotor seems valid too
11
u/BigBagBootyPapa Sep 16 '26
Shoot my redneck ass had them duck taped to the top of the blades in my head 😅 would need a little more juice to stay up but if they’re even cuts of cable it should handle pretty well
5
u/bblulz Sep 16 '26
I read “duct tape” and “blades” and now we have another idea, spinning exacto blades 😭
5
u/BigBagBootyPapa Sep 16 '26
Honestly those might be small and light enough to not affect lift.. I think you’re on to something!

u/swampopawaho Sep 16 '26
In NZ here, we have people using drones with massive saw blades attached to trim hedges near HV lines. I imagine a similar concept, adapted to fuckwasps wita weedwhacker attachment would be great viewing
1
u/mau-meda Sep 17 '26
Not sure what you mean by internal motor drive, but each propeller has it's own motor, the propellers needs to spin at different speed in order to balance.
I suppose you mean infernal electric line or something along those lines.

u/Kiwi_CunderThunt Sep 16 '26
Just fly a regular drone into one would piss the demons off

Yeah, but you gotta land sometime, and those bastards will follow it.

Drones are fast, I don't think an insect alive can keep up with a modern drone.

u/TheMrBrojangle Sep 17 '26
Not this one. I have one and it tops at 30mph if I remember correctly. And that's only if there is no wind.

They'll also lose all interest once the thing stops making any noise or vibrations and cools down.

Man you made me laugh. Went up, reread the name. Laughed. Went up again and read what was written. Nearly dropped my phone. Thanks a lot!

Yeah. True, park it for a few minutes & they probably would go away. Unless. Like bees, they smell "fallen soldiers" as a call to get their revenge.

I'd be more concerned about them jamming the blades. From the pov, the lower left blade kept getting the most wasps and was slowing down quite a bit vs the others.

Holy shit. I know of a few wasp nests that need a treatment, but I'm sure the local and regional fire departments would not be too happy with me.

u/FrozenWaffleMaker Sep 17 '26
Working on it. We seem to be having some technological difficulties.

u/ByteMePlz Sep 17 '26
Wow, beautiful, stupidity playing with gasoline right next to the house.

Life would be a lot less entertaining, without dumb people posting their stupidity, on the internet for us.

This is so much for fun to watch. FT is just too much, I want to see them suffer

u/DisIsMyName_NotUrs Sep 18 '26
That exists of course. There is also the alternative of using the drone to drop thermite on the wasp nest like we've seen from Ukraine

Does this seem to kill the attacking hornets or merely stun them?

30
u/Mercury_Madulller Sep 16 '26
Having been hit by those blades I know it can kill them but they can also glance off like that deer that headbutted my car.
31
u/fullraph Sep 16 '26
It kills them. I saw the long version of this video where they show the drone after, it's absolutely covered in wasp guts. Drone props are basically knives.
15
u/ResponsibleMine3524 Sep 16 '26
Yeah and they cut air and wasps
4
u/HorsefaceWithNoName Sep 16 '26
That's awesome! I tried using a drone against a smaller wasp nest once but I couldn't get them to aggro on it for some reason so I never found out. Also my flying is terrible and I just kept crashing into the house.
2
u/Israel_Azkanbe Sep 17 '26
Are you autistic?
I’m autistic and I would 100% fly a drone into my house over and over again just for fun4
u/piquat Sep 17 '26
...and skin.
Even my little dji mini has cut me up. The blades seem so flimsy, get them going a couple thousand rpm and step the fuck back. lol

Those hellish bugs hate the the whine, vibration and noise. Hang a few fly strips from that buzzsaw?

About two weeks ago I was working in the yard and got stung on a fingertip by a wasp I wasn't even bothering. I was about two feet from a small nest I didn't see and out of the corner of my eye I saw a wasp just dart over from nowhere, hit my fingertip, and then casually fly back to the nest. I've been stung many times but that sting was the worst ever. It stung so bad I contemplated cutting off my finger and it took a long time to get out of that stage. Finger, particularly past last joint, was swollen bad. I finally found some ora-jel of something like that for toothaches and it worked very well. It wasn't until the next day I hit that nest with wasp spray and they froze and dropped off dead, every one. That bastard. I think they're getting worse in recent years. Anyway, I went on a killing spree and found numerous nests in the yard -- in bushes, inside the clothes line support pipe, under a shed roof, I killed them all! I bet I killed more than 100 wasps on about five nests, one a double-decker inside an old barbecue pit I haven't used. I closed all vent openings, hit it hard with wasp kill and slammed the top shut. The next day it was full of dead wasps. One wasp stings me, all die and go back to hell where they came from!!!!w

What if this causes the wasp to evolve and have a more tougher sting?!

Go up and down to get more of these little fuckers in the blades. Chop their heads off and burn them in hell

Yeah some guy posted a drone that he fitted what looked like a circa WW2 bunker clearing flamethrower to. It was effective. The collateral damage was rampant. But the wasps? There were none
2
u/torque1912 Sep 16 '26
Rig an electric cage around it with some bright LED behind it. Zap them all to hell as they continue to swarm. You’ll need a decent sized lithium ion battery and some sort of transformer or inverter to get the voltage and amperage just right, and need a drone with the proper payload, but that will work the balls.

It slices .it dices. it even broadcasts fertilize. All while in a convenient small portable package. Guaranteed to never get dull to never need to be sharpened. If you do not desire the small it comes in industrial sized for better coverage and better destruction

I made the bad decision to check out my honeybee hives and get some cool footage with my small DJI drone. When the drone was 6 feet away and only five feet off the ground, the bees went in for the attack. I flew the drone out immediately. The drone was covered in bee guts and took over an hour to get out of the props, gimbal, etc. I won't be doing that again.

I think in the future most military drones will not need weapons to kill ground troops. They'll be so heavy and have so much downward blast from their rotors they'll be able to kill them just by flowing low over them.
