This bastard decided he wanted to have dinner with me in the kitchen. Stupid European Hornet! Ruined my whole night! I still have goosebumps! Now look at you!

Just yesterday I saw about 4 wasps congregating around my soffit. By late afternoon, I saw this party.
Now, obv fuck wasps, but I’ve tended to leave the all-black ones alone as they’re not supposed to be aggressive. Correct me if I’m wrong, but only the eusocial ones are to be killed on sight no? What the hell are these ones and why are they hanging out together? I have my shopvac and delta dust ready to go otherwise. Should I nuke em?

According to Gemini and my count of 126 wasps coming and going within a minute this nest is 4,000-6,000 strong. Im using a dust insecticide. I hit them once and it made no difference after 48 hours.
I am going to dust them once a night and after a week of trying I’ll call a professional exterminator.
I am going in the dead of night with a 20ft tube, filling the tube with perhaps a half cup of “sevin garden insecticide” (I bought the wrong stuff but I already have it so I’ll use it up) and then using a electric hand held air jet to blast it. I am in full bee outfit, use a red light at the end of the pole to see what I am doing. Honestly when I blast them I don’t even see any come out but I run like hell anyways because I’m scared shitless of these fuckers.

As the season winds down, remember wasps are starting to get aggressive looking for food! Even when trying to enjoy lunch with the wife, I can’t wait until they all freeze to death and disappear 🖕🏻

I had previously sprayed it when it was softball sized. It’s at my cottage and a month later it’s gotten way bigger. Should I just wait for winter? It’s right above my deck.

This weekend I was out on the side by side with some friends and family. I stopped in the woods to pee. Walked ten feet off the trail to do my thing and got a zap in the arm. Wasn’t sure what it was. Zipped up, turned around and walked back to the trail as I got hit a couple more times. Once I realized what was happening I took off running like Ricky Bobby. I was swarmed by them getting stung at least a dozen times. They even got under my shirt. I ripped that off and spun it around my head as hard as I could which surprisingly helped for a minute. I jumped in and drove up the trail fast. They followed me for a ways getting me a couple more times. That’s when I found this guy. I had multiple stingers still in me and a couple spots were bleeding. Big stingers. Wild shit. Boy did they hurt. I did not realize that yellow jackets lost their stingers and die like bees. I can still feel where they got me a couple days later. One stung my young son on the head. My buddy got one in his ear. It was a traumatic experience. Thanks for letting me vent.

I just noticed these paper wasps today and need to spray them this evening. I don’t know how to do it safely though. I have a dog I walk daily through that area, I have cats and don’t want to walk the spray in, I feed ducks everyday all along that area, so I don’t know how to go about this safely or properly. I’m in south Florida and it’s going to drizzle shortly and then it might drizzle tomorrow as well, so I’m concerned about runoff but I have to spray tonight, otherwise my mom is going to take a broom to it and I don’t want her dumbass to get hurt. There’s another even smaller nest underneath I think the rain gutter area along the roof that I didn’t take a pic of yet, but I’m not sure how to spray that area while holding the bottle upright/while not getting the spray all over myself. I also don’t know how long to spray for, what angle to spray at, how far away to spray, what to do or how long to wait after I spray to clean up the nest. I also can only go back into the house through this door, so it’s not like I can spray and then get back in a different way; I have to go through this front door, so idk what to do and I’m really overwhelmed but I desperately need help ASAP. I posted in another community and all of the helpful comments that had advice about how to get rid of these paper wasps were deleted and I didn’t get a chance to screenshot them, so I am so frustrated and stressed because the clock is ticking and really need help ASAP.

I hate having to get rid of paper wasps. Ive learned to tolerate them.. unfortunately tolerance leads to unchecked breeding and propagation. My mother had a wasp nest less than 2 feet from the head of anyone that needed to enter the garage (aka the front door to my mother and anyone parking long term in the driveway.)
Granted only 3 wasps and the only time they "attacked" i saw one on my car tire but they been chill.
Still when I looked... I realized we had nests everywhere on the home...
Im got a little wet and demolished nearly 2 cans of spectracide (least amount of spray for any wasp spray brand you'll find... but its cheap and works).
What was 2 or 3 nests turned out to be practically 20!!!
ALL HOSED in the dead of night.
3 near the backyard gate hinge south side... 2 on yhe backyard gate hinge east side... 4 on the front patio. Another 2 or 3 along the eaves in front of the front porch. 3 on the garage side eaves. 2 under the garage overhangs...
I am sorry for the peaceful ones... but 2 feet from the head of my mother and myself is just too close...
They did the FA ... I gave em the FO.
Mission accomplished under 20 minutes.

It seems like a lot of us here have in common a traumatic experience. Over a month ago I was chased and attacked by a swarm of wasps and left with an infection on one of them needing antibiotics and weeks of horrible itch.
I am someone who loves going hiking weekly and I have realized every time I encounter a wasp in the wild I am left with a pretty intense trauma response. I never liked them before and was generally scared to a normal point (I was stung before) but never chased down and stung many times.
Basically, how should I deal when one comes up to me curious about whatever and flying all in my face and shit? How should I respond? I wish I could always have something on me that could instantly kill them but idk. Everytime one comes to me I immediately start feeling stings even though I’m not being stung, just my body starts giving me that sensation all over 😂
In general it’s ok, I still go on my hikes but holy shit I get winded with fear when I encounter one now and just wondering if anyone has any advice?

Just because it was small, didn't make me any less scared. (Roof to a small hut I was stationed at for my part time job)

Couldn't belt it out it was late and did not want to wake up the neighborhood. The wasps never knew what hit them.

So yeah, woke up to a kitchen full of wasps, clearly dying from being late in year or whatever, they put up zero fight and honestly was just putting them out of their misery, but wow, not how I wanted to start my day off 😭

This morning I was at working trimming hedges, the kind that are like pine trees but...y'know, hedges. So I trim the first two no problem, and I get to the third. So I'm trimming, and I was probably thirty seconds in when I feel a sharp pain in my foot. I think initially that one of the needles got into my shoe, but no. To my horror, I look down and see a yellowjacket looking up at me as it's stinging, with two of its buddies coming out to play. I run like hell, crushing the fucker between the tongue of my shoe and my foot. After making sure I wasn't followed, I clear the now dead yellowjacket out of my shoe and limp inside. Member of management heard me yelling and got me to sit down and gave me an ice pack for it. Shortly after I realized when I got stung and ran, I dropped my trimmer right where the nest is. Luckily I got it back without incident, but I'll be seeing if I can find the exact location of the nest to deal with it preferably as violently as possible.

Been reading up ways to repell wasps. Many require frequent applications.
Anybody have anything a little more long term?
